This was a excellent book to help one understand a relationship with God. Simple down to earth honesty that shows the giving up of oneself in sharing the events in his family. It moves one beyond self and one can feel his breath and heartbeat as he writes. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in strengthen their relationship with their God and savior Jesus Christ. "It gives a vision and importance of the dust particles of life." Praise the Lord for such writing.

I really loved this book. It took me back to the days when my relationship with God was brand new. After 25 years, walking with God can become routine. This book inspired me to deeper prayer and bible study, and a greater appreciation of who God is and how special it can be to walk closely with Him. We get so busy, and often let our time with God become flat. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be more like Jesus, especially those who are new Christians, seekers, or "old fogeys" like me who need to be re-energized. It was both inspiring and practical.

This is small book and an easy read. However, do not be misled by the size--it is packed full of practical information that can lead you closer to God. If you find yourself at a loss on how to connect with your Creator, this book will set you in the right direction. Basic outlining of how to fast, how to study God's Word, and how to pray, how to worship God are the subjects covered. Each is covered thoroughly in concise and understandable language.

When it comes to Books on building a relationship with God Be Still My Soul gets 5 stars. I've found many books pn thid subject give so much informaition that the heart of the matter gets lost behind the words. In Be Still My Soul Sam Laing invites the reader in to his personal walk with God, sharing his victories and struggles while offering much practical guidance. This book helped me while going through a very tough time spiritually. Be Still My Soul is a great book for new Christians and Old timers. I highly recommend it!

In this poetry picture book, Shapiro takes 26 famous English and American poems and transforms them into fresh and fun verse for children. Elizabeth Barrett Browning's 'How Do I Love Thee?' becomes 'How Do I Love Ketchup? Let Me Count the Ways.' Joyce Kilmer's 'Trees,' becomes 'Me': 'I think that I will never see, / another person just like me.'

Faulkner's pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations are in perfect tune with the text.

What is so wonderful about this book is that it works on many different levels. It is a winning choice for reading aloud to younger students. Too, teachers can use this in middle and high school classes. We took the book into an eighth-grade Language Arts classroom where we discussed various poetic forms. We read to the students the original poem (such as Kilmer's, 'Trees,') and then Shapiro's version. The students loved it. They then created their own versions of such classics as Robert Burns' 'A Red, Red Rose.'

This book receives our highest recommendation: Suitable for district-wide library acquisitions.

This is a very clever idea, and very well-executed, both in terms of the poems and the illustrations. The parodies of the poems I'm already familiar with are great fun, and the ones I don't know work well on their own -- they're also making me hunt down the originals so I can get more out of them. Although this book is aimed at slightly older kids, our 19-month-old enjoys it, and he'll continue to get more and more out of it as he understands more of it. As will I!

Karen Jo Shapiro has written a charming collection of poems for kids and their parents. Based on classics that adults will recognize, each gives kids the giggles with amusing kid topics like favorite dinners and messy rooms. Clever and fun, this is perfect for cozy "read to me!" bedtime sharing!

This is a terrific book. It's a great read, a marvelous look at the struggles of an artist trying to make a living in the theater, and a must buy for anyone who plans to make the theater his or her life.

This book may seem at first glance like something for a "niche" market -- people in the theater or the like -- but it's actually so entertaining, funny, skillfully written, moving and wonderfully offbeat that it speaks to any reader no matter what their interests. Fife has found a way to resonate with the universal experience of success/failure that we all share while still remaining excrutiatingly personal, honest and true to his own real story - and that's what memoir should do! All students of the theater should read this, but so should all students of life. And if you do, I guarentee it won't feel like "studying"...enjoy!

I know that a book is good when I have to put everything else on hold until I finish it. This one grabbed me right from the beginning. On the very first page I felt as though I was the playwright, experiencing the highs and lows of being accepted, rejected and accepted again as an artist. This book was a lot of fun, full of dry wit and good humor. I especially enjoyed getting the inside track into the world of Broadway and film and finding out from a first-hand source what some of those Oscar-winning superstar actors are REALLY like.

I found a paperback version on sale at a christian bookstore. It was their only and last copy. So I snatched it up. I am very fond of the New King James Version and I love reading it everyday. Each section offers a bit from the O.T. as well as the N.T. Over a year one should have been through the whole Bible. I am still in the process of reading and am very eager to discover a balanced view of who Yaweh and Y'shua really are. Reading Oswald Chamber's viewpoints are inspiring as well. That man obviously loved the Lord with all his heart, soul,mind and strength. I would very much like to find a hardcover version.

Do you want to read the Bible but think you don't have time with your busy schedules? We have read this Bible for several years and each year I think maybe we should read a different one but we always come back to this one. As a couple, we find the message for each day and the mix of Old Testament, New Testament, Proverbs and Psalms an easy way to kick off our day. With a fresh brewed cup of coffee and a dose of age old wisdom, it sets the tone for our whole day. Reading the Bible together and praying together in the mornings before work has changed our marriage. Try reading it with your spouse and hang on for the adventure of a lifetime. The prayer is important too! We are buying 2 more copies for friends and a new hardbound one for us. The old has been used so much it is falling apart! Each time we read it, we learn something new about our situation or relationship.

This is the greatest version I've come across yet. It is easy to do every day, it didn't bog me down in the legalistics of the Old Testament as I always felt when I was just reading the Bible through,and the words of Oswald Chambers are always so meaningful. It is such a blessing!

If you want to get a lot of meaning out of your Bible or just want a devotional book to do each day that only takes about 1/2 hr per day, this book is for you, and the paperback is easy to carry with you.

I have a 21 month old girl and she just loves this book. It is very colorful! She has learned many new words from this book. It covers everything......body parts, clothing, every day activities (dressing, sleeping, bathing), foods, animals, things that are found in the garden, and farm animals. Get this book for your child!!!!

I bought this book for my son who was 6mos and he loves it to this day. The pictures are big, simple, and real. Much better then the Cartoon books like this. The big cardboard pages are easy to turn for little hands and very durable. I would recomend for 0-3 years.

This is a great book for children who are just starting to talk. This is not for 4-8yrs as stated, but 0-3yrs. My son loved to look at the colorful pictures and ask me what they were.

I really enjoyed this book! Nora, the loving aunt/sister in-law/ bookstore owner/loyal friend is a clever sleuth and a charming character. She helps her nephew "Sherlock", the Chief of Detectives, solve several murders involving people she cared about. I really enjoyed the small ,friendly town that is much like my own. Nora's devotion to her family and friends reminded me of my Italian American family, especially her Christmas gathering at her home! The many recipies were an extra treat.
Several student murders occur among the local college student body, many of whom frequent Nora's bookstore/ coffee bar "Leaves of Grass." The cause appears to be drug-related. There are several likely suspects, and the guilty party is not easily identifiable.
This book combines the "cozy mystery" and the realistic, suspenceful drama elements.I thought the black and white photos add a "film noir" flavor and really help to better identify with the characters.Nora is someone I would like to know personally! I hope there will be more books featuring Nora and company.

Reading Tony Vellela's charming mystery was like spending time with an old friend. The story takes place in a college town (and who doesn't remember the complex relationships that are the hallmark of our youth?), filled with interesting, well-drawn characters, comfortably inhabiting the town's skin. The mystery is fun and suspenseful, without the gore of many of today's writers. Mr. Vellela has the light touch of a Mary Higgins Clark. For a good, suspenseful read that takes you back to your youth (or if you're still young, that may mirror your own life now), I recommend that you get a copy. It transported me to a sweet vision of small-town America. It's a wonderfully safe place to live for a while - unless you turn up dead, of course!

I truly enjoyed By Book or by Crook by Tony Vellela. He was able to create for me a believable college town setting, whose routine is shattered by multiple murders. Aunt Nora and nephew Sherlock have to see beyond their familial relationship and work together to solve the crimes, something they both find difficult to accomplish. Nora runs a bookstore cafe, and mothers all her college clientele, while Michael (Sherlock) is the Chief of Detectives of a small town police force. Both the victims and the suspects are regulars at the cafe, so Nora's involvement in solving the crimes is essential. I didn't figure out who did it, but Nora did.

This book is perfect for anyone going through tough times. Not only does it apply to those who have gone through some kind of loss, but just as good for someone going through personal struggles. Very simply but professionally written. Inspirational!

The poems are touching and especially helpful for those that are looking for spiritual growth. Everyone can relate to the feelings in this book. Buy one now!

This book is full of beautiful poems and a wonderful tribute. I found this book to be inspirational.

Wow! This was a wonderful book. It's one of the best books I've read in a while. Wersba's imagination and creativity has hooked me again. The book was realistic and really made me think. Through rough times and fun times you had to read on. The book is about a young boy who's life is turned upside down when he gets on a plane Zurich, Switzerland. The characters are realistic and easy to relate to. The description is fantastic. The story holds an important moral, a moral which I had never thought about before. If you are realistic fiction crazy or if your not, this is a good book. Read this book and you'll be in for an adventure.

I am now 25, but I consider this book to still be one of my absolute favorites. I laughed at Harvey's quips and little-old-man maturity, and cried at his would-be love affair. The writing is flawless, the decriptions of NYC neighborhoods, Harvey's school life, and warped dog-loving mother were all amazing. A true find!

This book was absolutely breath taking. The story begins in Queens NY with a poor teen age boy who can't make one thing go right for him. Through diary entries to his psychiatrist he tells of his journey to Zurich, what happens there and what changes inside of him.
