Recommended to me by IAF pilots
As an instructor pilot in the F-15E, I was honored to be selected to teach the first four IAF crewmemebers how to fly the "E-model." Their skill and dedication was impressive. During the training, I asked if there was a book (or two) I should read about the IAF. The unanimous answer was, "Yonay's "No Margin for Error."" I couldn't put it down!

Incredible (and true) Story of Israel's Air Force
I read this after a friend of mine, who had met the author, handed me a copy.

I have to admit, I nearly turned my nose up at this book when I read the cover description that it was "the true story of 'Top Gun.' " I expected a flashy, poorly researched and superficial collection of stories that wouldn't pique my interest.

I should have trusted my friend's opinion more -- the book and the stories it contains are absolutely fascinating, even for someone (like me) with little interest in (or knowledge of) Israel. Though Yonay doesn't use oral histories as source material, the stories have the captivating personal aspects that make Stephen Ambrose's WW2 histories so compelling. They are funny and gut-wrenching, impressive and terrifying, all at once.

Quite honestly, this is one of the best non-fiction aviation narratives that I have ever read. I would highly-recommend it to anyone.

The finest book I have ever read about the Israel Air Force.
This is the first book that I have seen which describes the air war during the Six Day War, The War of Attrition and the 73 War. The personal stories make this book a must read. I met Iftach Spector before reading the book. How I wish I had read it first before meeting him. I have so many questions I would like to ask him. As a combat ready Air Force F-16 pilot I found this book extemely informative.

Excellent Resource for ALL Salespeople
Even if you don't sell retail, this book gives common sense ideas any salesperson can use right now to increase profits. The quickest way I know to increase and maintain profits is to AVOID cutting prices, and this book gives some great ideas on how to do just that. If you sell and have any control over your prices, you should have this book. If you ARE in retail, you MUST have this book.

Store's Gross Margin Up 3 to 4 Percentage Points
I first read this book, then I bought copies for my managers and salespeople. We were not as gross margin conscious as we should have been. I highly recommend this book to any retailer.

My company's profits are up
I can't tell you how much the ideas I got from this book have enhanced my gross margins. My sales team really buys into the new ideas I have learned from reading this book.

Ready, steady, quality
Cambridge is the oldest publisher in the Bible and their experience shows with this marvelous modern printing of the KJV. I need not remunerate all the features. Suffice it to mention the highlights: stunning binding, thick, sturdy paper, wide-margins, clear font, and no actual cross-references in the text itself. These are found in the margins. The whole layout is close to perfection. The wide-margin is quite a large Bible, and so buyers will have to decide if they want to carry a largish book around with them all the time. There are also Concords without the margins, but those I have seen do not have the same quality paper as this edition. Only one Bible in heaven and earth compares to this, and that is the Cambridge Presentation Edition.

Absolutly nothing like it!
I have been a Christian for 13 years and I have had a few Scofields, Thompson Chain and even, the Cambridge competitor, the [$$] Oxford Wide Margin. All were KJV Bibles, of course, and all where nice Bibles. But, I have always admired the quality, workmanship and finish of a Cambridge WM. There is nothing like this Bible. From the lined note pages to the quality of the Calf Skin leather all the way down to the "Bible Paper."
My first Scofield lasted nine months. My second lasted through my first two semesters of Bible College. My Thompson Chain has been faithul and lasted me for 9 years! And the Oxford...I couldn't ever get used to it. But, now I must say I am ready to "settle down" with a Bible that could easily last until my new born child graduates high school and starts college!
I look forward to reading and studying God's preserved Word in this unique package!

Margins? Paper?
O.K. First of all, I don't actually have this Bible. Could someone give a review that answers two questions? One, exactly how large are the margins; and two, is the paper that type of flimsy, almost see-thru stuff, or is it "real" paper?

Empowering and Respectful
This book offers the reader a factual, non-biased compilation of available complementary therapies. As a cancer survivor, she teaches us that when facing a cancer diagnosis and standard allopathic therapies, we can, no we must, be an active participant in assessing all the possible treatment paths as we make our decisions and choices in our path to healing. Not only do we hope to understand what is happening to us, we must take an active role in regaining our good health.

Ms. O'Toole teaches us that we must trust our selves and our abilities in this process. For when we do, we make the best possible decisions for our lives. This book is a wonderful guide for those facing treatment as well as their loved ones.

a gift
This book is such a gift, written with authority, clarity, and empathy. For anyone who wonders what to expect from different complementary therapies, this book is invaluable. For those facing decisions about maintaining health while fighting cancer, this book is a blessing. The author transforms her struggle to stay alive and maintain well-being into a resource for the rest of us.

Solid, well researched, and from the heart--indispensible!
As a bodywork practitioner presented with the dilemma of offering help and services to clients confronted with the trial of their lives, I had high expectations of this book. I wasn't disappointed. This book is solid, well researched, and substantive. I will recommend it without reservation to my clients. Not just clients facing cancer, but any client troubled by a chronic or acute physical condition or discomfort who seeks resources to improve their health and well-being. This takes effort, education, information, and resources. What this book offers is a structure and framework to evaluate "what's out there", and help a person to decide "Is this for me?" "Is this for me now, or later?"

What I especially appreciate is the author's emphasis on trusting your own intuition---and backing that up with succinct, well-organized information to facilitate rational decision-making in support of one's intuition. This book isn't just another nice book about a cancer experience; it's a well thought out resource to think through and make decisions on developing your complementary health care. Thank you, Carole O'Toole!

Good and Practical Suggestions for Dealing With Life
Swenson's book is an excellent and timely read for the person who wants to learn how to develop more time and space for a fruitful life.

The book's layout is orderly and the text is easily understood - thankfully, Swenson does not attempt to impress the reader with technical jargon and knows how to address his audience. Swenson organizes the book into three main parts: 1) The problem (pain), 2) the prescription (margin), and 3) the prognosis (health).

As mentioned earlier, Swenson describes the problem of pain and the prescription of margin in layman terms. Swenson describes how we can either place undue pressure on ourselves or allow society to dictate the unrealistic expectations we are expected to live up to today. Especially helpful were the prescriptions Swenson prescribes for dealing with today's insane rat race. Particulary compelling were the suggestions for balance, rest, simplicity, and healthy relationships.

All in all, an excellent read. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because I believe (in my humble opinion) that the author spent a little too much time describing the problem - he did not get into a comprehensive definition and description of the term "margin" until 1/3 of the way into the book. Despite this minor complaint, I highly recommend this book. The Christian will be encouraged to just rest in the love and acceptance of Jesus while the unbeliever will be encouraged to consider life is more than just career success and busy activities.

A Timely Antidote to What Ails Modern Man
As its subtitle suggests, MARGIN is a holistic treatment of the modern day malady called overload. Written by Richard A. Swenson, M.D., a former practicing physician, the book is the result of more than a decade of professional research and personal experience.

Following several years as an associate professor at a state medical school, Swenson now writes and speaks full-time as an expert on the intersection of faith, health, culture and the future. And his insightful analysis here does not disappoint, as he succeeds brilliantly at bridging the gap between the sacred and the secular, the timeless and the temporal.

Defining margin as the space that exists between people and their personal limits, Swenson suggests it is has largely been squeezed out of our lives and become yet another casualty of the harried and hurried times in which we live. Yet margin must be restored if we are to experience health through contentment, simplicity, balance and rest, he says.

From the opening chapter titled "Marginless Living," Swenson describes the decimation left in the wake of living with chronic overload. From our overstressed teachers and overworked farmers to overburdened pastors and overwhelmed parents, society at large has succumbed to the pressures of progress.

And, according to Swenson, the type of overload we are experiencing is a relatively new phenomenon, exponential in growth and unprecedented in scope. Fueled by the power of technology, living today has accelerated to warp speed, with many people yearning for a rest stop, if not an exit ramp, off the frenetic freeway of life.

"Progress's biggest failure has been its inability to nurture and protect right relationships," writes Swenson. And he suggests that the remedy is a return to a safer and saner lifestyle, one where people are thought of as priorities instead of problems, time is considered an ally rather than an enemy, and material wealth is less about making money than it is about living meaningfully.

While the price of progress can exact a painful toll, through the establishment of healthy limits, such as learning how to say no to over-commitment, Swenson advocates that a renewed emphasis on voluntary simplicity not only enhances one's standard of living, it is fast becoming a necessity for survival.

Swenson's frequent use of statistics, figures and graphs --- especially as he diagnoses the symptom of pain caused by overload --- can itself be somewhat burdensome at times, but it is well worth wading through the material to get to the marrow of his message: the prescription of margin for a prognosis of health.

As proven and prescribed by Dr. Swenson, MARGIN acts as a timely antidote to what ails modern man. And with sales well into six figures since its initial release in 1992, the book has earned its well-deserved place among contemporary Christian classics. Explaining complex change in context is Swenson's calling card, and his cure for it is a cause for celebration. Consider it a house call from heaven with hope and help for the soul.

This book teaches you how to live life like Jesus lived.
Margin was one of the best books I have ever read. I have read it three times so far. It teaches you how to live life in a manner that seems to me the way Christ meant for us to live. Most of us are living life the way "the world" says we should. The book, Margin, makes you step back and review your life and reevaluate your priorities. I think it can help people reduce their stress and get much more enjoyment out of life. It teaches a simple life style, and wanting less, not more. If you read these reviews, Dr. Swenson, I just want to say thank you. I am buying two more copies for stressed out friends.

great bible for general use
This is a great bible for general use. It has plenty of space for taking notes. I have started writing down questions that arise as I read to be answered later. The size is not to big, unlike most wide margin bibles that are huge. I like the red letter for Christ's spoken words. If there was a NASB version it would be the perfect bible.

Part of a long time tradition: The Cambridge Bible
After my old NIV Study Bible fell apart, I wanted to look for a new Bible, one which would last more than 5 years. I found this one, but was turned off by it's very high price - as I am sure you are now. What justifies the high price?

First, we'll start inside, with the pages themselves. The text, though smallish, is very readable, and made more so by the extra wide margins. The font is a good size, and the footnotes and cross reference notes do not hinder reading in any way. The cross reference system is good, though not exhaustive. There is also a small and handy concordance. But, like the cross reference system, the concordance is not exhaustive.

Second, the quality of the binding is superb. The pages are just the right opacity so that you do not see the words on the other side. Also, the ribbons are generous, and of a good material - and there are two ribbons - one for the Old Testament, one for the New Testament. The pages are double stitched for longevity.

And, lastly, the leather used in this Bible is without equal. It has a wonderful feel, grain, and smell. It has far better leather than any other leather bound Bible I have ever seen.

The bottom line is: this is the best Bible that money can buy that I know of. If you have the money, I highly reccomend this Cambridge Bible - it will last a couple of lifetimes.

Great Bible for note-takers.
Finally! I have been looking for some time for a wide-margined Bible which I can use to take notes during sermons and study times. I have several study Bibles that have and will continue to serve me well, but I am using this one to mark up and notate. The text is large and is single column, which I find helpful when making margin notes. The words of Christ are in red, which I also like. There are footnotes, but no cross references. I will continue to use my Thompson Chain Reference Bible for that. I highly recommend this very straightforward Bible.

Excellent overall quality
This is a 'best buy' in bibles. Excellent size font and quality paper. Wide margin and nice white imported paper.. If you want a study bible--this isn't it.Minimal notes. The paper makes the print seem wonderfully sharp. I plan to purchase the calfskin version. This is a readers version without helps. Other resources will help here though. I might even buy another to write notes in since it is so reasonably priced.

Great Cover---One of it's kind!
The In-Touch Ministries edition of the NASBU is a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind Bible, with buttery-soft calfskin leather in your choice of navy blue, burgundy, or black. It even excels the Cambridge editions. It is smyth-sewn, and has quality paper.
Unfortunately, all the Bible has is text and concordance with coloured maps in the back, and wide margins. No helps whatsoever.
I would even hesitate before I marked up the Bible, that's how beautiful it is. However, if all you want is a pretty cover, buy it. Otherwise, forget it. Other NASBU reference or study Bibles in genuine or top-grain leather are available at lesser cost. So, save yourself a few bucks and get yourself something that has more information.

Top Grain Cowhide NASB
I have been a devout bible student and bible collector for 29 years. My first bible (which I still have) was a Scofield KJV. Since then, I have owned many different bibles that have had various degrees of helps and notes. In choosing a bible, my criteria were as follows:

1.The bible had to be of superior quality and workmanship
2.Wide margins for note taking
3.Limited or no notes
4.Literal word-for-word translation

This "In Touch" addition meets and exceeds my requirements! I purchased the deluxe leather addition.

Many people are have stated that the NASB is the most literal translation available. That is not the case. I believe it is the most literal translation that is widely available. Green's Literal Translation is by far the most literal version on the market today. The NASB most literal passages are not in the body of the text but in the margins! Some have stated that not having these translation notes is by far the greatest weakness of this bible. I would somewhat agree. But this weakness does have an upside-many times I found the alternate readings a distraction because they can be controversial (i.e. the last chapter of Mark and the story of the women caught in adultery), and if I wanted to, I could simply refer to another bible or computer software to capture these notes.

I would imagine that the absence of cross-references would be a showstopper for young Christians. Actually, I believe that the lack of these references will force the reader (young or old) to search the Scriptures. Of course, the reader should solicit the guidance of the Holy Spirit, but this activity (searching the Scriptures) will reinforce the learning experience.

I highly recommend this edition of the NASB.

The Book Your Mullah Doesn't Want You to Read!
If you thought that Islam was just a bunch of fellows in white thobes and headdresses running anround oppressing people, this fun and educational little book will help expand your horizons! Another truely excellent title put out by City Lights Books, author Peter Lamborn Wilson covers some of the more...colorful patches in the tapestry of Islam. This book deals with Muslim Thinkers who for one reason or 'tother, are generally considered heretics by many of the larger sects of Islam. We are privalleged to meet Ibn Arabi and the Noble Drew Ali, and delve into subjects such as Satanism in Islam, sexuality and authority in Sufism, and more. The volume includes poems and enjoyable illustrations, photos, and calligraphy throughout.

As a note to anyone with a specific interest in African-American religious figures in U.S. history, the essay "Lost/Found Moorish Time Lines: In the Wilderness of North America", Wilson offers what may be the best essay to date in ANY publication, on the Noble Drew Ali and the Moorish Science Temple of America. Included is information about the relationship between the Moorish Science Temple, and Elijah Muhammed, who founded the Nation of Islam. Lots of NEW information in this essay alone, as with the others in this book...did you know about the connection between Islam, Masonry, Shriners, and Moorish Science? Wilson includes footnotes and references with his work, and there is a complete bibliography at the end of this volume.

The tone of this book is scholarly, it is by no means a sordid "tell all" work. You won't find proselytizing or propaganda in this volume. If you're tired of the same old repetitive drivel from the same old droning finger-wagging sources, give this book a read. I suspect you will appreciate the time you spend while journeying through its pages.

Puts the adventure back in religion...
Contrary to much popular opinion of Islam as a monolithic giant, in its midst are the 'heretics' that put the fun back in religion. Considering that such figures as Jesus and Muhammad were considered 'heretics' in their day the title is actually a compliment.

I picked this book up in a second hand bookstore on a whim. I have revisited it several times and continue to do so often. At first it appeared dark, mysterious, foreign, pointless. But as I continued to explore it became more and more obvious that the light of the Divine makes its way through these pages and this Divine light I swear is grinning like the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland.

Islam is diverse, vast, deep and this book explores some of those areas in the remote regions of both the physical and the spiritual world with style and wit and just a bit of a knowing smile. Well worth the adventure.

not enough books on the subject, this is a great one though.
Peter L. Wilson is amazing. this book touches on a subject that few have taken up, a seemingly homogenous religion (Islam) and its many "heretical" traditions. also important information on "fringe" movements w/in the U.S., the whole Noble Drew Ali. this book made me happy to be alive.

finally, a Bible I can really use
I just received this Bible yesterday and it is like a breath of fresh air. Finally I have room to write my study notes in my Bible. There is a decent amount of space on the margin on each page to write your study notes right next to the Scripture passage. And there are even blank pages at the end of the Bible specifically designed for the purpose for writing additional notes.

Even though I only just received the Bible, I have already put it to use and it is already one of my favorite Bibles I have ever owned because it is so useful and practical.

One thing that may be a detraction for people is the absence of study notes or commentary in the Bible. For me, though, this is actually a bonus. I do not dig built-in study notes or commentary in the Bible. I also appreciate the single-column format of the Bible-- it makes it more readable for me.

What could have made this a better study Bible for me are several things. First, I actually would have liked slightly wider margins on the side, as well as larger margins on the top and bottom of each page for additional space to take notes. I also would have liked even larger print. I also do not dig Christ's words in red. I prefer black lettering throughout the Bible. I also wouldn't have minded a larger concordance in the back either. But I suppose you can't have everything.

Again, if you like to take notes in your Bible and find that you never have any room, this Bible is for you. I really like this Bible a lot, and I actually wish I could stock up several more copies of this Bible before it goes out of print.

Finally, a Bible I can use!
I've used many different Bibles over the years and this is the only one that has ever really satisfied me. Being a cronic note taker I felt stifled by most study bibles that wanted to tell you every thing but never let you interact with the text; in other words, when a great application of scripture came to me, I was forced to dig for a notebook, only to lose it days later. One note, however, the pages are a little thin, so if you're heavy handed like me there will be imprints of what you wrote in the margin several pages later, but no worse than most other books. Bible includes the venerable and popular NIV translation.

The Bible I've been looking for
I've used this bible for a few days now and I find it very helpful and easy to use. The font size is larger than I thought it would be, and makes for very easy reading. There is plenty of room on each side margin for notes, and also many blank pages at the back for more detailed and complete notes or observations. The size of this bible is very nice for me as well, as it's somewhat smaller than most wide margin bibles, which I find easier to carry in my everyday reading and studying. Also, the binding, although somewhat stiff now (I can tell it's brand new), is well done and should soften up nicely with age. Finally, I like the fact that there are no commentaries or notes at the bottom of the page. I like to learn about the bible on my own, and I find this one very helpful because I don't have someone else's notes taking up space.

Now - the negatives:

1) The words of Christ are in red-letter format. This doesn't bother me at all, but I know it does some people, so if this is important to you, you might want to look elsewhere.
2) There are very few references to other verses, and little in the way of footnotes. If you are looking for a comprehensive study bible, this isn't the one for you.
3) There are no wide margins on the top and bottom of the text - only the outside margin. I don't mind this, but if you need the extra room, this one might not work for you. (Although the text is single-column, so you don't have to worry about fitting as much on a page as you would if you were writing notes for two columns.)

All in all, I enjoy this bible very much. The font size, margin space, and physical size work very well for me, and although it's not the most comprehensive bible out there in terms of notes and references, if you're like me and just want to discover the text of the bible for yourself, but need a little extra margin room for notes, you should find this bible very helpful and useful!
