The material presented in this book is essential for students of fish diseases. A wide range of fish species commonly cultured in North America are covered and all of the ecconomically important diseases are discussed. The approach to health maintenance of cultured fish is especially helpful. The text is written in a manner that can be understood by the average college student or fish farmer. Probably not for the aquarist due to the focus on aquaculture species. This book will probably be a good text until 2010.

I read this book 25 years ago when I was a fledgling truck mechanic, and I found it to be a comprehensive, useful guide to all things mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, etc. It is a must for someone wanting to have a basic understanding of these principles, and how to apply them to cars, trucks, tractors, welders, air compressors, pumps, etc. Separate chapters on Disassembly and Assembly, discussing methods of work; a chapter on The Inclined Plane, and relating this principle to ramps, screw threads, gears and leverage, and the angle of a bulldozers blade; a chapter on Lubrication, with a cartoon drawing of an old neglected bulldozer sitting in the field, covered with cobwebs and dust, a cat resting on the hood, and the caption, "bearings are probably rusting." This book should be in every mechanics library.

This book, along with Ian Andrew Norman's book, gives a fantastic introduction to the world of heavy-duty trucks. If you are diesel technician student, or a journeyman mechanic, this book is definitely for you.

This book tells the story of the Island Tug & Barge Co's two big salvage tugs, both named "Sudbury". Island Tug & Barge is now history. Its greatest years were the fifties and sixties. The big tugs were initially acquired for the towage of ships to the scrapyards, which was a thriving business in those years. The entered also in deepsea salvage work where both tugs earned their fame. The book tells about the tugs and, of wrecks, of ferocious storms, of tugs riding out typhoon weather the tow still attached. And of the crewmembers of course. The book is a very good read, also to the non-initiated in the business of deep sea salvage. It also has a number of photographs accompanying the text. It is good that this piece of marine history has been published.

With bosses who are "steam-rollers" to neighbors who are "gossips," Parrot takes you on a humorous yet real journey to explore 15 different types of problem personalities that you and I deal with everyday. I have ever used this book for a young adult book study on how to cope with the people we encounter every day. A must have and a must read to survive in the jungles of personal relationships.

There are far too few books for kids about tools. This one is great - well-drawn pictures of each tool and detailed descriptions so that a tool novice like me can answer all the questions my kids might have. This would be a fantastic gift for any kid who's house is undergoing a remodel or large repair.

Circumstances have driven me to economize by doing a bit more manual labor about the house. On bleaker days they have also turned my thoughts toward becoming a wage-earning tradesman, preferably in a field in which unionization and consumer ignorance have driven hourly rates toward those earned by rapacious corporate lawyers. For both of these reasons this volume seemed like a wise investment. It is indeed an admirably thorough introduction to its topic, with illustrations and step-by-step instructions that should render even the most advanced topics comprehensible to a vocational school ninny. A detailed guide to necessary tools, as well as succinct advice on building an electrician's practice are also included. However after hard personal experience I have concluded that those who have virtually no facility with their hands should never, ever attempt to splice a High Energy Discharge tamp to inbound wiring that has even the remotest chance of linking back to the main city grid. Casting a third of Beacon Hill into darkness can generate a certain heady sense of power. However if this feat is accomplished inadvertently, and in the company of a brilliant shower of sparks followed by impenetrable darkness in one's basement, one instead tends to reflect soberly and humbly on one's own mortality.
