Glacier National Park in Canada
Note that the Glacier National Park mentioned in this book is in Canada, not the United States.

Excellent & an Excellent Value (4 Parks in One Book)
The only reason I usually buy Falcon Guides is if there's no other guide for that park, I think they're just OK. But the two women that wrote this one did an excellent and thorough job. The descriptions for each trail tell you what to expect at literally almost every turn. (They'll say things like "at 1.3 kilometers you'll come to this mountain, at 1.6 km you'll reach a lake where the turn can be hard to find, so..." etc.) If you've ever had to find your way through a poorly marked national park trail, you'll know how valuable that can be. Also, they have the guts to come out and say things like "this trail is too much work for not enough scenery" and then back it up with evidence, not just leave it as their opinion. This will probably let you save a lot of time if your vacation time is limited, as it usually is. I would have liked to see a few more pictures, but other than that they did a great job. Plus, it has four national parks in one book, so it's a pretty good value.

A useful little book for Timberline Trail hikers
This is a useful little guidebook, rating segments of the Timberline Trail and showing an elevation profile for each segment. Nice for those of us who prefer to select our trail segments with more downs than ups when possible! Each segment has a concise summary of what you can expect to find in terms of scenery and river crossings (not to be taken lightly on Mt Hood; these aren't little babbling mountain brooks, they're raging torrents that can roll hundred pound boulders with ease). For those who are doing car shuttles, each trail is also described for clockwise and for counterclockwise hiking (relative to the entire circle of the mountain). This also creates the only disadvantage to the book, that is, it's twice as long as it needs to be due to repeating the same information in reverse sequence. Backpackers would do well to photocopy only the relevant portion and leave the book at home. The authors also suggest the preferred direction for each trail segment, which is useful. This book is worth the price.

Sick alpinism at its best
Three young men head up Alaska's Mt. Hunter with insufficient food and equipment. The terrain is difficult and the weather horrible. Naturally, an epic results... This is a hard book to find and generally expensive when one does find it, but it's well worth looking for.

Demon Seed
The Novel "Demon Seed" by Dean Koontz it was a very good book. It told alot of interesting details it told alot about the girl and her live with the home security. The way that the person in the security talked to her. The other reason was that she could talk to it and it could understand her and what she told it to do. It was neat how the computer could see her and everything that she did and it knew all about her. What she liked and what she woreit was a unsalf world so thats why she has a home security system. The book was good everyone should read it.

Useful for students and clinicians alike.
Dr. Tilley has again provided a helpful reference for Small Animal Cardiology that can also fit into a lab coat pocket. Not only is this a valuable source of information for students in clinics and for exam review, but also a quick reference for busy clinicians. Obviously EKG is only a part of a thorough cardiac evaluation, but it is often an important and underrated diagnostic tool. And for those of us who cannot always find a bic pen (vets will understand) when we need one, including a EKG ruler was a great touch! I strongly recommend this to any veterinarian interested in improving his/her EKG reading skills.

Must Read for Travelers to Sicily
This book is entertaining, humorous, informative and therefore a "must read" for anyone interested in Sicily, especially if one is considering travel to that unique Mediterranean Isle just south of the Italian mainland. It provides a brief American contrast and perspective, both positive and negative, on the Sicilian people and their culture, environment, traditions, and way-of-life. It is easy, light, and fun to read.

pretty good, but could be better
The guide is the best I've found, but it's not a stand alone resource. It's more comprehensive and with better comparison tables than the older "Hiking the Bitteroots." However, it lacks good mapping. If you're gonna use this guidebook, also get the two plastic topo maps of the Selway Bitteroot Wilderness from the Forest Service.

Where's Volume 2?
Great little book. I enjoyed every minute of it. The articulate and insightful accounts of daily life and struggles in a Northern California commune. Discussions on all kinds of topics: sexual identity struggles, raising children, firefighting, hog butchering, and more. I wanna go! Anyway, a great respite from my daily doldrums in the high-tech world. Did I say that I really like this book?

Progress has been made...
This book is set in the not too distant past when being gay meant you probably had AIDS, and AIDS was a real death sentence and this remains an undercurrent throughout the whole novel. Tom adores his niece and nephew and upon the death of his sister and husband learns he is appointed their guardian. There is strong resistance in his family and the novel takes you through his journey of trying to fight those who believe his lifestyle would not be ideal to raise children. The novel is a good read, though not necessarily enjoyable because it brings up the painful stereotypes that plagued the gay community in the 80s and early 90s and still affects them today. It is also difficult to see where reality is affected by these stereotypes in the gay community. But the book is definitely worth the journey into a a unique situation at a unique time in our recent history. The ending is a little too neatly tied, but it works on many levels.
