A very useful book, but you can't use it by itself
This book is great, it takes you through almost all of the steps that you need to completely restore your car, but on a lot of things it merely mentions them and doesn't really tell you a lot about what your supposed to do. What I did was I bought this book and a haynes automotive repair manual(or Chilton's) and I used that for the more technical stuff. This book has 20-30 pages of exploded views of various areas on the cars and also has a list of retailers that sell parts and/or services for the z series. If your trying to restore your car get this book.

Your Z-car will love you for it!
I saw this book long before I bought it, and after buying it, I was very sorry I took so long to get it! It covers most every aspect of the full restoration of this beloved car. From the frame-up or a little at a time. This book has the info you need, and more. The info inside can not be purchased, borrowed, or stolen for a better price! Alone, this book is not enough, but it's a great way to get the spark ignited. (No single book could possibly have everything, I know, I have bought almost all of 'em.)

80% of what you need to restore your Z
"~I would largely reiterate what the other reviewers have said: this book is the single most comprehensive reference for a partial or ground-up rebuild of your Z. I would have only a couple of negative things to say about it:"~ you are told to adjust the flange angle on the Johnson Rod strut, it can leave you scratching your head...

Highly Recommended
This book has been a great help to me for identifying and costing pumps that I might want to add to my collection. Nothing published to date even compares.

The Best of the Best
This book has given me hours of enjoyable reading and is a great asset in dealing with antique pumps. The information supplied is unsurpassed by any previous attempts of this subject. This book should become a classic novel!

A SUPER RESOURCE
I have just recently got into vintage gas pumps and have found this book to be the greatest asset in identifying gas pumps and would recomend that anyone involved in this hobby get this book asap. Super job by Jack in putting all of this info in one book.

A great resource
This book is a must-have for anyone who owns a home. It offers clear, step-by-step instructions and expert advice for a wide range of projects.

An excellent read
This book is a real good addition to every carpenter's library. You could even use the woodworking section of this book (Chapter 3) to help you build library shelving that you could then use to place this book (or similar woodworking books) upon. Hot dog!

The illustrations were fun, but they fell short. Any good profesional worth his spackle knows, not every project goes to plan. Aluminum foil covered pennies installed incorrectly in the fuse box, or sump pump flooding, or what to do when you drop a running bandsaws in the crib, the illustrations never tell you about what to do then. But they're part of any job, yet the book really leaves you out to dry. There isn't even a single section on Stop! Drop! and Roll! What if you forgot? What if you mixed them up? What then?

It's still really helpful and comprehensive though.

And while helpful and comprehensive, I do have a few points of "disagreement" about this book too. Mr. Huffington is the profesional, I know, but consider: when it comes to hanging the wallpaper, your standard staple gun work just as well as Mr. Hufnagel's more traditional glue methods. And shingles aren't nearly as complicated as he makes it out to be. Am I the only one who has ever used a tarp to stop leaking? I doubt it. And particleboard cabinets do, too, work. You just need to paint them yellow or black. Mr. TV-money never tells you that. And you might as well rip out the chapter on replacing clogged drainage pipes. It's a waste. Just use the chemicals you have left over from sealing your grout (Chapter 13) and pour them down the drain. Drop in a lit match, leave the room, and you just saved time and money.

And while I didn't care for the salty langauge he chooses to describe his various chores, I forgive him. He should just clean up his "blue" act some. Kids might be reading this.

Although maybe more kids should read this. With their dainty hands they could replace you when it comes to cleaning the gunk from stormdrains (Chapter 23) and dislodging chunks of wood that might jam up an otherwise perfectly good Skill Saw (Chapter 3).

I highly, highly recommend this book!!

Easy to follow, useful reference
This book is a must-have reference for the novice to the expert do-it-yourselfer. It contains well presented, step by step directions to everything from simple, routine fixes to more advanced around the house projects. The clear photography really helped to clarify the sequence of the work. Would make a great gift.

The Step-By-Step Guide to Engine Blueprinting: Practical Methods for Racing and Rebuilding

Good principles
This book has some very good principles on engine blueprinting (as the name suggests), but tends to be more Chevy/American engine oriented.
With import performance these days (European and Japanese straight fours and staight sixes, twin cams, v-tec, and four/five valve heads), an updated version with broader scope is needed.
Adequate photographs make the text easy to understand, and the witing is straightforward.
If you are not a professional engine builder, at least you will know what to ask for next time you visit the machine shop.

Best printed material on the subject...
This book provides the necessary information to get you going toward developing or improving your serious engine building skills. What it doesn't and shouldn't have are the figures for your particular combination. For example: If you are building a small block Ford, it doesn't tell you that your pin height should be XYZ with ABC stroke. What it does do is tell you how use the precision tools required to assemble cylinder heads, short block (including degreeing your cam) and all of the computational formulas needed for compression ratio, CID, etc..etc.

The material is presented well and is full of lots of good information without the common bias for a particular brand engine . Even though Small Block Chevy parts are pictorialized throughout the book, the text and information apply to any motor. An example describing how to check pushrod length and rocker arm geometry alone is worth $....

Impressive, fact-filled read of Engine Blueprinting without forcing you to go step-by-step, but giving them to you in logical order.

Take Care.

Rob!

This book has to be on your workbench!!
We just bought the updated version of this book to go with our almost worn-out original copy. Hands down, the best book on learning the correct procedures for blueprinting an engine, not just rebuilding it. Anyone who desires to understand the how's and why's of setting up their engine correctly will want to have this book on their workbench. The material is easy to read, pictures are descriptive, and the author makes the understanding of complicated procedures easy to understand.
Even if you cannot perform the machine work, at least you will understand what you need to ask for, the reasons why, and understand if it was done correctly.
In our opinion, a 5-Star rating does not do this book justice. 10-Star would be more like it and it's our hope that Rick Voegelin will consider writing additional technical guides in the near future.

Helpful Stuff
I got this book to figure out the details of some built-ins for my living room. As someone who tinkers around the house but has no real training I found DeKorne's book thorough, straightforward and down to earth. The photos were helpful and in the end the book really helped my project take shape.

A superb, well-illustrated book
Mr. DeKorne-- who I have read for years in Tools of the Trade magazine and the esteemed Journal of Light Construction, has written a marevelous, easy-to-read guide to trim carpentry. I would recommend it to anyone curious about the trade, the tools to use, and the techniques to get a pro-like finish. There is an old saying that "a little caulk and a little paint make a carpenter what he ain't" ... Well, you won't have to use that excuse after following the guidance of this book.

scottwm review unfair
The reviewer, scottwm, has a right not to like this book, but he does a disservice by misleading potential readers. Mr. DeKorne does discuss how to terminate a mouding (p. 58), and yes, he does'nt cover crown for a vaulted ceiling, but this is like saying a book on building paper airplanes doesn't cover jet engines -- it's one of the more difficult carpentry tasks. Indeed, anyone trying it is advised to build a horizontal shelf and install conventional crown below it as a way to trim this difficult junction. But the point is, this is hardly a slight to this excellent carpentry book. What's great about DeKorne's work here is that it's not full a minutia that bogs a reader down in unnessary detail, but get's right ot the heart of doing the work.

Neat stuff
It was a Christmas gift wrapped in bridal shower paper, but that's My buddy's sense of humor at work. "Truck" really struck a chord with me,as it will with anyone who has ever taken anything apart with the hope of getting it back together. One of those moments was when he'd reached the point of only being able to walk out to the garage and rearrange the tools, then go inside to have a drink and think about it. Man, have I ever been there. There are some similarities with Chris Goodrich's "Roadster", but Jerome is motivated by a sturdy thriftiness, while Goodrich had other issues to deal with. Great book, one of the best gifts I've received and a good addition to the "Auto as Metaphor for Life" section in a gearhead's library.

Hysterically funny and useful too!
I've read the book five times since buying it, as the humor camouflaged some of the practical gems about rebuilding old trucks. A wonderful curl-up-before-the fireplace read!

For everyone who dreams to be a Gearhead
It's much more than story it's an experience!

Helpful at a high level, but lacking accurate detail
Decent book. Helpful for introducing basic concepts of modifications. Unfortunately contains some inaccuracies (refers to Solo II as Solo and ProSolo as Solo II, states all Civics have coil springs at all corners vs. the torsion bars of the 3G Civic and 1G CRX, etc.). I wish it had more detail, but all in all a good book for anyone wanting to get an overview.

Pretty good actually
This book would help you to get to know your honda civic engine even more. Good book for beginners. It would tell you which mods are worth buying or not and what kind of power to expect. It tells you what kind of HP gains you can expect from your engine when modified from "don't even bother" to "mild" to the "best". The only thing I think it didn't cover is the auto tranny which some has... it mostly concentrated on the D16Z6 SOHC and B16A DOHC Si engines and manual tranny. All in all get this book if you wanna learn more about civics and it would help you get on the right track.

Great for beginners
This book is excellent if you are just starting out with a Civic/CRX. The author suggests the smart ways to go about upgrading your car, not just sinking money into parts you won't need later. He covers every major topic, from bolt-on performance to interior and exterior styling, and is thankfully not biased either way.

The author does make a few comments which are 100% false, for instance, about limited slip differentials which he says "are not available as an aftermarket performance product, therefore your only option is to locate a factory unit..." WRONG, Quaife has been making LSD's for Civics for years. This is just one example of the author making off the wall statements even novices know are false.

He is also extremely biased towards the B18 series of engines, giving the workhorse B16A (which is much more suited to Civic/CRX's) a passing mention. Even the H22 prelude motor, which is totally unsuitable for Civics unless you want a drag-only car, gets more mention than the B16A.

For beginners, this book is great. It's a good introduction to the Honda world, and presents logical, money saving methods and advice for modifying your Honda. Don't take everything written as 100% gospel though.

Great reference
A great reference for learning how to manage the water in your pool.

COmplete Swimming Pool Reference
Although I found the book to be somewhat outdated, it is clear and consise and easy to read. I am not a pool "expert" as some of the reviewers are, I am new to the pool business and in that regard i found it very helpful.Remember, this is a refence book published a while ago and pool "standards" continue to change.

The best swimming pool reference book I've ever owned.
I've been in the pool biz for twenty five years and this is the only pool related book I've read that didn't put me to sleep. It's clear, concise, and very understandable for people at ALL levels.

The pool business is a tough, comprehensive subject and Tom Griffith has done a masterful job at tackling all the issues.

Good, basic information
This is a good basic book about red-eared sliders. You will learn details about sex identification and varieties, environmental needs, diseases, feeding, and even breeding. The author does a good job of describing the types and sizes of enclosures needed, water filtration, basking and light needs, and temperature. The need to have an easy system of water cleaning is emphasized. There is some discussion about recognizing symtoms of sickness and how to solve the problem usually either through changes in the environment or diet. Even with a book such as this, caring for turtles would definitely be somewhat of a learn as you go endeavor. This book can get one started but careful observation and fine tuning is required.

RES in a nutshell
All you ever wanted to know about this particular yet popular pet. Easy to read, all topics covered, small, cheap, get it.

Red-Eared Sliders
I like this book because it easy reading.

The Complete PC Upgrade & Maintenance Guide
I really like the book. I have the 8th and 9th editions and feel the book is very informative for beginners and for the experienced PC techs. There are thing that I sometimes forget and I use the book to research things. I also use it when I have trouble with my home PC that I built. I don't think I would have gotten as far into computers if I had not had this book to assist me in my education

A book a PC technician must have!
This is a technicians bible. I'm just learning about pc repair and upgrading and this book is everything I need to know about when to do what and when not to do something. This is a book I'm going to keep around for a very long time.

A book I wouldn't be without.
