Much more than a Kiss and Tell Tale!
Not your average run-of-the-mill kiss and tell book. I bought this book because of my interest in Steve McQueen, and came away with a whole lot more! Barbara Leigh, lovely cover-girl, actress, and Playboy pictorial beauty (twice!), candidly reveals her life and passions. The majority of the book takes place during Barbara's turbulent but exciting escapades with three of the most famous and desirable men of their day (the period is 1970-72), Elvis, Steve McQueen and a big-shot Hollywood producer. Barbara is in her early twenties during this time, and her freshness in telling her story makes us, the reader, feel we're right with her! But there is much more to this story than just who's bedroom she's in. It's a story of courage, surivial, making the right choices even after having made mistakes, like we all do, and keeping your head up and moving on and up. I came away with nothing but admiration for Barbara, and recommend this book to anyone interested in a story of a brave woman full of life.

The King, McQueen and the Love Machine
My name is Joe Esposito. I worked for Elvis for 18 years. We were very close.
I was there the first day Elvis meet Barbara Leigh in Las Vegas.
When her first saw her, he could not take his eye's off of her. Either could I. They just connected. They got to know each other very close.
They had a wonderful relationship for a few years. One of the things I liked about Barbara's book is she was very honest about her life. She had some very hard times in her earlier years.

This is the first time she has really wrote about her relations with her special men.

I think she did a wonderful job writing this book on her life. I know it had to be hard on her. It's not easy writing a book about your life. I know.

I really enjoyed reading it. And I know it is the truth because I was there. I have recomended it to a lot of my friends.

It's a great story.

Why you should buy this book:
From the minute you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down. From her humble beginnings, to her exciting Hollywood experiences, Barbara Leigh's story is written with sincerity and honesty. Her relationships are described in a way that conveys nothing but love and respect for the three men (Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen and Jim Aubrey) she shared a time of her life with. I've always been a fan of Barbara Leigh from her film and modeling career, but knew nothing of her personal life. This book not only takes you through her life, but reveals fascinating insights to Hollywood and to some of its legendary people as well. My only problem with this book is that I eventually came to page 320 (it's the last page, and I could have easily read another 320). I absolutely recommend this book! As a side note: In one chapter, Barbara refers to herself as the "original" Vampirella. As far as I'm concerned, she is the ONLY Vampirella!

One of the titles for the younger crowd in the Beginners Books series, My Book About Me has an unusual interactive twist--you make it up as you go along. On each page there's something new to complete, from "I weigh ___ pounds" to "My teeth. I counted them. I have ___ up top. I have ___ downstairs." It's a simple idea, but with a surprising amount of educational value--getting children to name their home country, to recognize and draw in the color of their own eyes, learn their telephone number and address, to name favorite clothes, foods, and colors, and more. Finally, there's a two-page spread where each owner of the book can write his or her own story. Illustrator Roy McKie's style is halfway between the P.D. Eastman of Are You My Mother and the mainstream Seuss of Cat in the Hat and Thidwick: The Big-Hearted Moose. (Ages 4 to 8) --Richard Farr

WONDERFUL MEMORY BOOK
I recieved this book just after I learned to read (25 years ago)! I loved completing all the tasks (I still remember counting every fork in the house). Being allowed to write in a hardcover book was the greatest for a 6 year old! I look back on the book and know it will be a wonderful memory for me to share with my son about his mommy's childhood! And I'm sure he'll enjoy filling out his own copy too! I'd HIGHLY recommned this book for ANY and EVERY child! But make sure they keep it forever to share with thier children! It should never end up at a used book sale!

Gotta get a second one!
My older son got this book as a gift several years ago, and my youngest son was reading it this morning and wants one of his own. I'm so glad I found it! It's sort of like a baby book the kids can fill out for themselves. Some of the things the kids fill in are "my hair is ________" and I live in a (city, suburb, town, etc.) And it's all in the wonderful prose of Dr. Seuss. Then they can draw pictures on some pages and color already-drawn pictures on others. I've enjoyed looking back at some of the things my now-eleven-year-old said when he was five! I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to give their young children the opportunity to create a memory book for themselves for their growing up years. It's great!

i love my book about me!
i got my book about me from one of my aunts for my 5th birthday, and she helped me fill it out. i'm now 24 and still have it, and love it! unfortunately, my mom didn't get any for the older 3 of my siblings, who are now in their teens, but i have other younger siblings (we have a whole heard!) and i plan to get it for them, and also buy a few extra copies for when i have children. (if it's still around, i might just get one for every year!) it's the perfect gift for a child between 5-7. and it's nice to look back and see the ways that things, and people, change and grow. every parent should get this book for each of their children. you won't regret it! it's a great keepsake, directly from your child!

Wonderful . . .
My Bother, my Sister, and I is a powerful tale of a courageous family! What Yoko and her siblings go through is amazing, and while reading I felt as if I had been with her and gone through everything she had. I couldn't put the book down. My Brother, My Sister, and I is as moving a tale as it's prequal. I strongly recommend it if you have read So Far from the Bamboo Grove.

moving sequal
I recently reread this book in preparation for teaching my class of seventh graders. One must read Far From the Bamboo Grove before reading this one. It is heartwrenching to see the twists and turns in the life of the Kawashimas. But as brother Hideyo says," ... the Kawashima children can become a few drops of water in the ocean and make ripples that will spread humanity." My students are in awe of this family's struggle to survive. They are more appreciative of their lives and their parents. Yoko Kawashima Watkins is our hero. This is a book that will not be forgotten.

WOW!!!
This book is a wonderful book. I have read it over 3 times now and I still want to read it again. Before I read the book I had some sibling problems, and after reading it I am now closer to my sisters. It teaches you how much you need your family and what they can do for you. I think it is more than a 5 star book. It should be a 100 star book. I think if most people in the world read it our world would be changed. It would be peaceful and people would not get into big arguments. That is how much this book can change us. If you don't beleive me you should read this wonderful, fantastic, brilliant book by Yoko Kawashima Watkins. It is one novel you'll never forget!

My Father's Dragon--a favorite of young readers since the 1940s and a Newbery honor book--captures the nonsensical logic of childhood in an amusingly deadpan fashion. The story begins when Elmer Elevator (the narrator's father as a boy) runs away with an old alley cat to rescue a flying baby dragon being exploited on a faraway island. With the help of two dozen pink lollipops, rubber bands, chewing gum, and a fine-toothed comb, Elmer disarms the fiercest of beasts on Wild Island. The quirky, comical adventure ends with a heroic denouement: the freeing of the dragon. Abundant black-and-white lithographs by Ruth Chrisman Gannett (the author's stepmother) add an evocative, lighthearted mood to an already enchanting story. Author Ruth Stiles Gannett's stand-alone sequel, Elmer and the Dragon, and her third volume, The Dragons of Blueland both received starred reviews in School Library Journal and are as fresh and original as her first. (Ages 4 to 8)

Outstanding read-aloud book, very clever story
Much like Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm, the My Father's Dragon trilogy is a fun read, and has a mixture of absurdity and humor that appeals on multiple levels. It's an easy read to a toddler, with several pictures throughout, and journey maps on the inner covers.

Since the chapters are short, you can do two or three a night without losing continuity. At the same time, the story has enough depth and cleverness that the parent can remain engaged. Thus, it's a catalyst for bonding.

One of the things that makes it special is the main character. Elmer Elevator, on the advice of a stray cat, starts out on a noble odyssey to free a baby dragon from its animal tormentors. In his preparation, Elmer packs dozens of seemingly useless items, including a magnifying glass, brush, sandwiches, and lollipops. While he travels across Wild Island, all these items become essential, and you wonder if the story was being told by MacGyver :-)

We've read the trilogy to completion five times and it's still a hit with everyone.

The Dragon and Elmer
I started to read books when I was 3 years old. When my dad read My Father's Dragon to me, I was. . .well, I don't know, but I think 5. I have a dragon doll and I really recommend the book. It was an exciting adventure and I really like the cat. The cat is real nice and talks about her journey to Elmer. Please enjoy this book. Do you think others would recommend the book? Well, I would. This book is so incredible. Share this book with friends and family.

Delightful Surprise
I was browsing the list of audiocassettes and happened across "Three Tales of My Father's Dragon." I read the other reviews and decided to buy it for my son (who is 4). We absolutely fell in love with all three stories! We listen to it ALL the time! We leave one cassette in the house to listen to at night and one in the car. We have had the tapes for two months and have not tired of listening to them. My son just laughs and loves all the aspects of these stories. The acting of all the characters is so vibrant and you quickly realize that each character has his own distinct personality and voice! I would HIGHLY reccomend these stories! They are fantastic!

"In My Sisters Shoes"
This book is a must read, I purchased an additional copy to share with my sister. Like myself, my sister has found so many similarities to her own life experiences. The book is very inspirational, this author will have a very successful future. Looking forward to her next.

A Sound Investment!!
I started reading this book this morning on the train. I could not put it down.

I was sitting in the train reading when the conductor came and told me we were at our final destination. The train was empty!! I did not realize we had stopped and everyone had left.

The Author had me reminiscing, relating, realizing, releasing and rejoicing!!

Mrs. Anderson-Blair has stories that we all can relate too. Mrs. Anderson-Blair relates every day situations with a life experience. How do you think a pair of designer gold shoes can be related to your life? Mrs. Anderson-Blair is an amazingly talented author. This book is well written, and an enjoyable easy read. You will not want to put this book down.

I will keep this book with me so when I go to a place I don't want to be, I know this book will bring me back to the here and now.

I loved this book. This book is a keeper.

If The Shoes Fit...
I read this book while on vacation and really enjoyed it. Jetola's essays made me take an inventory of myself. Looking forward to reading more of her books.

This book should be made available again!!
This is a wonderful fantasy that was read to me when I was in fourth grade. I am now a teacher and would love a copy to share with my students. This story focuses on a boy, his father, and his best friend. It is the classic David and Goliath story of good vs. evil and weak vs. mighty. The author's writing spins a wonderful web of creative imagery and suspense. I would recommend this book to readers of all ages. It is truly wonderful!

This book shaped my life
This is a book, which you will never forget...Astrid Lindgren is such an enlightened writer that reading her books is almost a transcendental experience. Mio my Son impacted me so much that I could retell this book to my friend in great detail more than ten years after I read it when I was a child.

A sweeping tale of adventure
First published in Swedish in 1954, Mio, My Son by Astrid Lindgren is a classic children's fantasy novel presenting the saga of Karl Anders Nilsson, a young boy who travels with the help of a genie to Farawayland where he meets his father the King, who loves him as his cold foster parents in Stockholm never did. It is in that very special kingdom that Karl first learns of a prophecy, and determines to pursue his duty to venture into the darkness of Outer Land and do battle with the vicious Sir Kato. A sweeping tale of adventure which has been translated into English by Jill Morgan and enhanced with illustrations by Hon Wikland, Mio, My Son is an enthusiastically recommended addition to any school or community library fantasy/fairytale collection for young readers.

There should be a law that requires every child to sit on Grandpa's knee as he chants "Trot, trot, to Boston; trot, trot, to Lynn." Grownups who still giggle at the thought of Little Jack Horner pulling a plum out of his Christmas pie, or who make a wish on a star, murmuring "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight" know the secret. They're the ones who will be handing down those same nursery rhymes to their own children, preserving an age-old tradition. But no child should be left behind.

In world folklore authority Iona Opie's collection, these invaluable and ancient nuggets of childhood verse are bursting with new life. Quirky and sly, sweet, gentle, rollicking, silly... the range of rhymes is breathtaking. Winner of over a dozen prestigious awards, including a Parents' Choice Award and an ALA Notable Children's Book award, this wonderful book is charmingly illustrated by Rosemary Wells, best known for her Max books (Max's Bath, Max's Bedtime, Max's Ride). A solid repertoire of nursery rhymes should be de rigueur for any aunt, uncle, grandparent, or parent worth his or her salt. This book is a must, as is its companion volume, Here Comes Mother Goose. Average review score:

This collection engages my daughter each time we explore it.
Mother Goose can sometimes be a bit outdated, but Opie's choices and Wells's illustrations brings it to life. The well designed book, with short sections to choose and read, engages my 3 year old as well today as it did when she was one. She recites the phrases and rhymes while reading. She often repeats the verse when we don't even have access to the book, much the same way we did as young children. Many of the Mother Goose rhymes involve animals. Wells's animals are lively, adorable and have a little michief in their eyes. The poems and rhymes are grouped well. Long verses are combined with short to keep a young person's attention. This is a great book to give to a Grandparent. They will enjoy sharing verse that they grew up with. Our favorite verse is one I had never heard or read prior to reading this book. It smacks of England with the rich, yet simple vocabulary. "Boys and girls, come out to play, the moon doth shine as bright as day... ...come with a whoop and come with a call, and come with good will or not at all...

A wonderful update of an old classic
This book may keep Mother Goose nursery rhymes alive for many more generations to come. I was not particularly drawn to Mother Goose books - many of the rhymes I could remember seemed irrelevant to me. But this book has changed my view. My 3 1/2 year old son and I read it together regularly - he now chants the rhymes along with me. The collection is so well done, with rhymes you'd be happy to read to any child (none of the violent or gory rhymes), and the illustrations are utterly perfect & add tremendously to the content of the rhymes. We have shelves full of children's books, but I would put this in the top 2 or 3 - this is a classic.

A very good nursery rhymes book
My son loves this book, he is 4 and have most of them memorized, we borrowed it at first at the library, he loved it so much that I had to get him his own.I like it for it's simple and easy to remember lines, we read a couple of different nursery rhymes books, that I find is a little too much to remember for his age.If you buy this book be ready to keep reading it, 'cause your little one will be asking you again and again.

An Exceptionally Easy Guide to Follow
From: Publisher's Weekly, 8/30/99 (pg. 71) *Most canine relationships are the result of a faulty dog/owner bond,* writes trainer Joy Tiz in her guide to handling problem pooches, *I Love My Dog, But . . .: The Ultimate Guide to Managing Your Dog's Misbehavior*. Tiz provides an amiable, no nonsense outline on how to set things right by redirecting a dog's natural inclinations. And her *Puppy Head Start Program* is loaded with valuable advice on how to circumvent future problems. Tiz's short, snappy paragraphs make this book an exceptionally easy guide to follow*

When you do not have a textbook case dog!
I recently got a puppy that had a few problems such as wetting in his crate and being aggressive towards other dogs. Ms. Tiz addresses a variety of problems that most training manuals do not address. For example, most dogs do not urinate in their crates and most books do not address those cases in which a dog has lost his sense to keep his crate clean. Even if your dog does not have serious, problematic behaviors, Ms. Tiz conveys the importance how your body language and words can contribute to your dog's bad behavior. I can't thank her enough for this wonderful book. I have a wonderful puppy that now keeps his crate clean and is friendly towards the majority of dogs. Note: I initially purchased the book because it was one of the few books that address multi-dog households.

Miniature gems from Maya
"Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now" is a delightful collection of short prose writings by Maya Angelou. Most of the mini-essays in this book are only 2 or 3 pages long, making this a good selection for those whose hectic schedules force them to do their reading in "found moments" during the day. In the book Maya reflects on various topics: spirituality, style, travel, sensuality, and being a woman. Many of the selections contain autobiographical reminiscences.

As someone who has read Angelou's book-length autobiographical narratives and poetry collections, I was fascinated to see her writing in a different mode. In "Wouldn't Take Nothing" she reflects on some of the people of her life: her son, her grandmother, her voice teacher, and others. Her musings on spirituality have an inclusive, multi-faith flavor.

Some of Angelou's observations may seem a bit obvious. For example, in the opening mini-essay she declares, "Being a woman is hard work." But what may obvious to some may be a revelation to others, and Angelou doesn't shy away from reaching out to that second group. And throughout the book her writing is graced with moments of wit and passion.

In the essay entitled "Power of the Word," Angelou writes, "I'm a spring leaf trembling in anticipation." I have no doubt that this appealing collection will leave readers trembling with anticipation for Maya Angelou's next book.

The first book I ever read in one day
WOULDN'T TAKE NOTHING FOR MY JOURNEY NOW is conversational in tone and format. It is the first book I ever read in one day because, well, I couldn't put it down. I like Maya Angelou's perspective and refusal to compromise. I enjoyed learning about her multi-leveled life (this was the first book by Angelou that I have ever read, so it was my introduction to her life).

The passage I found most interesting in this book is where Maya says that she always takes a day off at least once a year to forget who she is. She said that she lets everyone know which day it is, and not to call her on that day. She takes a trip by bus or train, and if she runs into those she knows, she will avoid interacting with them. Maya recommends that everyone do something like this once a year, take a day just for themselves.

A wonderful book for a woman
This is the best book that I have ever read. Every book she has wrote was great but this one is different. It is more unique and interesting. This book is about a black girl who was called a woman instead of something else. I really enjoyed learning about her multi-leveled life as I read this book. Maya Angelou is a wise woman that has a great talent and a beautiful heart. I recommend this book to any woman...

There's a Wocket in my Pocket is yet another prime catch in the vast sea of delectable Dr. Seuss books. It's difficult to find a Dr. Seuss book one wouldn't recommend highly, and this is no exception. Seuss's simple rhymes are consistently as amusing as they are useful; his books are bastions of creative nonsense that simultaneously encourage the joy of wordplay.

This edition of the 1974 treasure features vibrant full-color illustrations, with the added bonus of a virtually indestructible board-book format. Kids can hunt for the zamp in the lamp, the jertain behind the curtain, even the nooth grush on the toothbrush, and no matter how exuberant their exploring gets, the book will remain intact for the next reading. Kids get a kick out of the silly nonsense words
Kids love the silly, made-up words in this book by Dr. Seuss. It is appropriate for the youngest listener because there is no story to follow, just pages of rhymes. As a parent asked to read it night after night, I'd recommend hiding it after a few days, or you will lose your mind. However, this book, and other Dr. Seuss books like it, are very useful for teaching the concept of rhyme. It also lets kids know that inventing characters and words is fun.

I love it....... but she doesn't
I love reading this book to my two year old - but she never lets me finish it - instead giving me a different book to read. I sincerely believe it is because she is at a stage of learning real words, and so many words with no meaning either don;t intrest her or she just doesn't understand. I think it is definitely for other kids, maybe 3-4 that can understand the difference between words they haven't learned yet and words that are just made up and not real.

Colorful rhymes with colorful illustrations
Dr. Suess is one of the greatest poets for kids. Some of his greatest books are "The Cat and the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham". All of his books has easy to read; the print is just as bold as the words and pictures in all of his books including this one"There's a Wocket in My Pocket". I have read all of the Dr. Suess books and they all make children want to learn to read, and have fun doing it. This book especially the great rhyme, almost sing-songy, helps children want to read along and follow the superb illustrations in the book too. The pictures look almost like hand-colored pencil drawings which makes it so fresh and lively for the children to want to read this book. I absolutely recommend this book along with all of the other Dr.Suess books; it's not only fun for the children it is also fun reading for the parents. Just about any age can really sit down and enjoy a Dr. Suess book like "There's a Wocket in My Pocket" just because it is pure fun to do so.
