In teaching a university seminar on the technical and management aspects of the Year 2000 problem, I found the 1997 book THE YEAR 2000 PROBLEM SOLVER, by Bryce Ragland to be invaluable! Not only is the necessary information complete, the writing is so clear and the organization so lucid that the most distracted and harried student can easily follow and keep up. I am glad to hear that this book is being translated into languages other than English -- Y2K is a global problem, and Mr. Ragland's book will surely help to control it.

Dr. Jone's Year 2000 Software Crisis - Solutions for IBM Legacy Systems is a must have tool for anyone arming themselves for Y2K work for the next few years. The tools on the CD-ROM and cited examples will make your life much easier in dealing with the current crisis.

This book is one of the most comprehensive on the market covering most topics you will need in your Y2K endeavor. Thanks Kieth for opening my eyes on a few of the topics you covered..

This book arms one with both the methodology and the tools needed for completing a Y2K project successfully. The comprehensive reviews of the leading tools is a big plus. Also, the features you should look for in a particular tool category are documented, making tool selection easy. I found the cost estimation models particularly useful. In short a must-buy for Y2Kers !

This book is a must for the telephone professional or for anyone who is considering a career in telecommunications. Brandow supplies concise information concerning standards that are necessary for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems. He provides a wealth of advice gained by many years of hands-on experience. Telecommunications is a field that has experienced tremendous growth and this book serves to fill both the needs of the newcomer to the field, as well as the experienced professional.

What disappoints me is that there isn't a new one of these. In my youth, this book absolutely captivated me, from the pictures and step-by-step compares, to all the drive systems and parts that were used on race cars that slowly trickled their way into the street-legal variety. An updated version of this would give us a fantastic glimpse into the next 20 years of car technology (car manufacturers are so slow :)

My husband didn't like "the work" of wading through the information his company provided when it came to choosing a health plan, so he left the decision to me. I was overwhelmed by the information and jargon in the company packet so I was desperate for help in sorting through it. This book was the answer to my prayers. It provides the most thorough, objective information on managed care I've found without resorting to the scare tactics in most other books or articles on the subject that I've read. It really helped me understand what I was doing in choosing from the options given to us by my husband's employer. The section on comparing benefits was especially a great help. I highly recommend this book to anyone who plans to join an HMO and wants to make a good choice; or even to those who already belong to one who want to understand their plan better.

As the owner of a small architectural practice that does many additions, I see this book as an excellent (and very affordable) sourcebook for residential additions. This book brings together twenty-five projects that have been featured in Fine Homebuilding magazine over the past five years. The additions range in scale form major complete home makeovers to small additions/remodelings such as adding a portico to a Georgian Colonial home. The projects are classified in terms of "Adding Up, Adding on the Side, Adding On, and Adding Out.

These projects are mostly what I term "Seamless" additions, meaning that the addition/makeover/remodeling is done in a manner to create a seamless (oftentimes altogether new) building. Most of the projects featured are architect designed and all display a fine level of craftsmanship and inginuity that one expects from Fine Homebuilding Magazine. It is interesting to compare this book with James Grayson Truelove's book "New American Additions and Remodelings". Truelove's book, which I also highly recommend, features more avante garde, object-like projects, many by noted young architects.

This is a paperback book and the articles are have been very nicely repackaged. Whether you are an architect, contractor, or homeowner, I highly recommend this book.
