Maintenance

I found "Web Servers, Security, & Maintenance" absolutely amazing. For so long I have been looking for the perfect book to tell me all about servers, how servers work, how to operate servers, buying criteria, and so forth. This book is probably the best introductory book to servers out there! Even if you don't have a server but are looking forward to setting up a server in the future, this book is excellent.

I must mention that I am only a teen looking to be one of many computer-geeky hopefuls. If you're like me - you know HTML, Perl, Macs, PCs - and you want to get even more advanced, this book is perfect.

There is hardly anything that tells you how to write HTML or Perl, so if you already know these languages, there is no waste of pages in this book.

Overall, I gave this book five stars because it's complete, VERY easy to understand, very well written, detailed, and so on. If you would like to be a teen-webmaster-geeky-computer-hopeful, you must save up money for this book!

This book is an exceptional example of the way Internet technical volumes should be written. As a director of e-Business at my firm I highly recommend this book to all of my practicioners. Superbly written with real world examples it is a must have for your technical library.

This is the closest thing to a Pilot's Operating Handbook for Champs and Chiefs. Pilot's and A&Ps at Cordova Air Service (including the one I'm buying a 7DC-Conv from) were impressed! The National Aeronca Association (aeroncapilots.com) has similar information, but it is scattered through the discussion groups, and more difficult to find well-supported information on fuel and additives, oil system maintenance, and other subjects, as presented in this book. This will travel in the seat pouch behind me as I learn to fly!

This is the bible for all Aeronca seven and eleven series enthusiasts .It was out of print until I, Charlies' grandson, decided to introduce his publication to Amazon. This guys really been around the block; a real soothsayer. They don't call him the Guru at Osh-Kosh for nothing.

As an old time "car nut" I must say this is the best example of
reference material available today. The photography is absolutely first rate. I highly recommend this to all
"gear heads" out there.

There was a time when the American male was a lot more involved with his automobile. In the old days, when cars, like life, were a lot simpler, men would not only perform their own repairs, they would personalize their vehicles to set them apart from their neighbor's cars. Utilizing sheetmetal, lead, and parts from other cars, they would lower and lengthen their cars sometimes until they were unrecognizable from what they started from.

The custom car era was not that long, but there are many chapters. So many players, so many cars, that any sort of attempt to really cover the bases is difficult at best. Not to mention that many of the pioneers of the field are either getting up there in age, or have passed on to that great custom shop in the sky.

Fortunately for us, we have Pat Ganahl. Pat has been around long enough to have met many of the important people involved.
Pat is not only a writer's writer, more importantly, he is a reader's writer. A professional in every sense of the word, Pat Ganahl not only can make you understand what he's writing about, he can even make the most technical subject INTERESTING.

Of course, this book would be interesting anyway, but Pat's knowledge and passion for the subject really shine here. As former editor of Street Rodder, Hot Rod, Rod & Custom, and former cohort of the excellent Rodder's Journal, Pat is not only infinitely qualified to discuss the subject, he also demonstrates great taste. You could hardly find a better curator for this museum between two covers.

The cars and people Pat discusses here are of great historical relevance. From the beginnings back in the 30's with the great coach builders, to Harry Westergard, the Barris brothers, and Ed Roth, on up to the modern customizers like Boyd Coddington, Pat Ganahl takes you on the tour, and shows you how we got where we are today.

This book is loaded with great color and black & white photos of classic customs (Kustoms?), such as the Hirohata Merc, and the Rod & Custom Dream Truck, leading up to modern day customs, like the ZZ-Top Cadzilla. Not only are there vintage photos, but Pat has even seen fit to include a "Where are they now" section, so we can see how some of the survivors look today, thanks in no small part to keepers of the flame like Kurt McCormick, who painstaking restore and preserve these pieces of rolling history.

While the history and state of the American Custom Car goes well beyond the scope of this book (Hey, you only get so many pages to work with!), you'd find it pretty difficult to top this veritable treasure trove, without going out and spending thousands of dollars on vintage magazines. (Which you may find yourself doing anyway, as this book will surely stir up your interest!)

I found this book very informative. It's very usefull in the selection of aftermarket parts and what they will achieve.

I was pleased to see that the Twin Cam owner is finally getting some material for maintaining and modifying his bike, too. While much of the literature written for Evolution engines is also applicable to the Twin Cam, there are enough differences (e.g., camshafts) to warrant separate treatment. Bravo for including enough specifics on the Twin Cam to make it stand out from the crowd!

This is a well-written and information-packed book which is sure to be of interest to anyone wanting to understand the workings of the Evolution or Twin Cam engine of their Harley-Davidson motorcycle. And, for someone like me who wants to actually do most of the work myself, you make it all that much more feasible.

I feel this is certainly a worthwhile, long-term addition to my Harley library.

The electrical A6 book really helped me pass the exam. It was worth every cent. I only wish I found these before I took the other ASE exams. It would have made things a lot easier for me.

This book is very informative. If you are training for a career in autoglass replacement, you need to grab a copy of this manual.

It is a really easy-to-understand book that will keep you from making costly mistakes.

Goodheart and Willcox are, convincingly, experts in auto technology as well as excellent writers and illustrators. As a certified master auto and truck technician, I often refer my customers to this book for straightforward understandable explanations of the goings on under the hood. When my customer understands how a system operates, he or she is more willing to accept a diagnosis, because it makes sense and the black magic attitude is gone. The automotive encyclopedia has been available since the 70's and each addition is packed with the latest developments that the car manufactures employ to make cars more, fun, economical, and, necessarily, more complex. Goodheart and Willcox are to be congratulated on this and past editions of this wonderful reference guide. Just wonderful.

This is a most comprehensive history of Bentley, the company and the cars. Unique here are the insights into the inner workings of the company provided by the author's extensive research.

The focus is on racing, which was the lifeblood of Bentley. Business and financial details, engineering, design and marketing are also extensively covered.

The book is profusely illustrated with original black and white photos, engineering drawings, blueprints, cutaways and racing scenes. There is also a beautiful section of color plates.

For the Bentley enthusiast this book is an essential. The organization is superb and the depth of coverage is excellent. It is a true delight.

This is it. If you are researching a prewar Bentley, you must have this one. It lists all chassis numbers and first owners. Many very good photos.

Tom and Ray Magliozzi (aka Click and Clack) are classic examples of the fact that NPR and talk radio can't always be easily categorized. While most NPR stations spend the majority of their time playing classical music, every Saturday morning Bach gets pushed to the side for a heavy of Click and Clack. And while most talk radio hosts seem to take themselves way too seriously, Tom and Ray never let anyone (including themselves) get away with anything. If you or someone you know has never heard "Car Talk", get ahold of these tapes. You'll be laughing before you know it!

If you are new to Car Talk, this tape is a neccessity. Even if you have been listening for years, you may not have heard some of these calls. And if you never have listened to Car Talk, shame on you! The funniest thing on radio is also the funniest thing on tape, and I have found that when Tom and Ray are on my stereo, I can not be in a bad mood. The price is worth the reduction in therapy bills alone!

This book is full of pictures of unusual and beautiful gardens all very different from one another. I especially enjoyed seeing the variety of what is possible. The text focuses mainly on design with discussion on style and analysis of what works and why. Although I think Keith Davitt's first book "Small Spaces Beautiful Gardens" was a superior book with more information on how each garden was created and before & after pictures, I still highly recommend this book for its many examples and design tips.
