Necessary reading
Coincidences? Sure, they happen.
Picture this. I planned a 2500 mile 4-day ride through sUtah, Arizona, and New Mexico. Needed something to read and Ron"s book had just shown up from the publisher, so I threw it in the saddlebag without even opening it.
I finally got to it while parked for the night in a dirty motel in a seedy town in southern Utah. Imagine my surprise when I saw Ron on the cover traveling the same sort of roads I had just been on.
After reading this book, my advice to you is buy it, read it and follow it. If you plan on covering a lot of superslab on your rides, you need this book.
My only complaint (small) is that Dan Kennedy at Whitehorse Press needs to use more color in these books. Some of the scenery in Ron's book deserves to be seen in glorious 4-color.

Dilemmas of managed care -an entertaining read!
Listen folks, if you are a social worker, physician, pharmacist or physical therapist or nurse in hospitial practice, or if you teach one of the health professions, this is a must-read. Although written by health care social workers, the material is relevant to anyone in interdisciplinary (or multidisciplinary) health care pactice. The authors present the experience of a "case", an appealing person whose traumatic accident interrups her career and her marriage. Parallel to this tale, is the saga of the health care team working with her. The reactions of the team to the crises of transitioning to managed care are similar to those of the patient. (Teams experience denial, anger, bargaining, and resistance on their way to adaptation, just like individuals.) It's clever and it has the ring of real life. Although much of the material is written like a novel, the purpose of the book is to instruct; introductory and closing chapters are serious discussions of the history and dilemmas of managed care, with upbeat prescriptions for the future; each chapter includes analysis of the material, questions for discussion, and exercises to bring home the teaching points. I am a faculty person in a graduate school of social work, and our students love it. I read it just for the pleasure of its literary craft and for its insight and information.

extremely helpful, especially for the Midwest US and Canada
Ms. Johnson writes from a Canadian background. The plants and gardens are very adapted to the Midwest, and most could easily be duplicated there. Other areas are represented, but gardeners in the Midwest would benefit the most from using this book. The photos show actual, easily achieveable, garden results. This book might help someone make up their mind whether this is "the look" they will
like in their garden. I hope many people decide they like it, because it is a low-maintenance, environmentally-friendly, water-conserving approach to having the most envied garden on the block!

This is a GREAT text!
As an instructor at a technical college, I'm constantly looking for textbooks that actually teach my students. So many books are just "cookie-cutter" types that merely regurgitate the same exam prep information found in all the others. I needed a textbook that went beyond that.

The A+ Guide to Hardware (and it's companion book, A+ Guide to Software), by Jean Andrews, is that textbook. I'm very happy with it's accuracy and currency and the students actually read it! The text is very understandable and well written. My students are passing the practice exams with flying colors and several have received their A+ Certification as a result of this excellent text.

I highly recommend this text for anyone desiring to understand and pass the A+ Certification exam!

Excellent material!
I have about 13 years of computer experience and have learned quite a bit in my trade. I purchased this book as required material for a college education course and I was amazed at the content. The book assumes you are an average computer user (and if you're viewing this webpage, you probably are) and teaches you exactly how the machine works inside and out, gives diagrams, and explains everything in perfect detail. This book was the best $73.00 investment I've ever made. It covered material I already knew, but taught me many times more material I only wished I knew before I bought it. I also highly recommend the Thomson Course Technology PC Troubleshooting Pocket Guide for Managing and Maintaining Your PC -- Third Edition as a great supplemental book to review whenever you run into computer trouble. I bought my copy for only $19.00.

a bible for anyone interested in repairing instruments
If you are a keen repairer of woodwind instruments or just a player who wants to save a bit of money, this book is a diffinite buy. There are only three books in existance for this field, the second being Brands band Instrument Repair manual. Both of which are as useful as each other.
If you work out the cost of having your instrument fixed over a few years, you will automatically see how much you can learn about your intrument and how much you can save.
I refer to my copy as my bible and i am sure you will with yours in years to come.

The Gun Digest Sporting Rifle Take Down & Reassembly Guide

Author: J. B. Wood
Amazon base price: $19.95

Pleasantly surprised
As a firearms enthusiast, there are times when disassembly is required for cleaning or minor repair. Unfortunately, it is difficult to locate decent documentation for a partciular rifle, beyond the little postage stamp size booklet that comes with the firearm. This is a BIG book.

After buying numerous disassembly books, including the "NRA Firearm Assembly", I can honestly say "Sporting Rifle Take Down and Reassembly" is by far the best.

The book covers 52 common rifles and basic variation of the same, including popular military rifles like: German and Swedish Mausers, 1917 Enfield, 1903 Springfield and the M1. There are Winchesters dating back to classic lever actions, H&R, Colt, Marlin, Rugers, Remingtons, Sakos, Savage, Winchesters and Weatherby's. The book opens on Browning.

Instructions cover complete disassembly, not just field stripping, and all steps are clearly illustrated with quality black and white photography, parts lists and required tools.

With help from this book, and about 15 minutes, I was able to finally reassemble a Nylon 66 from a 20 year old collection of parts in a shoe box. Excellent book.
