My husband handled all our car repairs during our nine-year marriage. Right after we separated, my car died. One of my fears about separating was that I'd get taken advantage of because of my lack of knowledge about cars. I had read "Street Smart Secrets" several months prior and had found a mechanic using the book's guidelines in case my car ever broke down. This mechanic looked at my car and me holistically, checked out all the systems, diagnosed what was wrong and gave me rides back and forth. My whole philosophy about how to maintain my car has changed. I'm moving soon and I'll use the checklists and questions in the book to pick a new mechanic. I'm also going to apply this philosophy to choose other service providers. Thanks for giving away the secrets to finding an honest mechanic.

Short and sweet, this book will give you the confidence needed to successfully repair your Subaru! Not only did I use this book as a 'reference guide' I went ahead and read it like a text book to learn EVERYTHING about my 1984 GL wagon. This book also enabled me to do big jobs from replacing engines and clutches, to swapping out drive trains. All with NO prier knowledge! Now that I got a '93 Loyale, I will be picking up the updated version. Remember: ALWAYS go with Haynes. Chilton's manuals are TERRIBLE.

'Super Vans' is a great trip back to the '70s. Although I laughed to whole way through, the book is also very informative about the history of vans, 'vanners' and 'vanning', as the book describes the act of using a van.

Most bike shops have a copy of Sutherland's -- and with good reason: it contains a huge amount of useful information. The scope is mostly reference tables, diagnostics, gotchas, and hints. For example, Sutherland's lists bolt circle diameters and subtle variations for most brands of cranks and chainrings; it also describes how to diagnose various problems with poor shifting, skipping, and so on. Sutherland's is not a how-to manual, nor an engineering guide like "Bicycles and Tricycles" or "The Bicycle Wheel". Nor will it substitute for one of them. However, there is nothing that will substitute for Sutherland's! If you work on bicycles a lot, you will find lots of information to help you do it right and do it quickly. If you work on custom bikes (mixed parts), unusual bikes (parts with odd construction or dimensions) or old bikes (hard-to-find and unfamiliar) parts, you will find it especially useful. You will also enjoy this book if you simply enjoy bike part trivia -- a Swiss bottom bracket has the same thread pitch and diameter as a French bottom bracket, but with the right cup thread reversed. True or false? The answer is in Sutherland's, and is easy to find. Sutherland's contains 25 years of specifications, experience and hints, collected from many sources ranging from manufacturers to folks who service bikes every day. It has lots of time-tested tips on "how to deal with hard problems", frame damage, compatibility, part substitutions, and so on. Each new edition has lots of updates for recent changes in the bike biz. Sutherland's is both authoratative and practical. Sutherland's is well-thought-out right down to the construction -- a binder so it opens flat, you can spread out the pages you need right now, and the pages are heavy paper coated to make them grease-resistant. Sutherland's does not compete with any other book or guide, it is alone. Sutherland's _is_ the standard.

This probably couldnt have been presented better if there was someone there doing the work for you. It takes you through easy to follow steps. Allround an esenchal peice of litriture.

As with all Clymer motorcycle manuals, this one walks you step-by-step through everything you need to do to do everything from changing sparkplugs to rebuilding the engine. I used it replace the clutch, set valve clearance, synchronize the carbs, and many other tasks, saving myself, literally, hundreds of dollars.

I have been riding bikes for years, and I have been riding hard. Because I end up doing my own repairs, I needed a GOOD book. The Clymer's Manuals have been invaluable to me. One of the best overall guides to any motorcycle. Specs, diagrams, accurate pics...you want it, the Clymer has it...

Fantastic book on everything you might what know about boat maintenance. Written with a sense of humor, but very well written.... the best book I have read on the subject.

Only 132 pages but full of valuable info on what to use or not to use for interior and exterior work.
