Maintenance is one of the, if not the, most difficult functions to manage and control in industry. Left alone, maintenance tends toward chaos: fighting fires, too busy for PM, repeat failures, with senior management often unappreciative and non-supportive. Nevertheless, without good maintenance, industry can't run. How does one move from chaos to Control?

Mr. Nyman has written the definitive how-to on this subject, and no Plant Engineer or Maintenance Manager should be without this book in his library. This book gives detailed explanations of the Maintenance Planning function, including both Planner and Supervisor roles, with specifics on the process of how to scope out a job, determine material requirements, coordinate multiple craft groups, estimate time requirements, and then to effectively schedule planned jobs.

The book also includes appropriate metrics for measuring maintenance performance, Planner as well as Supervisor - a topic that is especially important since maintenance is mostly about cost avoidance, which itself is almost impossible to measure.

This book is well-written, concise, and based on real-world experience from a real pro. I recommend it heartily.

This book is a must for all power systems engineers (industry and academia). the authors have embarked on a problem which is of great importance in today's competetive dergulated power industry. with ever growing need for increasing profits and reducing the cost of generation and transmission, the maintenance scheduling could make or break a power provider. The authors have ever so correctly addressed this problem both from theoretical and practical point of view. Their recommendations and suggestions regarding the present, past and future practices are right on target. As an academician I think both students and practicing engineers should use this book for it's theoretical, practical and up to date information on maintenance scheduling.

I love this book! Any time any of my indoor plants aren't doing well, I'm able to find out why in this book. Usually I'm overwatering, but sometimes I've bought the wrong plant for the space to begin with. Very happy with the book.

As in the preceding three textbooks of this series, the authors take us through principles of installation and general operating issues to the main topic of interest: how to install and repair such machines as horizontal and vertical pumps, reciprocating and liquid ring vacuum pumps, blowers, reciprocating gas engines and associated compressors. The second part of this very readable and well-illustrated text takes us to maintenance issues involving such equipment as industrial gearing, belt-drives, steam turbines, turboexpanders, gas turbines, and hydraulic governors, to the maintenance of electric motors and associated apparatus. Part three deals with storage protection and gives cost-saving hints on grease lubricated bearings as well as lubrication management in general. Also touched on is vibration and condition monitoring--a fine overview of profit-driven practices. The book closes with solid information on the maintainability, serviceability, and availability of machinery. When is the next book coming?

As a veteran rehabber, I do not expect much that's new from most "fixer" books. But this one pleasantly surprised me. It opened my eyes to the fact that I had not come close to maxing out profits from my properties. The chapter on marketing also weighs in as solid gold. I can see why my FSBO efforts have not paid off like I thought they would. Now I know how to really sell faster and at a higher price--without paying a commission! My guess is that whether your a newbie or pro, this book will definitely guide you to make more money( or collect more rents if you choose to hold--which I do not).

Unfortunately this book is out of circulation. I guess it didn't go back into print because most people buy windows rather than make them. That is a shame, because this book is well written. I had first heard about it when I bought a set of Freud router bits for making window sashes. They said, "Get Make your own handcrafted doors and windows by John Birchard to learn how to make them. It is chock full of ideas, pictures, and examples.
Windows are a critical application and this book will help you in both your window making and door making quests. I had been trying to find a copy for about a year, and finally found one available here at Amazon, after calling Sterling Publishing.
Highly recommended.

I also found his new book, Maximize Your Inheritance for Widows, Widowers, and Heirs. Am currently reading this.
