Great book!I am very impressed
We have already adopted Schmidt's 2nd edition for use with my class at Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA, and I am very impressed with it. I like the updated information and the addition of some review questions in Chp 6 on Troubleshooting. The end of the chapter exercises make preparing classroom activities much easier.
What a joy to have found this book.
I own every book, it seems, on computer repair. At last, I have found a book that is well written and easy to understand. Ms. Schmidt's explanations are straight forward and well illustrated. What a joy to have found this book.
Great book! this book will enable me to better instruct my students because the labs/exercises will save me many hours fine tuning labs that I have prepared. Other instructors in the same boat know how very difficult and time consuming it is to prepare and test lab exercises, and, be successful in ensuring that labs provide a positive learning experience. The chapter reviews and tests are reinforcement and well written and cover all important topics. I feel overwhelmed knowing that, finally, I will have such an excellent instructional computer book for my students. Please share my thoughts and thanks to Cheryl A. Schmidt. I like this book. Explanations are easy to understand., September 29, 1998

This is the only book my teacher assigned and I think it is very good. It's easy to understand and the lab exercises are good, too

There is not to much to say because the text explains it all. For those of you who have taken a class that requires this book you know what I'm talking about. Not only have I had the pleasure of owning this valuble textbook, I have also had the privilege of being a former student of Cheryl Schmidt's here at FCCJ in Jacksonville, FL.
Ms. Schmidt is one of the finest instructors I've ever had the honor of learning from. The one theme that runs through out her textbook as well as her classes is, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, ......ALWAYS READ THE DOCUMENTATION.
Thank you Cheryl!
One of the BEST A+ books around hands downWhich brings me to yet another aspect of this book I really liked. It has added emphasis on troubleshooting. I have a lot of A+ books - all the standard ones most people find in bookstores and none of them focus on troubleshooting to the degree this one does. Again it makes sense since this book is supposed to be a textbook for courses that help people get a job as a PC repair tech. People bring in their computers because something isn't working correctly, right? So troubleshooting becomes an essential skill. I recognized a lot of the troubleshooting techniques I use on my job and several new ones I didn't.
Hardware and Operating Systems are given in-depth coverage. Probably far more than you would ever be tested on. For the OS portion of the test everything from DOS/Win 3.1, Win95, Win98/ME, NT, 2000/XP is examined. Even things that A+ doesn't really focus on anymore are given good coverage. Mainly because on the job you'll likely face situations where it's good to know for troubleshooting older systems.
The one thing that this book doesn't have that most other A+ books do is a cd with practice test questions. However, there a plenty of websites available that let you take practice exams (or you could just buy practice exam software separately). The other downside is that since it is a college textbook the answers to the questions are not given (they're probably in the instructor's version of this book).
In a market full of A+ books studying any one of them thoroughly will be enough to pass. But if you want something that will help you on a job too - well, you can't go wrong with this one.

Tremendous Resource
Great Self-Help Guide to Repairing PC Hardware ProblemsBUT if you want to solve your computer hardware problems without spending alot of time and money ($$)+ aggravation, BUY THIS BOOK and keep it handy because its troubleshooting and resolution methods are applicable to any PC!
Computer books are pretty boring, so why waste any more time than you have to reading one??
With Computer Repair with Diagnostic Flow Charts all you have to do is pick it up and be directed quickly by following arrows and decision points to the solution of your hardware related problem.
If your problem is in the software i.e., the computer turns on but acts funny, GOOD LUCK! - fix that first and then use this book.

Corvette by the Numbers...a must read for CorvettersThe book begins with a very interesting explanation by author Colvin of how he got started in the business of doing parts ID books, how the Chevrolet parts numbering system worked in the '55-'82 period, how he conducted his extensive research of Chevrolet and General Motors archives, information on how to use the book and his of views on the state of the restoration hobby. In that last section you get Colvin's wry observation, "Knowledge is the ultimate weapon against counterfeit Chevrolet muscle cars." The author's expansion on that thought is well worth reading.
From there, you get more information on Corvette powertrain parts than most people will ever need. Each part type gets a chapter, from engine blocks to rear axles. Want to know information as seemingly trivial as specifications of different harmonic dampers? It's in this book. There is even a chapter for coolant and heater hoses along with chapters on non-powertrain items such as Delco radios and Libbey-Owens-Ford (LOF) glass.
I became aware of this book through my use of Alan Colvin's outstanding four-book series, "Chevrolet by the Numbers" which documents Chevrolet passenger car V8 powertrain parts used from the 1955 through the 1975 model year. This new book continues that good research and outstanding detail of those books but carries the depth to near extreme by devoting one book to a single model rather than all models.
Oh yeah, there are a few small errors, which seems typical of Bentley Publishing's books of late but, in this case, considering the size of the book, the huge amount of information inside and the low frequency of errors, this is a minor problem. For example: in the chapter on carburetors, the text refers to the Rochester E4ME "electronic Quadrajet" being used on 1981 Corvettes but neglects to note that the same carb was also used on somewhat rare, 1980 California Corvettes with the 305-cuin., LG4 engine. Also, an accompanying chart lists the '81s and the '80 CA cars as using the M4MC when in fact it was the E4ME. The chapter on exhaust manifolds claims Corvettes from '81 to present use stainless steel rather than cast iron as the manifolds' material. That is not correct. From '81-'91 everything was stainless, but from '92-'96, Vette engines, other than the LT5, used cast iron manifolds. From '97-'00 it was back to stainless, but for '01, GM once again switched to cast iron which Corvette has used up to now and will use at least until the end of the '04 model year. Other than a few small errors like this, the book's information is dependably accurate.
"Corvette by the Numbers" is well-researched, easy to read and has a generous amount of illustrations and photos. It has quickly earned a spot on the top shelf of my Vette book case where I keep frequently used reference material. Anyone needing a high-quality textbook on Corvette powertrain parts identification should buy this book. It's well-worth the price.
Best corvette book on the market
