An excellent Study Bible!
We've used the Ryrie Study Bible since the early 80s. It's excellent for everyone who's interested in learning the Word of God in a more specific way. In the back of this Bible, there are important theological topics regarding the key doctrines of the Bible. Also the annotations, notes and everything else are arranged for easy understanding, and the information is precise. A great number of important subjects can be found and referenced quickly. It's always exciting to open this Bible. It's certainly money well spent. And every student will be spiritually enriched by the wealth of information found in the Ryrie Study Bible.

best quality and best clarity
I would highly recomend this version to anyone who wishes to do any serious study of the Word. Two key things to look for in selecting a good translation are quality and clarity. The NASB-U has plenty of both. Read it, study it, know it, learn it, live it!

Comparable with Life Application and NIV Study Bibles
Fantastic, in-depth, footnotes, cross-references, concordance, with quality comparable to the best-selling Life Application and NIV Study Bibles. Footnotes written by one man, instead of a large team of scholars, resulting in footnotes that relate to each other, from book to book. Recommended by several clerks at our bookstore, Christian Book and Gift, in Lawrence, KS.

Marginal Notes
What a delight to read! Through his poetry, the author makes evident his deep love for family and the impact they have had upon his life. His poetic views of nature provide vivid images of a world in which he obviously continues to find beauty and solace. These poems keep calling me back to read them again and again. An excellent book for those who celebrate life!!

Not to be missed

Michael Smith's Marginal People is a dark, urban noire thriller about the greed and ultimate self-destruction that lurk in the hearts of seemingly normal men and women. A down on his luck aspiring actor, his emotionally scarred artist girlfriend, a single mother barely surviving on a subsistence wage and a criminal kingpin are among the unwary who become involved in manipulative ex-con's kidnaping and ransom plot. The efforts of these marginalized people to survive and free themselves from the plot's ruthless machinations will transform some of them, and cost others their struggling lives. Grim, shadowy, sinister, and entrancing in its literary power of engagement, Marginal People is not to be missed.

Marginal to Mainstream : Alternative Medicine in America
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (08 April, 2004)
Author: Mary Ruggie
Amazon base price: $65.00

Mary Ruggie's Wonderful Book
This book is an important companion piece to the current literature on safety and efficacy of complementary medicine. Mary Ruggie, a sociologist who has written extensively on comparative health systems, tackles the growing movement within hospitals to create centers for 'integrative care,' bringing together conventional and complementary medicine. She examines the research agenda driving these centers, as well as their successes and failures. I highly recommend this book to those interested in the field.

MARGINAL TO MAINSTREAM
A first rate study of a significant trend in American healthcare. Compelling reading.

Psychological and Transcendental Phenomenology and the Confrontation With Heidegger (1927-1931): The Encyclopaedia Britannica Article, the Amsterdam Lectures, "Phenomenology and Anthropology" and Husserl's Marginal Notes in Being and Time and kant (Edmund Husserl Collected Works, Vol 6)
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (December, 1997)
Authors: Edmund Husserl, Thomas Sheehan, and Richard E. Palmer

Phenomenological Confrontations
In the clash with Heidegger, Husserl's phenomenology came into close contact with a devisive bug named "intersubjectivity". After dealing with the differences inherent in their two positions, Husserl decided that the only way to remedy the situation, and therefore phenomenology, was to begin work on the phenomenological analytic of ethics, or how to found the possibility of an ethics (this comes thorugh in the Amsterdam lectures).

To the book's credit, it demonstrates clearly that where Heidegger lived a sum ergo cogito, Husserl rather thought the cogito ergo sum, all the way through to its "liminal" zone, the border. This began the confrontation, and would also soon end it. Thus some of the decisive problems addressed in this Encyclopedia Brittanica book with regards to phenomenology are: history, the subject, time, the other, the possibility of phenomenology with respect to the position on time, etc. Derrida would indeed, as another reviewer has unwittingly pointed out, characterize some of these problems as the break between "the laugh" and the laser-fine gaze of reason. That is, if time is a problem for phenomenology in Husserl's sense, one must laugh at the possibility of phenomenology. If it is rather a problem in Heidegger's sense, then one must phenomenologically laugh (see "An Intro to Husserl's 'Origin of Geometry'")...Well worth the money either way.

a laugh riot
Edmund Husserl was the leading comedic writer of his time... This book is a strong example of his work and sheds new light on the relationship with his moronic sidekick, Martin Heidegger.

I love this Bible
I am a layperson.

The depth of the commentary and the fastidious cross-referencing in the margin has made this Bible the gateway for my growth as a Christian. The maps in the back and other commentary at the beginning of each book create a depth of understanding in my Christian experience that I find too infrequently from the pulpit.

The commentary has great life application elements and historical references as well.

Well Done Dr. Ryrie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An Excellent Study Bible
The Ryrie Study Bible Expanded Edition is truly an excellent study bible. In addition to clear and detailed notes on every page, this bible has some of the best explanatory charts and tables I have found in any study or reference bible.

Each book in this bible includes an extensive introduction with detailed notes on authorship, date, contents, an outline, and a feature I especially enjoy, a graphical timeline for that book. Also included is a sizable concordance, and over a dozen detailed full-color maps depicting the Holy Land from the Old Testament through Christ's ministry and Paul's journeys and up to present day.

If I had to recommend any one study bible, this would be it. I would especially recommend it for anyone in the ministry or actively evangelizing. The wealth of reference material in this bible makes God's Word not only easier to understand, but also easier to explain to others. Also available in King James Version, I give the Ryrie Study Bible Expanded Edition my highest recommendation.

A Hearty Slice of Suburban Americana
Jan C. Snow has done it. She has captured Midwestern humor without sounding hokey, domestic humor without sounding whiney, and American humor without sounding bitter. A bit like Garrison Keillor, Erma Bombeck, and Will Rogers rolled into one. Tackling topics like junk, pocket lint, Easter eggs, and toothpaste, Snow's wry and witty comments are amusing, nostalgic, and even bittersweet. She really shines when talking about holidays, those paradigms of American psychosis and over-exuberance. "The 12 Months of Christmas" is one of the funniest works I've read about the December season. Snow's humor comes from her keen observations of the paradoxical and often bizarre goings-on of everyday suburban life, things that you wouldn't think of off hand, but once mentioned, they become obvious and rather odd. All in all, Snow's collection of essays is well written, engaging, and funny. It is a book that I turn to again and again when I need a good laugh.

This book rules!!!
Ms. Snow has captured the essence of Ohio humor. We are fortunate to live in a time when such brilliance is displayed. Sardonic, sarcastic, cutting edge all rolled into nifty compartments.

Babies and Beasts: The Argument from Marginal Cases
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Txt) (October, 1997)
Author: Daniel A. Dombrowski
Amazon base price: $39.95
Used price: $35.00

Dombrowski discusses the core of a liberationist argument.
Daniel Dombrowski discusses the core issues of a popular argument of animal liberationists. This book covers the most prominent philosopher's arguments for and against the argument from marginal cases. He discusses the main issues without getting into non-animal philosophical discussions--you don't have to be a utilitarian, contractualist, or any other brand to listen to his arguments. Also, while presenting his case for liberation, he avoids the dogmatism that is prevalent amongst proponents and opponents of animal liberation. This is an excellent book and I recommend it to everyone--for everybody is affected if we agree with his thesis. That is, we should stop eating, experimenting, or wearing animals.
