LOVE IT
i got this as a gift and i bought 2 more for two special friends....my baby listens to this the entire night when i put her to bed. moms im telling you are gonna love it

LullaBible - I love it!
This book and the cd's that are included allow you some of the most relaxing time. You can put the cd on at night with the volumn down low, and just drift off to sleep in God's presence. This item is for Mother and Baby and both will enjoy it for many years to come. I buy it for baby shower gifts and the recipient has always been very pleased.

I'll probably be listening to this when I am old and grey. Oh yeah, they say once and adult, twice a child - oh well - it's good easy listening - enjoy yours.

A Wonderful Gift for Mom & Baby
This is a beautiful book and CD combo. The book is beautifully put together, and the songs are just as beautiful. The book contains sheet music, so you could even play it on the piano or another musical instrument if you wanted to. The songs are made from stories in the Bible, starting at Genesis and ending in Revelation. A great gift created especially for mothers and babies. Stephen Elkins also put together the "Word & Song Bible", which is just as great. Check out that one too!

Makes Madonna Make "Postmodern" Interesting
Like so many, I find Madonna interesting. And I agree with the positive reviews of this book -- I really like it. The unique contribution here is the way the author discusses Madonna in ways that make "postmodern" an interesting, understandable, ans useful concept. And believe me, I am no fan of academic writing of or about the posrmodern. But this book can be highly and widely recommended.

Very Interesting Overview of Madonna
Madonna:alot can be said about Her but Boring isn't one of them.thsi Book Explores the Many things that relate too the Artist&personna that is Madonna.this Book is Challenging&also puts Madonna into a Complete Perspective from start too finish.just like the Woman Herself it will keep you wondering more&what lays around the Corner.

Final evidence of Madonna's superior intelligence
In this book GC Guilbert shows how absolutely everything Madonna has ever done is packed with clever references. He doesn't mean that she's a plagiarist, far from it: she just uses her vast knowledge of (popular) culture, in a "postmodern" way. A fascinating read.

Provost Rocks!
If I am able to write, it is all because of "Make Your Words Work."

Provost sets the tone of this book from the very first page when he asks the question "Can writing be taught?" and answers with "No, throw this book away."

This book taught me real methods for writing and editing what I write.

Provost also includes many exercises that aren't boring, and actually quickly enforce the point he is making in the chapters.

I've owned this book since 1991 and it is a book that I continually reference. And it's not only a great book of information, but it is also a great read.
Be thankful that this book is still available and buy it as soon as possible.

An Invaluable Guide
This book was my introduction into the world of good, gripping, and effective writing. I don't think I'll ever find a book more helpful than this. While other How-To-Write books pose good questions but provide very few answers, Provost gives you the lessons and advice that will make your writing sing. The fact that Provost knows what he is talking about is evident as soon as you read the first page. This is a How-To-Write book, and yet it's as hard to put down as a good fantasy novel. I've never read a book that has guided me so masterfully and that has enhanced my own writing so much. It's an invaluable guide to any writer. If you want to write well, buy this book.

Best writing book I've ever read
The fact that this book is out of print is a true indicator of how corrupt and twisted the "how to write" publishing industry really is. Why? Because this is the only writing book you'll ever need. So if you had it, you wouldn't have to spend your money on books like "How to write a best-selling novel in 5 minutes" or "YOU can write a classic," or other such stupid "guides," which usually are written by authors who have nothing else to their credit. Why read a book that claims it will show you how to write a best-seller, when the author himself hasn't written a best-seller? Gary Provost doesn't claim that he'll help you write a best-seller, he merely claims that he will help make you a better writer. And if you read the book, follow his instructions, and practice, you will become one. Provost wasn't a best-seller himself, and most of his books are out of print, but that doesn't matter. What matters is, he knew what makes good writing, and what makes writing work. And more importantly, he knew how to TEACH these principles. Hopefully one day this will be back in print. Until then, scour the used bookstores until you find a copy. You will be very glad you did.

A 'How To' book - not just a dialogue
It's nice to come across books that are actually helpful when it comes to acting on what has been discussed. I'v used most of the ideas in this book in starting a successful guitar teaching practice. All the ideas work - well nearly, you have to make allowances for cultural differences and local customs - but I'd assume we're not that insensitive. All the ideas are practical and can be done with almost no budget. And the advice is true - even though when you start out you'll think you know better and have to get 'burned' before you read it again and get it the second time over. Seems to me like this was written by someone who's been there, made the mistakes and successes and is telling us about it all. If you are teaching music (or even judo, dance, yoga, or any personal service) you need to read this book (or something very much like it.) In my experience it saved me it's cost many many times over in only a couple of months

Excellent resource for new teachers and pro-teachers alike
I have been teaching private music lessons for about 10 years now and had I had this book when I started out I don't think I would have made the mistakes I made. I still use it as a reference (it is always next to my piano). I found the chapters re: recruiting, finances and getting set up were crucial and very informative. Having this book also gave me the extra confidence when it came to quitting my other jobs and teaching private lessons full-time.

A definite "must-have" if you are currently teaching or if you are thinking about teaching in a private studio.

A common sense approach to teaching music lessons
This is a very comprehensive guide to teaching music. All the chapters are easy to read and divided into good sections, and offers many good ideas on how to teach various grade levels from elementary to adult, and more important, how to deal with their parents. It also covers school and community programs, as well as ideas on how to promote yourself (i.e. business cards and portfolios) and necessary lesson items to keep in your trunk. The chapter on taxes was helpful for me also. A very good book for someone wanting to start their own teaching studio, to teach band or community programs, or to simply pick up a few students for some extra money.

Norma....do go on!
This is by far my favorite Marilyn book ever! There are so many photos, that you don't have to face that anxiety of looking at the last one! This is a several sitting book, even if you are just using it as a coffee table book..

Original Marilyn Angle - Worth Every Dollar.
If you can get this book, get it. Mr. Haspiel was a teenager when he met Marilyn and he stuck with her. His information is first hand, as opposed to authors who cash in on researched material. James Haspiel is the source writers went to for their magazine articles and such, and his book is wonderful. He even has pictures of Marilyn, proudly displayed, without make-up on.

MARILYN: THE ULTIMATE LOOK AT THE LEGEND
I found this book to be a very special one on Marilyn Monroe and her "platonic" relationship with a special fan/friend. This book spans an eight year relationship with the author. You get a "back-seat" view of how Monroe's personality was, whether it was happy, gloomy, or sad during their "friendship" period. I truly enjoyed reading this book. It should be considered a "must read" and "must have" copy for for all Monroe's fans' and buffs' libraries alike. As the previous reader stated, this book was written from a perspective of someone being very close to Miss Monroe; somewhat placing this as a "unique" and interesting bit of MM reading. Lastly, the author gives the reader a "touching" bit of his own soul, when he describes his very last meeting with Miss Monroe before leaving for California.

All Marvin Gaye Fans Should Have This Book. Alicia Keys Turn Me On To This Book, Thank You Alicia

Great Book!
This book is wonderful! It gives a full account of the concept behind this wonderful album, which stood the test of time! To get the full effect, order the "What's Going On" Deluxe Edition!

Not only for Marvin fanatics...
I've read all of the books written about Marvin and picked this up to add to the collection, expecting it to be little more than expanded liner notes for the album. Wow. Very wrong. The book ends up encompassing Marvin's entire life through the scope of his most acclaimed work. It's beautifully written, unfolding more like a novel than you'd ever expect. It's a genuinely moving look at a true artist taking the boldest step of his...and arguably any other musician's...life. I can't recommend this highly enough, both as an admirer of Marvin's and as someone who just likes to read a great book.

Lots of great pictures
The book isn't very long and contains very few pages with actual words on it, but I didn't buy it for a story, I bought it for pictures of Madonna. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it was made near the end of 1987, so it only has pictures and information on Madonna from 1982-87. In the back portion of the book it does however have a short year by year biography on her. The pictures are black and white or colored. Many of them are from her different concerts. The book also includes some information on the earlier movies Madonna starred in such as Who's That Girl? and Shanghi Surprise. There are alot better books on Madonna that you could get, but for the price this is a great book. The pictures are beautiful and it is a welcome addition to my Madonna collection.

Gorgeous photos of the Pop Queen!
I bought this book when it first came out in the very early 90's. Madonna looks gorgeous in the photos. All of the photos are beautifully shot and Madonna looks fabulous! I was the biggest Madonna fan back then and loved this book to death. now, pushing 30, I am still in love with this book because the photos are so amazing!

You won't be disappointed! I think the best photo is the one where she's kissing the mirror. Great photographic techniques!

Madonna's most glamourous photographs
The photographs in this book capture the "glamour" Madonna perfectly. The pictures have a very crisp feel to them, at times verging on remote; Madonna's glamour shots, though largely reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe in this book, do not have the same "inviting" allure that Marilyn had. I suppose this is because it is unmistakable that Madonna is a powerful woman who must always be "in charge" and is in complete control of her career and her image, whereas Marilyn Monroe projected an air of vulnerability for which Madonna is probably without the capacity. But Madonna is still a beautiful and at times "exotic" creature.

Several pictures in this book had previously been published in magazines, the cover shot, for example, was once the cover for Life magazine. Many pictures from that same photo shoot are reproduced here, with the most touching being the "group hug" between Madonna and about seven siblings. A few out-takes from the "Like a Virgin" album cover photo shoot are included in this book as well.

The era of Madonna's career that is covered in this book is somewhat small, considering that she has now been in the public eye for nearly 20 years. All these pictures seem to be from the the years 1984 to 1987.

Malcolm Muggeridge: A Biography
Published in Paperback by Hodder & Stoughton Religious Division (16 November, 1995)
Author: Gregory Wolfe
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

A Man for All seasons
Malcolm Muggeridge is a literary icon of sorts, a man who called Orwell, Greene and Powell friends, whose image was displayed in Madame Tussaud's Waxworks Museum in London, who was a celebrity editor and tv personality in Britain for much of his life. Yet, it is the final journey of his life, toward spiritual growth and faith, that makes him a lasting figure on the literary scene, and one of the most celebrated Christian writers of the century. Gregory Wolfe's able biography takes us through his literary and spiritual journey, from the dark days of his infidelities and his contemplation of suicide to his saintly days as promoter of Mother Teresea and debater of Bill Buckley. Wolfe introduces us to a wonderful thinker and pundit, and does so without pulling punches, but I would also recommend Muggeridge's own Chronciles of Wasted Time. A shame he never completed the final part of this memoir, for it is a classic in the confessional genre.

A man did not shy from speaking out
A very strongly recommended addition to academic and community library collections, Malcolm Muggeridge: A Biography is a straightforward study of the life and impact of Malcolm Muggeridge (1903-1990), a British writer and social critic at the center of controversy for his generation. In his creation of an absorbing portrait of a man did not shy from speaking out, biographer Gregory Wolfe has created an informed and definitive presentation on one of the most influential minds of the 20th Century.

What made Muggeridge tick?
What an incredible mind! Muggeridge's depth of vision is laid before us, his words powerfully used. It would be accurate to say that he "licked the earth" for most of his life and we are given convictingly honest insight into how this part of his life played out. The Lord had something else in mind and it was a long, slow process for Muggeridge to finally come to Christian faith. Bogged down a bit in the middle for my taste, but such a satisfactory read; couldn't put it down for long.

Nowt New but a Good One to Have Around
Your standard compilation of quotes from the boys. Especially apt for the Manics considering Nicky's big mouth, wee Sean's bitter take on everything and James' frankness. Very few bands merit a collection of "dumb-things-we-said-to-the-press" book, but MSP do.

The musings of Richey, Nicky, Sean and James
If you've read all their interviews you probably have read the book in its entirety. Still, I think it's worth a read--it arranges the quotes in sections which keep the quotes related. And it contains the sentences that you may have missed buried in a hefty paragraph, but which spring out on you when they are isolated on the page. A great book.

Nicky, James, Richey & Sean at their very best
This book is simply a collection of quotes from the Manics. If you`re a fan you will love reading the toughts and theories of Nicky, James, Richey & Sean at their very best.If you`re not a fan, why not?

Drummond's Gift
Most of Drummond's writings are filled with optimism and a "just do it" attitude. This is no exception. Probably dated and localized for a U.K. audience, I found it a great read nonetheless.

There's no business
These guys are what we should all aspire to be. They've burnt one million pounds, walked to the north pole to sacrifice a tiny picture of Elvis, worked with norwegian comics' grand old man Øystein Runde sr, nailed 100 000 pounds to a piece of wood and sold it for 50 000 pounds, and now they're going to sell you the ticket to one-hit-wonderland. A pop hit is guaranteed if you follow their instructions. Really. Guaranteed.

Now, go and make mom some pop.

Genius!
"The Manual" is a golden relic of that late '80s/early-'90s era when UK pop singles were utterly disposable, throwaway pieces of trash concocted by virtually anybody who had the nerve, back when the charts were a playground for the glorious marriage of daft imagination and studio techno-trickery. It's a period piece, for sure, but an oddly timeless one. Structured as a literal step-by-step manual, the book serves as a means for Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty to de-mystify the whole pop process in a series of riveting chapters that effortlessly switch from the achingly funny to the utterly banal. Whether describing the characteristics of studio employees, the virilent ignorance and wrongs of the music industry, or the genius and consummate artistry of Pete Waterman, the writing is consistently gripping, achingly literate and frequently hilarious. That this is due largely to the authors' honest and refreshingly un-ironic enthusiasm and passion for the simple joys of trashy, three-minute pop is almost besides the point. The point being, "you CAN conquer the pop charts if you want to, and here's how to go about doing it". As much situationist propaganda as a genuine 'how to' guide, Drummond & Cauty's page-turning witticisms seem hellbent on elevating such trashy thrills almost to a level of high-art. And it's a convincing argument, especially when pointing out that the lyrics to Kylie Minogue's "I Should Be So Lucky" are, to people of a certain persuasion, invested with more meaning than the complete works of Shakespeare. Or, in this case, Morrissey. The book even comes punctuated with a do-it-yourself guarantee, stating that if following the manual to the letter does not grant you a hit single within a year of purchase, you'll get a refund. All in all, a bizarre, engrossing, informative, hilarious, thoroughly worthwhile read.
