"Acaysha takes you on her journey ....an awe-inspiring story of hope and renewal of the human spirit! Her experience provides us a realization that life's challenges are, indeed, our very best teachers..... but only if we really pay attention to the lessons and letting go of those thought patterns of "Why is life so difficult?" and "Why is this happening?"
Acaysha guides us to understand "what is real" and, in the process, we discover a world of majestic beauty... the peace and joy that Dolphins experience. In this world our suffering ends once we shed our "illusions."
Acaysha guides us as her angels guide her. It is in this world where we can meet our very own angels. Thank you, Acaysha, for sharing this wonderful world!"

My 5-year-old DEMANDED we own this book....
My son came home from pre-school reciting bits of the book after just one reading and begging to order it for home. The illustrations are wonderful and the language is clever and fun. Now my son wants to write books of his own!

As a parent, I would add that if your child has concerns about nightmares, this book is a practical-but-fun story about how kids can control them.

A must for children from age 4 to 94!
Daniel & David Kamish have done it! My 6 year old and ten of his friends (holiday gift giving) own and love this book. The illustrations put a funny spin to awful kid nightmares, and who wouldn't give their right arm for a "magic pencil". We can't wait for these two to collaborate on another book!

Outstanding, fun for the family
Shows great imagination. Stimulating, great for kids of all ages

This one is a keeper...
I bought this book to encourage my 4-year old son to begin letter tracing. He already knew his alphabet by sight, but I couldn't find anything that interested him...as far as being able to write/trace the letters. We have several wipe-off marker type books. This is the only book that has captured his attention long enough to want to trace the letters. He likes that the wipe-off marker that is included has an eraser tip. He also likes all of the puzzle pieces and letters that came with the book. They are fun to dig through while he tries to find the matching letters to go with each picture. It's like having a treasure hunt.

I like that there are so many different levels of learning in this book, and it really is just a lot of fun! I wish I had one when I was little...

Ingenious!
We have dozens of ABC books on our bookshelves, and none has captured my son's (or my) attention quite like this one. The rhyming riddles are ingenious, and accompanied by the 4-piece puzzles, they make this book one of the most engaging and innovative teaching tools I've seen. Highly recommended!

A Favorite!
I got this for my daughter when she turned three. She is now four and still loves to get it out to practice her writing. She will sit for an hour working through the pages. It has been a great help for her writing skills.

I also recommend Now I know my 123's.

fun stuff
In this volume, Skuld gets her own angel, there's a completely smitten broom, and Sayoko becomes an "all powerful" queen. Although I haven't read all the Oh My Goddess books, I still had fun with this. I would like to find some of the other books, so I can find out how Skuld became a part of the group (that's a volume I missed). Belldandy is still the nicest character in the series, and I loved Skuld. Sayoko definitely shines in this book, as well. Very recommended. The art is gorgeous and the story should improve any bad mood.

Good as usual
I must say, the artwork in OMG is to most manga what Crossgen is to American comics. Everything else is a good deal worse (well, DC has Jim Lee now, but other than that...). As far as stories go, OMG is decent enough. It's not completely engrossing, but it keeps you amused. The character development is good, too. In Queen Sayoko, there is a bit of transformation in Skuld's and Urd's appearance (particularly the hair). Still a long way away from what it is "at this point," (the graphic novels are a good deal behind the monthlies) past the Rind arc.

Sayoko is back and more jealous than ever!
Everyone knows Sayoko thinks she is a queen...well, through a deal with the demon Mara, she now is one for real! The campus of Nekomi Tech goes under a major transformation, and everyone is brainwashed into worshipping Sayoko like the royalty that she thinks she is. The goddesses and Keiichi must stop her, but the brainwashing can affect them too. And the loyal subjects of Sayoko are not going to let her go down without a fight..

It's about time!!
This book lifts up, acknowledges, rejoices in, and teaches us about our wonderful differences. We learn through this book that we all receive gifts of lessons and experiences handed down through our cultural ties. It shows us how strong, powerful and united we can be. Share this book with loved ones and those who need to hear the message.

A Spritually-Moving Read
I read this incredible anthology in a day, and was moved beyond words -- especially for some of the book's masterful poetry. Two days later (on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day), I saw his daughter, Yolanda, appear on CBS' The Early Show. She was quite eloquent and gracious, and read her favorite poem from the book: "A Walk In The Clouds" by Steven Manchester. It was my favorite, too! If you haven't heard it, you definitely need to go out and buy the book!

A Lasting Impression
Of all of the compilations and anthologies on the market, this one rates as one of the best. As I read each story, I felt as though I had grasped the threads of humanity and woven them together, into a tight fabric of tolerance, peace, love, and commonality. It's hard to change the world, but I think this book will leave a lasting impression.

Great Read!
I simply could not put this book down! Its amazing. It really allows you to get to know Oswald so well. I found in the book many similarities between myself and Oswald. Oswald Chambers was a beautiful humble and unselfish man. In the back of the book are many of his poems too.

A worthy read, a noble life
After reading Chambers' word daily for the previous three years, I had already been changed by the man's insights into the God's Word and the disciple's walk. As Richard Halverson (former Chaplain of the United States Senate) said of My Utmost for His Highest, "No book except the Bible has influenced my walk with Christ at such deep and maturing levels."

When I began to read what I thought would simply be a pleasantly uplifting and inspiring life story of a man I already admired, I did not imagine how much McCasland's biography would enrich my appreciation of Chambers' words and life. The book is quite well written, and was most certainly enjoyable, but it provided far more enriching rewards. The details of Chambers' life and thinking that McCasland's work painted became a context which greatly deepens the significance of Chambers' writing - especially My Utmost for His Highest. Provided with Chambers' background, upbrinning, struggles, failings, loves, sacrifices, ambitions, convictions, conversations, correspondences and more, his own writing has led me to even deeper appreciation and understanding of the walk of a faithful servant of Christ. I am still astounded that he died at my own age - how could such a young man come to know the Lord and the yoke of service so well in such a short time?! I am grateful that McCasland went on to relate the story of Biddy, Oswald's widow, and her incredible faithfulness to the work that Oswald was unable to continue.

I have already purchased and given away several copies of Abandoned to God, and will continue to recommend and share it. McCasland has done more than simply told the story of a man, he has revealed and shared a noble life with us. In summation, I must say that this book has become my favorite biography, and has probably made more difference in my life than any other I have read. Thank you, David McCasland!

life changing
As a reader of Oswald Chambers work, I was anxious to read more about the man. This book was life-changing, spiritually challenging and inspiring. Although an "easy" read in many respects, it's content was not easy to digest. I found it thought provoking and a time of self-examination. It's difficult to identify any current day lives so devoted not to "what God does, but who God is", as Oswald Chambers refers to early in the book. It's a book one would recommend without hesitancy.

Poetry, Fiction and Truth
All poetry is, in a way, fiction, meaning its an imaginary world that we enter by way of the writer's words. But not all fiction is poetry, certainly not poetic. Just scan the best-seller lists or the books you see people on airplanes and commuter trains reading. That's why it is a such a pleasure to find a novel that tells an engaging story, with characters you care about and situations you worry over, but also speaks in a poetic voice. Yet, while this book is both poetic and fictional you will never read a more heartfelt and truthful story.

My Wife's Last Lover is also very funny, and goes to the heart of contemporary issues between men and women today. It's also the kind of book that book groups love, since it deals with the issues that everyone talks about all the time, men, women, modern relationships, the search for meaning in a world that seems Godless and empty to some, yet filled with beauty and holiness to others.

Ravenous
I bought this book for myself, read it and then purchased one for all of my friends. The erotic honesty is seductive, fresh and unique. It makes you satisfied, yet wanting more. My only disappointment is that I can't find more by this author.

Remarkable talent, a master of words!
This author has the ability to take the reader on a journey through the mind of a man with such vivid images that you feel as a voyeur who has access to intimate thoughts. The reader feels "Daniel's" pain and passion, and shares his hopes and fears. The journey, at times, will also make you laugh out loud.

Martin Golan has a unique talent. I recommend this book to every woman (who yearns to understand men) and to men who will find a familiar and entertaining voice speaking to them.

I anxiously await more from this author. Much more!

If You Are Searching For Serenity
Jennifer L. Tinsman's book is without a doubt the most powerfulbook I have ever read. At this point in time I have already read ittwice and I still am finding answers to my questions that I missed the first time I read it. She speaks from her heart but, more importantly, when she speaks the reader feels as though THEY are the author and have walked in her shoes (or wish that they could!). She brings the message of peace and joy and the love of God that we all so desperately need in our lives. She answers many of the questions we have all asked at one time or another in our lives. This book brought me many tears of joy and sadness as well. This book also has helped someone that I love dearly and is in pain. This book helped her to find,at last, someone who understands and feels as the author does about the power of God in our daily lives and in our healing processes. Healing both in the physical and spirtual sense! I would recommend this book for anyone from any walk of life, any spiritual path, any need at all. She covers everything that you could ever want to know- and them some. I personally would like to thank the author, Jennifer Tinsman for sharing her story with us, the readers, that we may heal along with her. That we may learn along with her. She will bless you life, I assure you! PS I also bought this book as a gift for my sister and my father who fell in love with as well.

Are you are searching for answers?
Jennifer Tinsman's book is the most powerful book that I have read in many years. There could not possibly be any one human being that could not put themselves in her place and find for themselves all of the answers that they have searched a lifetime for. This book brought me tears and joy. It made me reclaim the true essence of my love of God. This book is for anyone who is searching for answers, who feels fear, pain, overcoming overwheming odds, tests from God. So many life issues are answered here in this book. I can truly say that this book brought a light into my life and the into the life of another whom I dearly love. She has touched us deeply. You CANNOT miss out on reading this book. It will uplift and encourage you to the depths of your soul. God bless you Jennifer for your gift to us-the readers.

Wise and Intelligent
Jennifer Tinsman doesn't profess to be anybody's "guru" or even teacher. What she IS is a human being of wisdom, intelligence, and heart. She is one of us...and the path she has walked is inspirational.

Nothing to Do but Stay: My Pioneer Mother

Memorable
The author is the youngest of six children of hard-working Norwegian-speaking parents, and the account of the struggles her parents went thru is awesome. Sometimes I thought the author indulged in hyperbole, and I would have appreciated a little more exactitude, but it no doubt is true that life during the twenties and thirties in northwestern North Dakota was a hard and demanding one. The first part of this book is the best, as the author relates the fantastic efforts necessary for the kids to be educated. There is a lot of discussion of Norwegian food, and those of you who are of Norwegian descent will gobble that talk up, but for me I could not get too interested in how her mother went to extraordinary lengths to prepare, under primitive conditions, the food she was so good at concocting. There is less talk of the interesting political events during the time than I would have liked. Appam, North Dakota, which was apparently a home town to the family during these years, has, according to my 1958 atlas, a population of 18. I would like to have learned whether it was a bigger place when the author was a child. But the upbeat attitude to her childhood was a real plus for this book--not the dreary catalog of hardship one sometimes gets from depression sagas. I liked this book.

this was a GREAT story
I stumbled on this book in a used book store. It is the amazing story of the author's parents and their life in rural North Dakota. The book has adventures, anecdotes, and gives the reader a real sense of how families existed in the early 20th century. This was a very entertaining story, although perhaps you can't tell from this review. None of us who have read it could put it down, from my 78 year old mom to my sister who is reading it to her 7 year old daughter.

An amazing story about a frontier Mom!
I loved this book. Its a compendium of short pieces about the author's mother, who was a frontier woman with a wonderful outlook on life. I also loved the descriptions of her husband, who had to drive the children through snow, to get to their respective schools, and the descriptions about how the kids were settled in the schoolhouse overnight, while wild mustangs banged against the door. I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I would send my children to a schoolhouse way far away, with food for a week. Can you imagine what they did after school let out... all by themselves? I wanted to hear more about this. The descriptions of quilting are wonderful. It is a great book if you are in the mood to feel cold, hungry, and in North Dakota with the snow beating down upon you. Also if you enjoy descriptions of sumptuous meals at holidays, replete with Norwegian recipes!

Stellar Perspective
Stanley Plumly's poems could be described as quietly magnificent. There is an amplitude and gracefulness to the work that hearkens strongly back strongly to the nineteenth-century Romantics, in particular Keats: "Like some dreams, they appear, then reappear, / cloistered in the space of their own wounding, / their public mourning, their gravity's gray coat. / Even at a distance, as if drawn by being seen, / they come straight at you, the almost elegant woman / in the aisle, the tall young birdlike silent / weeping man . . ." (from "Grievers").
Yet Plumly never sounds antique. Reading the poems in this new, retrospective collection is an experience in following a thought process that is physically embodied in phrases, complex sentences and vivid images embedded in articulate lines. Doubters who question whether any of today's poets have schooled themselves sufficiently in the hard apprenticeship of Yeats and other poetic forbears should listen and take heart: "Sound of the breath blown over the bottle, / sound of the reveler home at down, light of / the sun a warbler yellow, the sun in / song-flight, lopsided-pose. Be of good cheer, // my father says, lifting his glass to greet / a morning in which he's awake to be / with the birds . . ." (from "Cheer").
Plumly's poems are muted in manner yet never tentative; sonorous and fluent while refusing to be merely beautiful. He persists by searching out new ways to see, new ways of grasping what it means to be alive in these drastically fragile bodies. His book's title alludes to a strangely ambiguous evocation of parent and child lying beside one another - perhaps a small boy and his father, but more likely a diminished and failing father whose still vital son is recognizing in their unaccustomed intimacy a rare bridge across distance.
One of the wonders of this selection of Plumly's work drawn from thirty years is the way the book is arranged as a continuous sequence "in reverse chronological order," with only a brief author's note to indicate the original book titles. It is uncanny to see how comparable in acuity and eloquence the early and later poems really are in this fresh reading. The book lingers in its look back, filled to the brimming point with birds, trees, and people that are gone, all gone, residing now only here. Truly, a life's work.
Plumly has never been prolific - three slender books in the 1970s, two in the 1980s, and only one in the 1990s. Yet his ode-like soundings of mortality have accumulated in power and resonance. His voice is; the care with which these poems were made is evident in every line. This, then, from "Doves in January": "Long o's, long o's, long o's, and then a pause, / a whistle more like someone's voice than song, / as if in a moment a day could pass // from nothing's grief to some becoming grace.

Jim Schley, who lives in Vermont, is the author of a poetry chapbook, One Another (Chapiteau, 1999).

Mighty oak of a collection of poems
Stanley Plumly is one of the heavy cannons of contemporary American poetry and heads the Univ. of Maryland's successful poetry graduate program. I've read somewhere (probably American Poetry Review) that Plumly always had a very special place in his heart for his father. The title of this fine collection bears witness to that.

Poems in this collection are dense, patiently woven rivers of memory. They flow like dark wine distilled from decades of reflection, longing, and pain.

This is the kind of poetry that stops you in your tracks and demands your full attention and time to feel its delicate capillaries and steep pathways buried under heavy emotional foliage.

Out-of-the-Body Travel, Cardinal, Kunitz Tending Roses, Doves in January ("Long o's, long o's, long o's, and then a pause...") are some of the many unforgettable poems in this heart wrenching volume.

These are the kind of poems that make one say "if only I could write poems like these I wouldn't do anything else in life." But alas, we can't write poems like these. So that's why we become bankers, engineers, taxi drivers, and municipal workers. And if we are lucky enough, one day we discover Stanley Plumly and know for the first time what our soul was missing for all these years.

Buy this book and savor it a few lines at a time, half a page a day, for the next year, like brandy on your tongue, or your father's gravely voice in your ears.

Magnificent
Stanley Plumly isn't just a great poet. He is possibly the greatest American poet writing today and this compilation is a journey through some of the best poetry of the past thirty years. The depth of thought present in this work and the manner in which that depth is conveyed hold ground by even the most demanding poetic standards. Having interviewed him in the past, I can vouch for Plumly's genius. One look at his writing is all that the reader needs to vouch for his talent. A talented writer when he began, he has honed his skills over the past thirty years to a level that borders perfect. This books belongs on the bookshelf of anyone whose tastes include good poetry. You won't find a better volume of modern American poetry around.
