A Must Have
Of all the home repair books I have read or purchased, this is by far the best. The repairs are practical and useful as well as easily explained. Having this book in the house makes for an easy referance either before, during or after a repair situation!

the great master book
I don't know how good this book is,but if i can get my hands on it,i can believe it is a life saver, when it comes to repair something for your house or just want to learn some information on just about everything. This book probally does not contains all of the great ideas on house repairs, but it could give you or someone else some advice on "how to " .some kind of common things that would be great for just beginners. If it turns out to be good then one day or couple of months there might be another section to this book, and could be call,"the second edition of your house repairs" or anything that becomes to the second on the ideas on the first book.

Great but beginning to need update
This book is worth far more than is charged for it. Very well written. Probably the most-used reference book in my shop. However, it is beginning to need an update to keep up with most of the latest BIOS versions. Still a great value as the feature explainations trigger your thinking and allow you to figure out many related BIOS features in some of the newer versions. When Phil updates it again, I will buy it again.

A superb book
For those who need or want to fine tune, or simply understand, the basic and advanced features of their PC's BIOS, this book is an invaluable guide. It has a very broad range and covers both fundamental and more advanced topics as well as issues specific to particular bios types ( AMI, PHOENIX, etc. ) and versions. This is one book you need to have as a PC technician and a valuable resource for trouble shooting and configuring your personal PC even if your not.

Be sure!
I made the mistake of purchasing this book because I was curious about Baltek products and how to use them. I think you can get that kind of information for free elsewhere (on the web or from Baltek).

HOWEVER, if you will be building a boat out of that materal, and you are sure of it, it appeared to be a very thorough explanation of the subject, and is likely a reference such a builder would really need to make the most of this material.

Great book on a time-saving process.
This book fully explains the Baltek method of boat building. The method is a real time saver over standard cold-molded planking methods and it results in a stronger hull. The method allows for construction of all hull shapes using ordinary tools. Check this out if you are considering new methods for boatbuilding.`

Awesome !Very vital to becoming computer literate !!!
I have been reading Aubrey Pilgrim's Save a Bundle series for some time (How to Build a PC and Save a Bundle to this one!) now... It has helped me to understand PC's, not to be "afraid" of them, and to pursue a career in working with them.. I also got his Build your Own Lan and Save a Bundle! Extremely good advice with cautions where needed! I go to his books when I want to make upgrades or even considering whether to really purchase a new PC screamer or upgrade my BABY! (smile) Aubrey-you are doing the WORLD a great service!!! Can you put out a book on how to build a Server and Save a Bundle? I would be the FIRST in LINE!!!! This review about this book comes with my HIGHEST recommendation!!!

One of the best guides I've ever read.
Build your own Pentium Processor PC is probably one of the best guides in PC asssembly I have ever read. I am a novice at building PCs, even though I've been using one for years. I learned all the fundimentals from this book and I would highly recommend it to all beginners, interested in saving a bundle.

The Best Book on Design and Construction of Decks
I've been researching decks and screen porches for the last few months, with the intention of building a 16'X 34' elevated deck and screen porch on my home in Southern CT. I've done many home construction project big and small; however, I'm not in the construction business. Scott Schuttner's Build Like a Pro book on decks, is by far the best book on decks, period. It is clearly superior to the other books I've read on the subject (and I've purchase over four of them and flipped through a lot more). This one was really the only one I need to buy; unfortunately, I came across it after studying the other books and still not feeling that I had a full understanding on deck construction and design options. Schuttner's book lives up to its opening dedication: "...to all those who desire to do the best they can."

I though this book was significantly superior to other books in the following ways: 1) Excellent descriptive text and photo detail. 2) The "Pro Tips" were enlightening. 3) The comments made about the style and appearance of deck were very helpful. It discusses what aspect of the deck are the better place to spend your money. For example, is it better to spend more to install a unique floor pattern or on the railing detail? The book is loaded with insightful design and construction stuff. For example, the different choices of railing design and appearance. Other books had one or two railing designs the Build Like A Pro book had several. These somewhat subjective but important insights weren't touched upon in the other books. 4) The scope of this book was much broader than other books, while also being more detailed and insightful. >From the planning / drawing, the footing, framing, decking, on through to the finishing, this book does it all in presentation and language that even a non construction person can follow.

The other books I've read were Ok for an easy low frills deck. Those books could also help a homeowner talk to a contract about having a basic deck built. However, this book was much better in those areas, plus provided a great deal more insight for the person actually designing and constructing (workin' da tools), a higher value added / better looking deck. If I could change things, I would have purchased only this book. It's no more expensive than the others and a lot better.

In summary, I believe this is a FIVE STAR book and a must have for those planning and building a deck. My only regret is that the author, Scott Schuttner, obviously a very experienced builder, didn't write additional chapters or another book simply devoted to screen porches. But heck, lets be fair, this book is all about decks from A to Z. OUTSTANDING BOOK!!

... Thanks

Very good reference for part numbers and options packages.
This book provides a very complete and easily used reference on Camaro part numbers, options packages, and tips for show-quality restorations. It greatly aids planning on a "real" restoration (that is, returning the car to its original factory condition), providing enough information to identify virtually every part in the car. For example, it provides decoding information for the numeric stamp on Camaro transimissions (which is otherwise unintelligible). It also provides a large number of B&W photos and diagrams of parts and assemblies. The book is limited to 1st generation (1967-1969) Camaros, but is suprisingly thick despite this fact, at 288 8.5"x11" pages.

What this book is not so good for is the actual restoration work; if you're looking for a guide on how to repair body panels and reupholster seats interior, look to Tom Carrao & Ron Sessions' "Camaro Restoration Handbook". As a reference for planning your restoration, however, I feel that this book would be very difficult to beat. It is a very good place to start learning about auto restoration, and you'll find yourself turning to it again and again as the work proceeds.

Car Maintenance, Explosives and Love: And Other Contemporary Lesbian Writings

American lesbians should all be looking further west and south, if this Australian anthology is any indication of the overall quality of lesbian writing Down Under. The title is drawn from a dramatic monologue by Donna Jackson in which a lesbian mechanic praises cars for their simplicity (compared with the greasy mess of relationships). One of the strengths of this collection is its comprehensiveness; without sacrificing a certain wildness that must have been one of the editorial requirements, it includes works from several genres, and from writers of all backgrounds and ages. The best story may be Susan Sayer's odd family history, "Xanthippe," a cross between the fiction of Angela Carter and Kathryn Davis, with its startling images (her father is described as being "as long-tongued as Granny, and she could lick her own eye") and rude, playful language. Even the less successful pieces here give the sense of being starting points for stronger work rather than dead ends. It's an unusually impressive collection, full of experiment and promise. --Regina Marler

Lesbian Feminist Writing
What a terrific collection. Donna Jackson's play car maintenance, explosives and love was one of my favorites. The students also found a lot in this play to challenge contemporary gender stereotypes. I was also fortunate to hear Ursula Dawkins read her piece cycles per second which appealed greatly. Wonderful work! Very engaging! Congratulations

absolutely fabulous
I must say that this is simply one of the best things I have read all year. Something in it for everyone. I must point out that i found the main attraction to be Susan Sayers absolutley divine piece toward the end of the book. Go look it up for yourself when you read the book.

If you are a clever chops you will know exactly what I mean. If not too bad.

Bye Bye

Carburetor Performance
I have been around cars for more than fourty years,This book was still a great learning Tool.
Clearly written and detailed,Linked up a lot of pieces of Information I had.And put it in order

Excellent treatment of the subject
I received my copy of this book last night. Although I have only read the first 25 pages, they are excellent and I now understand the principles of carburetion much better than before.

I have previously spent quite a bit of time studying Pat Braden's book on Weber Carburetors, which is a good book specific to Webers. However, Aird's book (to me) provides a much clearer explanation as to the principles involved. Aird is especially helpful in his passages about how and why the air correction jets and emulsion tubes work and how they interact with each other and the main circuit.

As a novice trying to understand and tune my Webers, I'd still buy both books, but I would rely primarily on Aird for comprehension of why the darn things work the way they do.

I feel like a nerd getting excited about a carburetion book, but hey, epiphanies are where you find them.

Excellent resource
This is an outstanding book. It is well written, well organized, has excellent graphics and pictures, and serves a much needed role in most woodshops. White would have been a great engineer. His jigs and measurement techniques are clever, well documented, and easy to make and use. I found myself smiling several times at the ingenuity of his low-cost (and effective!) solutions to high-cost measurement tools. I have a middle-of-the-road chinese knock off table saw that wasn't cutting well (burns and lots of resistance). I made the jigs and went through the tune up procedure in an evening, and the saw performs much better afterwards.

I would like have heard White's recommendations for storage, cleaning, and top protection (e.g., waxing vs. oiling ground surfaces), as well as his tips and comments for shop safety, but they are justifiably outside the scope of this book.

Overall an excellent book that I am very glad to have stumbled upon.

Great book for tool tune-ups and alignment
I've been having some problems getting my jointer tables aligned properly, and happened upon this book by accident. What luck! This book is full of great info on tune-ups and alignment. John White goes in depth into the set up and alignment of primary power tools (jointer, planer, table saw, bandsaw, router table, drill press and miter saw). His writing is clear, easy to understand and follow, with plenty of very descriptive pictures. The book is very complete on each of the tools covered. I truly appreciated that he used many shop-built jigs and common tools to get things done.

A must have entry in your vintage Chevy reference library!
This book has turned out to be a great reference guide for me, most importantly with the extensive part number/cast number information covering all major powertrain components. It's the perfect mate to a vintage parts book and factory assembly manual.

There are some inaccuracies here and there, nothing that a double check against other references and more reviewers would cure in a 2nd ed.

Many of the chapters include some "filler" material not directly applicable to parts of the fifties, mostly sixties material probably from the authors other earlier books, but it is accurate and informational none the less.

If there's ever a 2nd edition, I'd like to see more "meat" in the crankshaft and piston chapters, rewrite of the wheels chapter, addition of fuel injection intake adapters to the intake manifold chapter for completeness, more Turboglide information, deletion of some non-applicable filler info, and more photos of actual parts throughout. You can never have too many photos.

It is great to see my book on your current list! Thanks!
