Great tricks for those willing to practice
This book is a wonderful resource for those wanting to improve their sleight of hand, and contains over 165 card tricks and stunts. While the book starts with the basics, understand that the basics can be very challenging to master! Many of the tricks will require serious practice to make them polished enough to perform. The text of this book can be somewhat dense, and require a few readings to get the gist of what is being said. And while there are some difficult tricks to perform, there are a number of things the absolute beginner can pick up rather quickly.

A great book, unfortunately quite dated.
This is a great book. A lot of the things in this book have inspired a lot of ideas and variations. However, this book suffers from a major flaw: many of the techniques in this book are out of date, and many of the tricks would not be as powerful for today's audiences.

This is the best book of the century!!!!?????
This is an excellent book, which I waited for for two and a half weeks, it came to me and I was excited, it turned out to be quite a wonderful suprise. The appearing card trick is quite suprising, but difficult to comprehend what he is getting at. no dissapearing card tricks either, other than that, he has some excellent one handed shuffles and other great tricks. thank you

Photo Fakery: The History and Techniques of Photographic Deception and Manipulation
Published in Paperback by DIANE Publishing Co (April, 1999)
Author: Dino A. Brugioni
Amazon base price: $30.00
Average review score:

don't believe everything you see
This book is fairly comprehensive (he even discusses morphing in film and video, along with the legal aspects of altering photographs) and absolutely fascinating, though I would have liked to see him go into more depth regarding UFOs and photos of anomalous creatures (there is only one photo of a stupid-looking "sea monster" when he could have had his pick from dozens of photos of Nessie, Yeti, aliens, etc). He also claims the infamous photo of Lee Harvey Oswald holding the rifle and pamphlets was not faked in any way (the author used to work for the CIA-- conspiracy theorists can make of that what they will). Definitely worth a read. ...

Thoughtful Book
People are generally aware about how facts can be distorted and misrepresented in the text and art media but tend to be less familiar with how easily photographs can be altered for the purposes of deception. In fact, many people give too much credibility to photographs because they assume that photographs always present scenes realistically. Mr. Brugioni shows not only how easily photographs are altered to distort the truth, he also conveys an idea of how widespread the practice of photo manipulation is in the modern media. I recommend this book strongly for people who are interested in media ethics or want to better understand the role of images in communication by governments, advertisers, and news organizations.

Fasinating
This was very entertaining and caught my attention. It opened my eyes to a lot of tricks in photography that we tend to miss.

I think this is a book that all digital artists should read. It would show them what not to do.

Not for those workinh in RGB
I purchased this book based on the online reccomendations of others. I was shocked to learn that the entire focus of the book is on CMYK color and not RGB! (I only work in RGB as do many others.) This was rather misleading to say the least. I urge those of you who DO work in RGB to pass on this book. It is strictly designed for CMYK. Howard

Great book on CMYK corrections
Though it competes in some ways with my book (Adobe Photoshop 5 How-To, ISBN 1571691561), I think there is a healthy difference of opinion and technique in this book. Certainly a valuable tool in learning to use Photoshop tools and image theory. One of the few I recommend.

Takes the mystery out of pre-press and color correction
Professional Photoshop 5 is out now. Where is it Amazon? If you have not worked extensively in color correction you will need to read this a couple of times to use all the techniques involed, but, you will understand it all. It helps alot if you know Photoshop well.

A Compliment to the first
Visceral Manipulation II is a wonderful compliment to the first book. Barrel takes the time to further elaborate on specifics which he quickly went over in the first book. More attention is given to detail and to treatment.

a D.C. comments
Offers the intriguing hypothesis that the primary cause of many functional and structural disturbances is fixation/adhesion of visceral articulating surfaces. Can be used as a textbook of diagnosis and treatment by those trained in bodywork, especially those familiar with the subtle osteopathic cranial techniques.

Helpfull!
Mr. Barral and Mercier adds to the osteopathic armamentarium with an easy understandable approach to the viscera and its associated structures as it relates to the body in a mechanical, neuro-logical and chemical manner, making it accesible for manual treatment (which of course should be in context of treating the patient and not the pain). This book is helpfull as a learning tool (for educational support) and a clinical manual.

Exposing Manipulation
I grew up in "Small Town," Ohio, book-smart with no street savvy. When I moved to Atlanta, they were eating me alive. After getting bilked by my stockbroker, an unscrupulous mortgage company and phony real estate investor, a landlord, a car dealer and their finance company, I remembered having heard about Dr. Rodney Pearson's book, EXPOSING MANIPULATION, from a mutual friend in Ohio. I bought the book.

I had often wished I could take a course in "Street Smarts." I found that course in EXPOSING MANIPULATION. I only wish I had read it as a teen-ager; I could have avoided damaging relationships and saved thousands of dollars.

Thankfully, I didn't have to develop a suspicious nature. In his one-friend-to-another conversational style, Dr. Pearson taught me to recognize the signs in people who mean me no good.

I'd like to see everyone I love armed with the knowledge contained in EXPOSING MANIPULATION.

This book is SOLID GOLD
I read Dr. Pearson's book, Significantly Single. I thought it was a great book then I read Exposing Manipulation and I was in absolute awe! Now I know why my life has been such a mess. I am so impressed with this book! It deals with everything there is to know about manipulation. It has helped me to change my whole life. The part that really got me was about how children manipulate their parents and how parents teach them how to do it! As a single parent, that information was very helpful for me. I also liked the part about leaders who manipulate. Now I know what to look for and you can believe my eyes are wide open! This book is like a text book on morality and consideration with a huge amount practical information. I loved it! Dr Pearson is one Hell of a Writer!

"The Book Rules"
Ok, I have not "yet" finished Dr. Bergman's compilation. However, I must say that I have a unique insight into its origins, namely its editor, Thomas Bergmann. As a student of Northwestern Health Sciences University, I am privilaged to attend Dr. Bergmann's Methods III lecture and laboratory several times a week. I also am fortunate enough to sit in on his Principles and Philosophy of Chiropractic lectures. These experiences have taught me a great deal about Chiropractic science and practice in just a short few weeks as a trimester 3/10 student here at NWHS. I have learned a lot so far and continue to learn more every day. I believe Dr. bergmann to be a giant in the field of Chiropractic Technique. While my opinion may be swayed a bit and my history in the field limited, this is my opinion. Don't believe me? Buy the book!!!!!!!

Basic Chiropractic technique made easy...
This book is in use for the Chiropractic course in Odense, Denmark, as a textbook on chiropractic technique in the 5.th and 6.th semester of the 10 semester university programme. Great book with nice illustrations, allthough there are a few mistakes or typing errors. This is a great book for teaching manipulative therapy.

Great text to learn chiropractic technique
I recently graduated chiropractic college and found this book to be one of the main sources to help me learn chiropractic technique. The pictures are great. It shows you how to set up and what the direction of torque is. I used this to study for the National Boards Part 2, 3 and 4. It also has a great section on how show how to translate a PRS-SP Gonstead listing into a National or Medicare listing. This section alone helped me a lot on the boards. I also used the following study guides for the preparing for the Chiropractic National Boards:
National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Diagnostic Imaging) Volume 1
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Case Management and Technique Practical) Volume 2 by Patrick Leonardi
These study guides helped me tremendously on the boards. They prepared me for the type of questions to get ready for. They also helped me to know which sections I was weak in before taking the boards. These 5 books helped me greatly in preparation for taking the boards. Buying these books are definitely better than taking over the boards again.

worth a buy if you do not mind typos
Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques is an alternative to Travell's Trigger Point Manual if you do not do TP injections. It has great pictures, well explained treatment techniques (if you are up to date with your anatomy and medical terms) and lots of references. The disadvantage are typos (the editor must have had a bad day and was unable to write the German words for the references right, but also some English words are off!) Parts of the text are repeated in the book twice, what I thought is unnecessary and only adds to the number of pages but not the quality of content.

Great book for the money!
I'm an Advanced Practitioner of Massage Therapy and find this book VERY helpful. The Muscle Energy Techniques (M.E.T.s) are explained very thoroughly, and the accompanying drawings, and or pictures, are very helpful. While familiar with the M.E.T.s, having this book as a reference for all the upper body muscles, and their positioning for the best M.E.T. applications, is very rewarding. I'd recommend this book highly to anyone that has a basic understanding of the therapeutic aspects of massage and M.E.T.s.
Mr. Chiatow and Ms. Delany, PLEASE!!! I can't wait for the next volume! I'm sure the Lower Body will be as good!

Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques - Vol. I
This is a really clearly written, concise book, with drawings and pictures of muscle positions, trigger points, etc. I bought the Jane Travell Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Books before this one came out, and for the money wish I had bought the Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Tech. Book. Unless you are a Physician, who wants to inject the patient's trigger points with a saline solution, and then you better be very exact in your aim with the needle, I think the Clinical Application of Neurom. Tech. Book is a much more practical, useful, hands on, straight forward book that addresses all the trigger points, origins and insertions of the muscles in a very user friendly way. Until this book came out, Jane Travell's was the only great reference guide; but what patient really likes injections? Now this book surpasses Dr. Travells, in that all the material in it is useful and usable. Can't wait for Vol. II, Lower Body, to come out.

Easily Fooled

Author: Bob Fellows

Good, but not what you might expect
OK, I like this book. It's got some fun stuff that would be good if you're looking for, say, some unique and creative party activities. It is also heavy on information regarding magic and hypnosis itself. However, based on the title: "Easily Fooled, New Insights and Techniques for Resisting *Manipulation*, I was hoping for more...well, insights and techniques to resist manipulation, in terms of everyday manipulation. There is precious little to that end in the book. The price is VERY steep as well, not only because of the shortness of the book, but because of the scarcity of useful information I mentioned and the misleading nature of the title. This is mostly just a "Bob Fellows show in a book".

The be-all, end-all for books on the subject of resisting manipulation so far is still "Emotional Blackmail" by Susan Forward.

Mindfully Fun!
Easy to comprehend and apply, this book is filled with fun, thought-provoking activities for understanding the basis of manipulation. After reading the suggested techniques, I could't wait to answer the next call from a telephone solicitor and have a little fun! I have also had the pleasure of seeing the author, Mr. Fellows perform live at a conference. He was mesmerizing. If you get the chance to see him, don't miss it.

How to not be fooled!
This book is a delight for anyone who has ever felt conned or ripped-off, or who feels somehow trapped on the phone by telemarketers. The author, Bob Fellows, is a professional magician and inspirational speaker who integrates his knowledge of how magic is done (Amazingly, it's a trick!) with the foibles we humans are err to and offers information and advice about how to handle the often tricky confrontations when we find ourselves stuck with someone trying to persuade us when we aren't interested. Lucidly written, replete with engaging, real-life examples, EASILY FOOLED is a pleasure to read. And it's a valuable, practical guide for avoiding foolish situations.

The Renovation Manipulation: The Church Counter-Renovation Handbook
Published in Paperback by Aquinas Publishing Ltd. (15 January, 2000)
Author: Michael S. Rose
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $53.00
Average review score:

Time to restore the Churches
Michael Rose does an excellent job in exposing the architectural renovators who have come in and dismantled many beautiful Roman Catholic Churches. Even to this day, with examples such as the new Cathedral in Los Angeles and the many round Churches, we continue to see the renovations continue.

This book is a great manual for any parishoner who may be in a parish which is about to undergo a major overhaul or a new Church is in the process of being built. Once you read through this book, one will understand how to defend against the Protestant renovations being discussed. Manipulation has become a key in replacing the tabernacle with a chair or removing the altar rails or side altars, and this book will show that these renovations have no precedence in the history of the Catholic Church.

Mr. Rose shows the lies that are fed to the parishioners by these "renovation committess" ...

Michael Rose to the Rescue
The Renovation Manipulation is an essential tool for bewildered Catholics whose churches are under attack by a small but powerful cartel of contemporary iconoclasts.

Over the past 30 years, as the tempo mounted in a drive to drastically remodel churches, few laymen and women had the relevant Church documents at hand to defend their territory when the professional liturgical designer hit town. Faithful Catholics were thus largely helpless before claims that the Second Vatican Council mandated the proposed flood of innovations in church architecture, design and liturgical practice.

Normally docile though they are, most Catholics do not want their houses of worship to look like high school gymnasiums. They are uncomfortable when commanded to watch each other pray across a central table altar, rather than to gaze reverently at a crucifix above the altar. They are offended when the tabernacle in which the Blessed Sacrament is reserved disappears into a broom closet beside the furnace room. But they have lacked the documentation to prove that these orders represent merely idiosyncratic interpretation by a self-designated elite.

In The Renovation Manipulation, Michael Rose explicates the problem and provides exactly the documents needed to enable the faithful -- both lay and clerical -- to defend and preserve the liturgical forms, art and architecture of the Catholic church according to the authentic norms of her tradition and the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy.

He has done his Church a great service, and done it thoroughly, articulately and with civility. His book is highly recommended.

Good, Clear list of what to look for in renovation movements
Michael Rose puts clarity to the issues of the modern American Church renovation movement. He clearly lists the issues which are driving this group of people forward and the damage they do the the Church as a whole and how they seek to use renovation as a means to changing the precepts of the Church itself.

The archi-liturgical movement has clear advocates and lines of defense and attack. The rest of the people have books like this and not much more. If this is happening to you, best of luck and prayer may be your last defense. This book can help you see what may be happening in your parish. Not too much on how to stop it.
