Invaluable Tool for Shadetree MechanicsIt's too bad this book is out of print. It was written after the style of John Muir's classic "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive", and follows the same plain-language explanation of mechanicals and proceedures as Muir's book, with helpful advice along the way like "If you're getting angry at your car, stop for a while." Sound words! Instead of photographs to accompany the text, there are extremely clear artist's illustrations which, in my opinion, surpass most photos that appear in manuals of this type. A very worthwhile book to have for any owner of an old Datsun/Nissan, and one which did in fact keep my '72 1600 Pickup alive for many years. These are still in stock at some Nissan dealership parts counters.

A MUST HAVE for 3wheeler ownersIf you have a Honda Big Red or ATC250SX then you NEED this book. Lots of great tech tips and troubleshooting guides, plus it has illustrations that you can actually decipher. Some technical things could use more pictures, but those are the things that, if you're doing them, you pretty much can do anyway.

An excellent book for a beginner or experienced mechanic.Mr. Yost has done a very good job of covering very diverse subject matter. Engine designs are so different in the details that most engine books cover just one model or manufacturer. I found all of the information in the book very interesting and will use most of it between the John Deere I just completed and the Ford I need to do soon.
Between this book and your model-specific service manual, even an inexperienced mechanic should be able to complete a tractor engine.

Great Book by a Great ManMy father wrote this book and I am very proud of the book and him. He wrote this when I was 11. I think that it is a great read. I highly recommend it. Of course, you probably have a newer air conditioner. But, I still highly recommend this book.

A Great Book for Beginning Auto RestorersThis book doesn't go into great detail about specific marques or engines, and isn't heavy into technical drawings or comparisons, and won't tell you how to win at Palm Beach, but if you're weighing the pros and cons of buying and restoring a British sports car and want to know what you're in for, this is the book for you. The author walks the neophyte all the way from choosing the right car to maintaining his or her finished beauty, and doesn't pull many punches. It was the first book I bought after I got my '67 MGB GT, and I still refer to it, if only for the pleasant writing style and as food for the daydreams I still have about finding that '63 E-type.

Great ideas not only for the novice.Very good and helpful information. Although the book has some great information and tips it is not designed for the complete novice (and the author will tell you as well).
Personally, I am more interested in restoring Japanese bikes where as this book tends to focus a little on British bikes, however it contained a ton of valuable tips and made my projects easier and more enjoyable.

Oh, one last point ... I liked the authors style and it was ease to read and I enjoyed going back to it as I needed more ideas.

Simplifies a mind-boggling subjectThis book really helped me understand how an engine and its electronic parts work. There's tons of stuff here that you'll never read in automotive magazines, which are mostly trying to sell you something.
It's full of information that I'm sure I'll be referring to in the future, so I'd say it's good to read it once and then keep it around for reference. A great value!

5 stars are not enoughIf you are lucky enough to find this "out of print" book, buy it, whatever the price. Never could I find such an inspiring book. It is about love, love for houses, love that one student felt for another student (Sam and Mary started refurbishing houses when they were students). This book is full of facts. It explains exactly what you should do if you want become wealthy. Not only with money but also with warm feelings. Mary explains what was her way. Sam gives his own point of view. Practically and with the strong desire to help you to experiment the same exciting life. Thanks to this book we believe that we belong to a group of unknown individuals who fight every day to keep and enhance traditions of good building and happy living. When will we create a Club? Britanny Ferries, a French company, dedicated to passengers and trucks transportation between England, Ireland, Spain and France invented once a Club for English new owners of houses in France. These guys cross the Channel every month (some of them do it every week-end) to fix the roof or paint the windows. If you know one of these lovely people, ask them. They might be able to lend their own copy of the book to you. They might have discovered "How we made a million dollars recycling great old houses" when they were student in Yale of Harvard 20 years ago, when this book was published. "Why should we bother writing such a review for an "out of print item"? May be just as a mark of recognition to Sam and Mary Weir who made so much with this book to enlighten our life.

How Women Win the Auto Repair Game: A Consumer Survival Guide

This Book Has Saved Me & My Husband So Much Money & Hassle!I always pull this book out before taking my cars in for work! It tells me the likely problem, what the solution should be, and what an unscrupulous machanic will try to sell me that I don't need. It also tells you the secrets of how auto repair places calculate how much to charge you & how you get them to do only what you need for a resonable price. The best part of the book is how the author explains how no one (even men) know about cars' complicated systems in this day and age and that NO QUESTION is stupid. Every time I go in to an auto repair shop, they are amazed at how much I know (with very little reading since there are easy-to-read indexes on car problems) and they know not to mess with me! I know the words & body language that work best too! This book took the stress out of dealing with car repairs! I got it as a gift & now I am buying it for everyone I know--especially guys.
