Illustrates examples of God's love in everyday life
Gregory Ryan's My Happy Heart is a colorful, read-aloud book written not just for kids age 4-8, but for the whole family to share. A simple, straightforward book of prayer to a kind and loving God, My Happy Heart shows wonderfully illustrative examples of God's love in everyday life, and makes excellent, highly recommended bedtime reading for young children.

A delight! Simple and profound.
Gregory Ryan's book, My Happy Heart, makes the ancient and profound tradition of Prayer of the Heart accessible to both children and adults. The charming illustrations and the author's clear, simple words lead the reader to his/her heart (the center of one's being) in a gentle, almost imperceptible, way.

The text is free of sentimental or pretentious words and therefore communicates directly from heart to heart. The child in me was deeply touched by this gem of a book.

My Happy Heart and the building of peace
..."A Happy Heart", by Greg Ryan, Obl. OSB, is a good read. Adults, too, will learn to become simple and prayerful. It is a delightful book and beautifully illustrated.

It was introduced recently at a domestic violence shelter where children and their mothers stay and learn for an extended period of time. You would think that meditation would be especially difficult for children of abuse, but the opposite proved true. The children took to contemplative prayer like ducks to water. Later that same day, the children asked if they could pray with their hearts at night; if they could pray with their hearts sitting on their beds, or on their floors.

I am thankful to Greg Ryan for putting in print this "how to" for children and families in an inviting way. Families will truly be helping to build a world of peaceful citizens by reading this book together and establishing their own family's practice of prayer.

An invaluable resource for personal medical informational.
My Health Record will enable the non-specialist general reader to reduce risk and minimize the impact of medical conditions by providing health care workers, doctors, and medical professionals with a personal health history, avoid repeating unnecessary, unsuccessful, or duplicated immunizations and tests, prevent prescription based complications, and document changes in healthy insurance and primary health care providers. My Health Record is invaluable for anyone seeking an active role in their own health and well-being, and could very well be life protecting when dealing with medical emergencies.

"I plan to use it for my family's medical records!"
"Very often patients are unaware or don't remember vital aspects of their own medical illnesses. I plan on using "My Health Record" for my own family's medical records."

"It's just the right size!"
"It is just the right size to carry along, whether traveling or just going to the doctor's office. Our audience often depends on others for assistance, and need a complete health record to which caregivers can refer. My Health Record does just that!"

His second war...
I grew up with Donald Brown in Opp, Ala. We are the same age. His service in the Merchant Marines in WWII somehow left him at a loss for closure, and he thought perhaps a lifetime commitment to the US Army would give him the career he wanted. The four years he spent in the Army, including battle time in Korea, were probably the most intense four years of his life. Donald is not a professional writer, but somehow he has brought not only the fortotten war into focus, he has brought the experience of what it took to survive in the curious world of the military in war time. Difficult as it was, Donald Brown survived, and survives today, by his many strengths, of which he had no idea he possessed. Well, I'm proud of the boy.

Wonderful Story
Wonderful book in which Mr. Brown shows us a very human side of war. He wrote with humor, compassion, and dignity. Once I started the book, I could not put it down.

A Great Read
A " Great Read" My Korea is a story about a young man trying to find his niche in an unsettled time. From recurit, to officer to Medal Of Honor. The author catches your attention ,then tells his story with humor and compassion. I rated this 5 Star.

My Life As an Indian

Buffalo culture of the Piegan Blackfeet
This is a terrific story of a young white man's time with the Piegan Blackfeet. James Willard Schultz came west for adventure and joined an Indian trading post 45 miles north of Fort Benton, Montana.

He not only traded furs, gold, liquor, and dressmakers goods to the Indians, but became fluent in the language of the Blackfeet, sharing in their hunts and wars and even taking a young Indian wife.

It's a somewhat self-conscious story from a masculine vantagepoint during a time when warrior bravado was in vogue and the buffalo were still thriving. This book portrays a segment of Native American life and culture just before the buffalo were diminished and the people were forced to reservations.

Given that _Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: an Indian History of the American West_ by Dee Brown contains only 2 or 3 pages in reference to the Blackfeet, a book such as _My Life As an Indian_ is a superb addition to one's bookshelf. Recommended.

Wonderful book!
I just came online to see if it was in print. I have had a copy of this book from the 1935 paperback that my Grandfather gave me when I was a boy. Not that I was a boy in 1935, it was actually in the early 70s. . .I was captivated by the stories JW Schultz lived! Helping his friend steal his wife from under the nose of the ever watchful father. It still grips me even today. Alas, my old copy is just that, old. That is how I came to write these words. Ordering a fresh paperback.

I cannot recommend this book more highly!

A spellbinding tale!
I absolutely loved this book, I couldn't put it down! I have been to the Blackfeet Reservation and Glacier Park many times, and while reading this book I could just imagine how it was back then. It gave me a new perspective on Indian life. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story about the old west and the Indians.

Definitely Beloved...
I don't have this book yet but I've read the excerpts...

I truly love Barry and Barbara also. I've always loved Barbara, ever since I was a little girl, I wanted her to be my sister. I've always thought that she's just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. It truly shows...

Heh heh, and Barry could be my brother. I love Barry's writing. It's personal and friendly, the feeling I get from it is that he's a very nice man. I love his voice also, as well as his acting. He is multi-talented...

Barbara definitely is BELOVED (and Barry too)...

I'm a fan, always have been. And hey! People may find it hard to believe, but I don't even have a single one of Barbara's movies or albums!

I was very poor and never could afford to buy much of anything (except for food, well actually, I always have bought lots of books). Recently though, my financial situation has changed (I'm very happy to say) and I plan on rectifying my dismal lack of a collection, having recently also purchased an absolutely awesome stereo system (finally)...

And I plan on buying Barry's book too!

P.S. I just can't finish this without adding that Barry was the best Pilate that there ever was...

A Slice Of Streisand's Life
There have been many Streisand biographies. She's accomplished so much in her life. Barry Dennen's sweet book MY LIFE WITH BARBRA is a slice of Streisand's life. It's also a snap shot of Mr. Dennen's life and contains many personal details about him. Dennen tells a good story and has an ear for dialogue. Of course, there is no way Dennen could remember the conversations he quotes verbatim - but I don't think he claims to. Rather, his book is a sort of "misty, water-colored" memory of the days in Manhattan with Barbra Streisand. He catches Streisand's cadences very well, though.

It's nice to hear about Streisand from someone who knew her personally. Everything I've always suspected was true - at least in her early career. Barbra was sweet and tough, ignorant and brilliant, self-absorbed and giving. She was very taken with her "look" and it's interesting to read about how she concentrated on her makeup and clothes so much.

The most fascinating part of the book is Dennen's recollections of some phone calls from the "adult" Barbra in 1992 and 1997. We see Barbra as we suspect she is: a little burdened with stardom; obsessed with the truth and trying to control how others tell it.

This book is great! At the end, I was most impressed that, despite the years that lapsed between Dennen and Streisand's love affair and friendship, Streisand still kept in touch. I suspect she is a loyal friend, despite her eccentricities.

His Life With Barbra
I found this book to be very enjoyable. I have long been a Streisand fan and have read many of her biographies, but this one, I would have to say is one of the best. Dennen takes us thru Barbra's early years, when she was just starting out as an actress, and describes his part in pushing her toward being the greatest singer of our times. This book is very sweet and I definately recomend it to any Barbra fan.

Enchanting little board book!
This is a wonderfully whimsical book on the ABC's: U-Umbrella, V-Vegetables, W-Whale, and so forth! The illustrations are artistically striking, brilliantly colored, and are sure to stimulate babies senses while teach small children the ABC's. "My Little ABC's Book," is an enchanting little board book, vibrantly animated, that will fascinate your children and teach them too. Birth and up.

The Definitive Guide to the ABCs
Bob Staake has done it again with quirky, colorful illustrations that appeal to little readers (and little listeners) everywhere. One of the best features of this book is the row of complete alphabet letters on the bottom of each page with a different letter highlighted. This feature helps children see the order of the alphabet as well as each letter's position. The repetition is a great teaching tool, and original letter-to-word relationships make the book all the more fun. This is a great companion to the Little Golden Picture Dictionary (illustrated by Staake) that will be released this June.

Beautiful book -- classic in the making!
I bought this Bob Staake book for my 4-year-old, and now we BOTH fight over it! The design and visuals of the pages are extraordinary -- something about it as compelling for adults as it is for toddlers. Have not seen any children's book quite like this, and wholeheartedly recommend it. I only wish more toddler books were this sophisticated and smart.

My Gorgeous Life
Published in Paperback by Dell (05 June, 1994)
Author: Dame Edna Everage

Delightful.
Barry Humphries admirably fleshes out the life of his most famous comic creation - Dame Edna Everage from Moonee Ponds housewife to beaming megastar. Like on TV, Edna is an outrageously egotistical tyrant who we find out has bullied Madge Allsop since High School and even danced with her cultural compatriate Les Patterson at a teenage formal. Here you will see how Edna saved Barry Humphries stage debut and has had him under her solicitors thumbs for several years. For sharp Edna/Barry enthusiasts there are a few questionable moves Humphries has made in the book though - 1) He is cheeky in that he leaves out a number of years in Edna's life as he did in his own biography. Why? 2) Edna started off as shy and genteel in the 50's. Here she is as bold as brass all the way. No real character change. 3) Her nephew "Barry McKenzie" is never mentioned. They did go to England together and do two movies together after all. Yet, despite these quibbles, there is Humphries characteristic razor sharp wit throughout and even a moving epilogue where Edna visits her husbands grave. In this there is a wonderful pathos which makes Humphries dedication to his character and his audience first class. Fans should look for other out of print Edna titles such as "Dame Ednas Coffee Table Book" if they enjoy this.

Read this book, possums!
I've been a fan of Dame Edna's for years and I have to say that this faux autobiography is one of the funniest books I have ever read. Starting from her humble beginnings (with mauve hair even then) we see our lovely Edna blossom into womanhood, marriage and motherhood---though she rarely has time to properly look after the kids because of her hectic and famous life. As an advisor to the rich, famous and royal (a spin doctor, in her words, to the Queen), Edna becomes a superstar in her own right---struggling with her troublesome childhood friend, Madge Allsop, who Edna lets us know, is a burden a good deal of the time! Edna deals with many dramas----her eccentric children, her husband with his desperate prostrate problem and the trials of being so easily recognizable to the general public. If you wanna read a book with a great deal of laughs, try to find a copy of this book. You won't be disappointed.

Therapy on a Tape
This is one of my all-time must-haves in the car...so that I can relisten to it any time LIFE gets a little too real, and I need a mini-mental vacation while driving. (It's an ideal gift too.)

It's a joy, and Dame Edna never fails to bring me back to a gentler reality.

I'm sorry to say that it hasn't been rereleased in Audio CD. I'm hoping that it will be available in that format in the future.

My life
Published in Unknown Binding by Weidenfeld and Nicolson (1975)

20th century Hero
This is a first rate account of the history of Israel told through a compelling and modest voice of one of its most important founders. This book greatly deserves a new printing and extensive circulation.

Golda Meir's autobiography is simply and powerfully written. Her account of her childhood in Russia and youth in the USA is straightfoward and unsentimental and shows the early roots of one of the most dedicated and ethical leaders of the century. While free of self-aggrandizement her gifts as a speaker and reprentative of the Jewish people are clearly presented (through speech excepts), and her account of the development of the state of Israel and its first 30 years.

Great book.
This is a first-hand account of the history of (modern) Israel, and the part Golda Meir played in it. It is amazing to see how a young Jewish girl from Kiev, USSR, makes it to the highest office in the new nation of Israel.

When I read accounts like this, it just infuriates me when I realize how much hatred the world has had, and still does have, for the Jews, and how much the Arabs will stop at nothing to destroy them. Make no mistake. . . while some of the Arab people may want peace, the Arab leadership does not. This is obvious when you look at this history of the region. The only times the Arab leadership has really pursued peace are the (5!) times they've gotten their tails kicked severely after attacking Israel.

The dedication of the Jewish people comes alive in this book. Many gave the utmost sacrifice in contribution to the founding and preservation of the Nation.

I recommend this book for anyone who is curious about the founding of Israel. One warning: Golda Meir (as were many of the founders of Israel) was an ardent Socialist; this was definitely evident in her book, and was a bit hard for me to stomach at times.

A Great Historical Text.
This was a very good history book as well as a touching novel. You are able to trace the life of Golda Meir from her days as a school teacher in Milwaukee to her days as prime minister of Israel. Through this book you are also exposed to a great deal of Israeli history. This book also gives you insight into some of the great leaders as well as the great events that helped to shape the nation of Israel. It was especially entertaining to read her opinions of David Ben Gurion and Moshe Dayan. The Yom Kippur war also makes for interesting reading. All in all this is an interesting book that you will certainly enjoy reading.

A lilting story
I first bought this book because I was fond of the author. Reading it the first time to my daughters' first-grade class, I cried. The author, Libba Moore Gray, perfectly captures the dance of the changing seasons and how the mother and daughter celebrate. After I finished the book that first time, a very rough-and-tumble boy asked, "Is that book poetry?" Of course it is! The best kind: the kind that reaches children.

A Treasure
I gave this book to my mother for Mother's Day after being introduced to it in one of my teaching methods classes. Gray uses words like paint on a paintbrush, dipping into serious deep blues and greens while tossing in dashes of bright yellows. Colon's illustrations enhance the carefully chosen and eloquent words, bringing them to life. This is truly a book to be shared by daughters and mothers.

My five year old loves this book!
I have a five year old blind daughter who loves this book. We read it every night at bedtime, sometimes 2 or 3 times before she falls asleep. She cant see the pictures but she loves the combination of words. "With a grin and a giggle, a hug and a whistle, we'd slap our knees and mama would say, Bless the world, It feel like a tip-tapping, song-singing, finger-snapping kind of day. Let's Celebrate!" And so we did. I love this book as much as she does, And I love to hear her recite it to me word for word. If your thinking about buying this book, think no more.
