An excellent overviewThis is a clear, easy-to-read introduction to the body-mind theory behind Hanna's "Somatics" system, and how the system works in practice. The anecdotes he tells are engaging, and I especially liked his insistence that the process is a collaboration: the practitioner isn't a "healer" so much as a teacher, and healing takes place because the sufferer re-learns how to use the forgotten parts of his/her body. I also found his explanation of the "soma" concept very enlightening: too many thinkers (even those of the "New Age" persuasion) promote the view that we are spirits trapped in bodies and that we should hence adopt a "mind over matter" philosophy. Hanna, by contrast, insists that the two are interdependent and that what happens to one affects the other -- in both directions. He points out that this idea is reflected in Zen Buddhism, yoga, and other Eastern philosophies. (Western thinkers have tended to misunderstand it, possibly because of the mind-vs-body dichotomy in Christian thought, but Hanna clarifies the matter nicely.) I also found his explanation of the Feldenkrais system and its relationship to other methods of bodywork (such as Alexander) very useful. Although some of the research he cites is a little outdated now, nothing he says is (to my knowledge) contradicted by recent studies. Despite its age, this is still a very useful book for anyone interested in the mind-body relationship.

Ultimate pocket book for manual medicine...If you are interested in a complete but concise fingertip review of manual medicine, this is the book. It is short and easy to read/review. The drawings are excellent and show force vectors, not just hand positioning. Written by some of the top European doctors in the field of manual medicine.

Complete coverageThis book is among the best in this field. The discussion of conveyor-belt robotics is captivating, as is the thorough coverage of vornoi-centered inverse kinematics. I would heartily recommend this book to any student of sensorless navigation.
The only negative aspect is that no account of FRAS is provided as is the case in some other books on this subject.
Overall, I give the book high marks for grammar and spelling.

Facilitation Techniques based on NDTThis book is well written with many treatment ideas. It covers an abundant amount of activities/treatment techniques that could be used with any patient with neurological impairments. The pictures that supplement the ideas are very helpful. This book would benefit anyone who works with children or adults in any setting in the medical field. Even a great review for those who are already NDT certified!

The Gemstone File by Richard AlanThe research that went into this book is incredible. It has been approached from a contradictory method and still reveals almost total support of the original "Skeleton Key" of Bruce Robert's Gemstone File. Every date of each event that is outlined, is backed up by newpaper and magazine articls from the New York Times, Washington Post, Look Magazine. The San Fransisco Chronicle, etc. The information concerning the events leading upto and sourrounding the assassination of JFK, portray a much more believable story then the one we have been told for decades. This book is a must to own!

Excellent overview of techniques in genetic engineeringThis book is a "wet" approach to genetic engineering and outlines for the reader modern laboratory techniques in cloning and gene sequencing. It is well suited for a mathematician or an aspiring bioinformatics specialist who needs an overview of the experimental side of genetic engineering. The treatment is very detailed and a lot is covered given the size of the book, but it is well written and an interesting read. It does require a fair amount of background in biochemistry but even readers without such a background can follow the dialog if close attention is paid to the definitions. A little elementary physics background is required in the discussion on gel electrophoresis, and in the discussion on biolistic transformations with a particle gun. For the mathematician/bioinformaticist the most useful chapters will be the chapters on the making and screening libraries. The validation of gene sequence data is an important but tedious exercise and these chapters introduce the reader to what must lie ahead if such activities are pursued. Even if read leisurely the book is fascinating and one takes away a deeper appreciation of the tools and techniques used in this new century of biology.
I went from being idealistic to realizing that leading questions can cause your mind to think whatever your d*mn religious leader wants you to.
