This book has been a source of inspiration and an aid in reflection for me for years. There is a prayer in the book for just about any situation faced in life both negative and positive. A great buy!

This prayer book is written from a conservative Lutheran perspective, but most of these prayers can be used and appreciated by all evangelicals.

The prayers are worded in modern English, clear, not flowery but reverential. The prayers evidence belief in a Savior Who wants to be known personally. There are several groupings of prayers: morning and evening, Christian living, worship, family life, various occupations, national/international life, sickness, and other categories.

Some of these prayers are adaptable for pulpit use. Great for family devotions and getting out of a rut in ones private life. Sadly, the 235 little pages do not provide a volume of daily prayers. It's a shame this isn't a multi-volume set. We can use more like this! Well done.

Never be without the words to pray. This book has very lengthy and heart-felt prayers for a large number of topics. There are prayers for: the sick, for our country, for holidays like Christmas Eve, for children, for parents, for travelers etc. The list goes on and on and on! It is truly a useful addition to anybody's prayer time. It is also interesting to think that others may be praying the same prayer as you are!

This book was really good and the characters and story really capitavated my attention. The little romance between the main characters is really cute! You should read this book if you like Civil War non-fiction stuff. I hardly ever read anything, but when I started reading this, I couldn't put it down until the very last page! ^_^

Cummings' MY REBEL BELLE is a tender love story with a meticulously researched historical background. Set during the Civil War, it is much more than a historical romance. I was touched and thrilled over and over by the feelings of the Union general for the young rebel woman. But feelings and longings for freedom of the slaves on the plantation are explored as well. All the characters come alive in this book and in so doing, history is transformed into a story as new as tomorrow. I highly recommend this book.

My Rebel Belle is better than Gone With the Wind. Characters are much more realistic and without stereotypes. All of the slaves in the story are portrayed with a great amount of dignity and intelligence. Their importance to the smooth functioning of the plantation home is always emphasized. The struggles that women and slaves faced in maintaining their homes when the men were off to war were very clear. These women struggled valiantly to keep their homes together, and this rescued union officer helped keep this family alive. Every woman who has ever dreamed of rescuing and hiding a handsome Civil War soldier will love this story. There are many interesting and humorous situations that come up throughout the story as the southern women try to conceal the officer's identity. All of the conflicts between an opinionated northern officer and a headstrong southern belle are overcome by the love that grows between them. I highly recommend this book...

I reread the book quite often. When the book came out I was in college so it was weird to see what I had said over 3 years before. It was also interesting to learn things about my friends that (most of the kids in the book i went to high school w/) i never knew. It made me understand them more. I knew Jono from the 6th grade on and he was one of my closest friends, but I never knew he did not know his heritage. I probably should not tell you who I am, so I will give you a hint: I went to Winston-Salem St. U. BUY THE BOOK & give it to your kids. They will see they are not alone. By the way, I am a teacher now.

This book gives a variety of stories of kids their brief history of why their room is like it is.It's like being a fly on the wall.In the sometimes confusing time of being a teenager you realize you are not alone.

"My Room : Teenagers in Their Bedrooms" was a very interesting book. Looking at each teen in their room, looking at the individuals themselves, I would often judge them, as most people judge others in real life. However, quite often, my judgments were wrong: a clean looking teen would turn out to be a recovering drug addict, another teen whiched looked as if he was an atheist, actually was an active church goer, and so on, and so on. The book teaches a good lesson not to judge people by the way they appear, but by their actions, and state of mind. It had some pretty cool pictures, and the book also told of what happened to each teen later in life. Good readin'. Check it out.

When I first heard about this book, I was intrigued. When I first started reading it, I couldn't put it down & read Ms. Friday's others. I wish there were more books on this topic by Ms. Friday. I'm not familiar with womens' sexual thinking, so this book opened my eyes. It was also written in such a way where I could enjoy it when I am alone.

I just wanted to say that I happened upon this book when a friend of mine and I were helping her mom pack for a move. She had the older copy and it was the picture on the front of it that caught our eyes. I borrowed it and read it cover to cover during ever spare moment I had. It took me about a week to finish the whole thing, but WOW! Well, it was amazing and it opened so many doors for me sexually. As an 18 year old virgin by choice (I'm waiting for marriage), I'm always loking for new information. I don't consider myself to be a stereotypicial virgin because I LOVE talking about sex and intimacy with my close friends, but choose to wait for spiritual reasons (not religious). Anyway, I was packing to come to college and my mom was helping me. She found the book! I was Soo embarrassed when I saw it in her hand, but I diecided to play it cool and when she asked, "Jenn, what's this?" I said, "Oh! Mom, It's really great! It's a book about women's sexual fantasies. you should read it." and then I walked out of the room very casually. Let's just say, the next day the book wasn't in the same place ;)Books like this are not the pronography many people make them out to be. Nancy is finally talking about something that made women feel ashamed about for much too long. Tori Amos reaffirms this statement in her song 'Icicle' when she sings "Father said 'bow your head like the good book says'. Well, I think the good book is missing some pages. Gonna lay down. Gonna lay down and when my hand touches myself, I can finally rest my head and when they say take of his body, I think I'll take from mine instead. Getting off, getting off while their all downstairs singing prayers sing away he's in my pumpkin p.j.'s. . . " and before that song at her concerts she often says "This is MY prayer. . . . This book taught me that it was okay to fantasize which should be taught to all women

If you've not read Jane Bowles, stop what you're doing and buy this book now. Everything in it will enrich you. Every sentence is an object of pleasure, every character a shrewdly observed or constructed being. Along with Jean Rhys, Bowles is one of the most important writers of the last century.

While the entire collection is notable, I have to say that "Two Serious Women" seems to me to be the real masterpiece here. I read it ten or so years ago for the first time and liked it but found it rather dark. I re-read it a few years ago and liked it much more than I had the first time, finding it hillarious, albeit darkly. I was happily surprised all over again by the unpredictable behavior of the characters. Unlike many novels, this one is almost immediately engaging, with its portrait of the young Christina Goering's religion-obsessed childhood games. Jane Bowles is often lumped in with her husband; but her writing, though less voluminous, is more unique, more inventive. This is writing well worth repeated reading.

Jane Bowles' prose is strange and beautiful. It's never quite clear why her characters act the way they do, but they leave such haunting impressions that her novel and stories beg to be read a second time. My Sister's Hand in Mine is a great companion piece to Paul Bowles' The Sheltering Sky, which shares the split cold/emotional nature of Jane's work, and also themes of Americans abroad. Jane's novel Two Serious Ladies, which opens this collection, is a stunner. A wonderful writer; I wish she'd written more.

Enchanting tales of man v. beast, ok man v. a cute, fat squirrel, will keep you wishing for the simple days and make your attention turn towards the wonder of the outdoors. All the pranks and inventions will keep you happily confused on who to root for. Wonderful to share with the family on a cold winter night by the fire!

I remember the squirrels in my backyard when I was growing up . . how great to have this story to share with my children. A great invitation to turn off the T.V. and look out the window . . nature is so much more entertaining, especially when you give it a helping hand.

When I read this book, it took me back to a charming mid-20th century, mid-America. The author has an engaging way of telling tales of big family life, untamed nature, and the perennial battle of man-versus-squirrel. The family's encounters with neighborhood wildlife are so outrageous, I wouldn't have believed them without the pages of photos! I've read it twice!

A tribute to love and the many rewards that it can bring.

Francis is a fragile baby sparrow that fell from his nest on a spring morning. Through beautiful color photographs, we watch first hand the passage of time beginning with Francis's arrival into the author's life. We watch the small sparrow grow until he "leaves the human's nest." This book serves as a reminder that every creature, human or nonhuman, can flourish and grow with love.

It is obvious that the author remained patient and nurturing as the photographs were taken. These color photographs of the small bird against a soft satin-like background highlight this book's simplicity. I read this one to my 6-year-old daughter last night and many children will echo her words. As I closed the book she asked me, "Daddy, can I bring this to show and tell?"

Excellent job Francis! Tell your assistant Carla C. Cain that we look forward to hearing from you both again! Thank you for reminding me of how one simple, loving action can enhance the lives of the person giving and receiving this wonderful emotion.

I have never seen a children's book like this before! Rather than illustrations, this book tells the story with photographs! My kids and I love to see the transformation of a featherless infant bird into a young adult. It is both an entertaining and educational book with a very touching ending. I would recommend this book to anyone any age; it appeals to both young and old. There is also a lot to see on the book's website. Lots of pictures on this site.

I thought this was such a neat book! The pictures were great and had very vivid detail. And I was amazed how the story went along so well with the photographs! I loved this book so much I gave it to all my nieces and nephews for Christmas. I give this book five stars and recommed it to everyone!

I bought Norma's first book (My Students' FAVORITE Chinese Recipes) on a whim while killing some time at a book store. I didn't think much of it until one day when I felt inspired to make some Chinese food. The book was well organized and her instructions are straight forward. I used that book for many years and it has become worse from wear as I consider it the foundation for most of my Chinese food cooking.

I just purchased the Updated Edition on Amazon.com and am looking forward to thumbing my way through it in the years to come. Keep them coming Norma!

One beautiful thing about this book is that by stocking up with a few staples of the Chinese kitchen, beginners can easily prepare dozens of delicious, crowd pleasing dishes and meals. Once these staples are on hand, shopping for and preparing meals is a snap. I have owned a wok for over ten years, and this book inspired me to use it on a regular basis. Thank you Norma!

I attended one of her Chinese cooking classes, and she is a wonderful person!! Even though I thought I don't have many cooking skills, she makes it easy and fun!! She was there to help me all the way, and the end result was delicious!! If her book is even HALF as good as her classes are, this book is a MUST HAVE!!!

When we brought home our first foster child with the hope of adopting, we felt she needed to have a baby book like any other baby would have. But we had a really hard time finding a good one. I didn't want to have to leave a lot pages blank when I didn't know all of the information that a traditional baby book asks ("When my mom found out she was pregnant, she ..."). Then I found this book. There's one page that says, "Some special babies are adopted" and a box to check that says "I was." One page says, "I'm lucky because I have..." and you write how many moms, dads, etc. The pages are easy to fill out with a lot of choice boxes to check. It's colorful with silly pictures that the child will enjoy looking out as she gets older. We're now on our second "foster with the hope of adoption" child and we're going to use this book again.

Are you sick of all the cutesy-wootsey Beatrix Potter/Precious Moments baby books? After going the "Classic Pooh" and "Peter Rabbit" route with my first 2 kids, I opted for something a little bit cooler for Baby #3. If you are a parent that's more like "Daria" than Martha Stewart, then "My Really Cool Baby Book" is for you. It contains the usual baby book fair (i.e. growth chart, foot and hand prints, place for a lock of baby's hair, baby's vital stats, etc) but adds fun stuff as only Todd Parr can (does baby have dimples? inny or outy belly button?). Plus, this particular book is told from baby's perspective rather than Mom or Dad's. If you've read and loved Parr's other works (such as my favorite "This Is My Hair"), then you should take a look at this unconventional approach to recording Baby's first few years.

This book is Great! you can fill in the blanks,attach stickers and record all the things a your baby does. It's not about Do's and Don'ts as the other review says and very different from his other books which are all Great

I appreciate this book as well as the "My Colors" book by the same author because they take the time to seperate shapes and colors. In some series, the two are combined and I feel that they should be taught seperately.

I have been using this entire series with my son since he was born, and he is now 14 months. He loves the pictures and turning the pages. The books use the format of one word per page and it gives both the English and Spanish form of the word. This is a great series for early language acquisition.

My son loves this book series.. He wants us to read it to him over and over. It has been a great tool to introduce him to Spanish from his 1st birthday while also exposing him to shapes, colors and numbers...
