Perfect for my Spanish Employees
Kevin,

Well done! I just got through it on a plane yesterday. I love the photos and the info. It is exactly what we need. My Spanish employees also agreed. I will read it again and again.

Best of Luck,
Mark Chisholm, TopClimb

Everything you need to know about chainsaws
This book is filled with really useful information on how to safely use and maintain your chain saw. Lots of good color photos make it easy to understand the safe way to handle a chain saw. I learned a lot of maintenance tips that will make my saw last a lot longer and save big $$$ over the years.
I recommend this book for both professional users and homeowners as well.

Must have book!
What a great book. With really lots and lots of easy to follow pictures and clear straight forward text. If you work with chain saws, you simply must have this book - at least if you want to be safe.

A pionneer of stitch-and-glue tells all
The stitch-and-glue technique was pioneered by builders of small boats, so it's not surprising that most boatbuilders think of it as a technique appropriate only for small boats. But Sam Devlin has been building large boats for many years with stitch and glue, and in this books shows why it's an appropriate technique for any size boat.

Traditional plywood boatbuilding doesn't really take advantage of the structural properties of plywood, argues Devlin; if you build a frame and then cover it with sheets of plywood in the same way you'd plank with boards, you're not really gaining much other than the convenience of the larger sheets. You're still using the same techniques of a century ago.

Stitch and glue allows the builder to make strong frameless monococque structures in which the entire skin, and not just the frames, carries the load. Such structures are much lighter and stiffer than traditional framed structures. Aircraft builders have been using monococques since the 1930s, and automobiles have been built using monocoque ("unibody") construction since the 1960s.

Devlin assumes the reader of this book knows a little about boats, but nothing about stitch and glue construction. He provides excellent detail on the tools, techniques and materials needed, as well as numerous photos and a number of designs.

Whether you're planning to build a 7' pram or a 30' cruiser, there's much useful information here. Even if you already have one of Dynamite Payson's "Instant Boats" books or Chris Kulczycki's "The Kayak Shop" you'll want a copy of this book as well.

Excellent source of boat building instruction and motivation
As a person looking to choose a boat building method, I found Sam Devlin's book extremely interesting. After reading his book, I felt confident that I could tackle such a project and was inspired by his personal love of the craft. As a matter of fact I purchased some of his plans and found Sam and his wife to be extremely friendly and helpful!

A must for every boatbuilder
This is a great book. Every aspect of stitch and glue boatbuilding is covered in great detail, from shop practice to lofting, assembling and finishing the boat. The style is plain and enjoyable and the drawings are excellent. The author's love for boats, fine materials and good workmanship is evident in every page. I found just a few minor issues. First, the quality of the photographs is questionable. Moreover, from the builders' perspective, some more hints and suggestions on how to use power tools to cut sheet plywood, as well as a more in-depth discussion on epoxy-sealing the hull, would have been useful. Apart from those points, the book is excellent and should be in every boatbuilder's bookshelf.

As a home repair columnist and a handyman myself, this book has been in my reference library since it was first published in 1995. Clear, well-organized, well-indexed, filled with useful illustrations and diagrams, this is a great book for anyone interested in learning about how to maintain their home, keep appliances running, and fix many things they might never have imagined they could. You will recoup the cost of this book the first time you don't have to call in a pro for a simple home repair!

Ten Thumbs Up!
When it comes to home repairs, I am all thumbs. I've had leaky faucets and toilets for years. Patching drywall, fixing locks, and replacing glass in windows used to require a call for professional help. Until I bought this book. It contains easy to follow, step by step directions with terrific pictures. I've saved hundreds of dollars since purchasing it. Simply terrific!

Get this book and never loan it out!
I'm on my fourth copy of this book. Mine tend to vanish like the morning dew juat as my neighbors begin their spring garage cleanup. . . My bro-in-law has one as well, but he insists that the fact that my name is written in indelible SHARPIE marker on the front is just a tribute to me and my helpful nature. . . This book has more helpful hints in introduction than most do in the first 5 chapters. And it just goes on and aon and on!

With actual real life applications for stuff you'll find lying around your garage (from old buckets to wire to old useless hose), this book is a true boon for anyone looking to clean up their act (and their garage) and make the time they have to spend on projects less of a fight to just keep the cords straight!

I highly recommend this book for anyone that knows they own at least 4 tape measures, but can't find one to save their lives!

Well worth the cost, and as well constructed as the book is, it will last a lifetime!

Readers Digest Helpful Hints
I recieved my first Readers Digest Helpful Hints five years ago.

I was so impressed, I got copies for my two sons and son-in-law.

It is something I would not want to be without.

It really does have helpful hints found nowhere else.

I thank you for Readers Digest Helpful Hints.

The Best Book out there for "the old ways"
I found a copy at a garage sale, took it home to my husband.
In the process of moving, changing jobs, we had to once give up all our stuff, including this book.

Now that we want the self reliant country lifestyle on a 5-40 acre farm, we can't find another book like it in the world. And my husband won't settle for anything less. He's read other self reliant books, but ..."Nothing is like that Gene Logsdon
book you bought me"....he says.

A wealth of information. Good information on building fences, gates in unique and interesting ways. Much foregotten information, you will hardly find elsewhere.

Rhonda Thomas,
hopeful homsteader

Super information in a very readable format
Gene Logsdon's book is my all-time favorite useful title, with plenty of pictures and simple descriptions of the skills. When we moved "back to the farm" (actually, we'd been raised in Los Angeles, and were just starting out in a self-sufficient life-style), this book was literally a lifesaver. We're building a privy now, using some Logsdon ideas -- I can't thank this guy enough!

Common Sense Everyday Skills For Survival
If you want a book to help you through tough times cheaply, this is it! An emergency situation may cause books such as this one to be a life saver. You can find it on Bibliofind & other online used book shops.

Covers:

1. Maintaining & Repairing House Items

2. Home Comfort: Buying a Wood Stove; Getting the most heat from fireplaces; Running Water. The Hydrolic Ram.

3. Making and Making Do

4. Food Prep: Milk from the cow to the fridge; Homemade Butter, Butchering a chicken, Hog Butchering, Practical Wild Foods.

5. Yard & Garden: Things To Build & Maintain

A Practical Privy, Septic Tank principals, cistern, dry stone walls & fences, building Icehouse Coolers, A Wood heated fruit dryer (dehydrator) Garden Skills: Hoemanship, Low Cost Hothouse frame, Homemade bug fighters.

6. Around The Barn: Basic Construction & Livestock Tips.

7. On The Land: In The Fields: A Farm is a large garden OR a garden is a small farm. Tools for small Time gardens.

(NOTE: I just hit the "basics of this book.) I have used several of his ideas: One was how to keep a mile long gravel road from "washing" out using a gravel trench type drain with 2 railroad ties filled with loose rock.

I weigh 100 lbs. soaking wet, am a female, & can honestly say this book is high on my list for learning practical skills! CJ

A must-have!
This books is the definitive work about hard disks. It explains everything about all kinds of hard disks. Besides that, it also explains details of SCSI devices and RAID. It has a large database with jumper settings and configuration details of hundreds of hard disks, wich is very helpful to technicians. It comes with a CD-ROM full of very usefull utilities.

I recommend it!
This books explains all you want to know about hard disk, including lots of information on jumper settings and hard disk CMOS parameters.

Incredibly helpful for people who must install hard drives
This is the most useful source I have for hard drive jumper settings, CMOS settings, etc. I have three previous editions, and wouldn't part with any of them. I do computer support for a large academic department of a university, and encounter a wide range of drives, adapters, computers, etc. These books have saved me a lot of time, blood, sweat and tears.

A great introduction to heavy-duty truck systems
We used this book in our diesel technician class. The book gives you an excellent introduction to every aspect of a heavy-duty truck. I usually shy away from books written by more than one author because of lack of continuity or overcoverage in certain areas. In the case of this book, the authors have done a fantasic job of explaining the topics without any assumptions. The book does a good job in covering cluthes, standard transmission, torque converters, drive shafts, axles, and automatic transmissions. On the subject of brakes, I recommend Delmar's "Today's Technician: Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Brakes." If your thinking of buying a book on this subject matter, you can't go wrong with this selection. Be aware that a third edition has been released.

Home Sweet Home: A Homeowner's Journal and Project Planner
Published in Hardcover by Andrews McMeel Publishing (June, 1995)
Author: Mary Engelbreit
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $2.98
Average review score:

Be Aware
Be aware that the reviews refer to the "Home Sweet Home" journal and project planner by Mary Engelbreit and not the organizer alone. The organizer is basically an accordion file that is meant to be used as a supplement to the journal. It is very nice but it's sort of like have a nice digital camera bag without the camera.

A Must For Every Homeowner
This is a beautiful book and a brilliant idea! Keep track of all sorts of information about your home for future reference. Paint colors, service dates, window sizes, installer names, etc.

Great for new home builders or home renovators!
My husband and I purchased a house built in 1915 last year, and the journal came in handy during the renovations. It kept me organized with spaces to write the room dimensions and layout, a place to keep wallpaper and fabric samples, and the phone numbers of the plumber, electrician, etc. It keeps all the manufacturer's info in one place--just in case you need to replace or repair in the future. I use mine as a brag book to keep around the house for my guests to see the before and after pictures. Makes a nice housewarming present too!
