most helpful book so far
Now that the condition called "pre-diabetic" has been recognized by the medical profession, even more people need information on meals, recipes and menu planning to aid in blood glucose control. I have just recently been diagnosed as pre- or "borderline" diabetic. Pre-diabetes and diabetes are medical conditions that are vastly under the control of the patient. We have all heard that losing weight and increasing exercise are vital to controlling diabetes. At this point I have read about six books on diabetes and this one is by far the best. Some of the books were a complete waste of money, in my opinion; for example, "Tell Me What to Eat if I Have Diabetes" was for processed and fast food junkies. All of the books present information on goals for blood glucose levels, what are carbohydrates, etc. But for me, I needed help with menu planning, balancing proteins, carbos, fats, calories, increasing fiber, etc.

"The Diabetes Bible" does have workable recipes - the ones I have made were very tasty. The biggest shock comes when you actually measure the serving sizes specified. A 4-ounce apple did not exist in my grocery store - they were all 8 ounces. So, if you follow their menu plans (I used the 1,200 to 1,400 calorie plan), you can eat only half that apple. It is amazing how small a half-cup portion of cooked vegetables is or two ounces of lean protein is an incredibly tiny piece (I once virtuously ate a small fish fillet, only to find out that I had consumed "four exchanges"). And one cup of milk is only a few swallows.

My biggest complaint about the book is that many menus rely on reduced fat cheeses, "lite" sour cream and margarine, although they do admit you can used the real thing, but (obviously) eat even less of it.

It is no lie to say that controlling pre-diabetes or diabetes is a heck of a lot of work. Given the risks of not controlling these conditions - eye damage, peripheral neuropathy, risk of heart attack and stroke - patient motivation to lose weight, increase exercise, control blood pressure and blood glucose, reduce cholesterol, etc. should be high, but it certainly is no day at the beach. The "Diabetes Bible" at least gave me some place to start.

More than one hundred healthful and tasty dishes
In The Diabetes Food & Nutrition Bible: A Complete Guide To Planning, Shopping, Cooking, And Eating, Hope Warshaw and Robyn Web effectively collaborate to draw upon their more than twenty years experience with the challenges of a diabetic lifestyle. They provide the reader with a wealth of information on how to turn out more than one hundred healthful and tasty dishes for the diabetic -- meal time dishes that will be enthusiastically received by their non-diabetic friends and family members as well. All aspects of sound and nutritious cuisine for the diabetic is covered including the what to look for and what to avoid with respect to canned and prepared foods from the supermarket, portion control and the role it plays in a healthy eating plan for diabetics; five "Nutrition Superstars" that compliment any diabetic diet; and the diabetes meal plan based on building blocks of healthful eating for people with diabetes. No diabetics's reference shelf and cookbook collection can be considered complete without the inclusion of The Diabetes Food & Nutrition Bible!

Nice for what I need...
Very easy to look up many commands with this book, and it's small making it easy to take around...Definitely not the complete reference for Dos, but no one should expect that from an "Instant Reference."

Best to use
For the novice or the technician, this is the best book to use. I have had this book since '94 and still refer to it today. It is a lot of information on MS-DOS crammed into one book, yet it is small in size (fits nicely in my briefcase).

Just what I need.
Why to buy a book on MS DOS when everybody works with Windows? Take off the Windows Logo and boot your Windows 95/98. Look at boot messages and you will understand that the underlying operating system is actually MS DOS. So, if you are a beginner and you want to understand the fundamentals of your PC's system software, you need some knowledge on MS DOS. Not too much, but you need to understand DOS design and to know some of the DOS commands, the most important DOS utilities and how to create BAT-files. All this information is available in this book. If you are an experienced programmer and you need a good reference book on MS DOS, you will be satisfied as well. "DOS 6.2 Instance Reference" contains all needed reference material in alphabetically organized entries and you find easy what you want.

It's Old but It Still Works
If you are running Dos on your computer this is a great book to get started with. I would recommend this book if you were only running Dos. If you are using Windows as an operating system, this book will help you understand Dos better, but I would not recommend buying it. The reason being is that there are alot of commands that you can not use in this book under MS-DOS, which is what Windows is running over. Kris Jamsa does a great job of explaining all the commands that a beginner would have no touble understanding. I'm a beginner myself. I have a great understanding of Dos now that I didn't before I read this book. This book would be a great learning tool for a person running Windows on their computer, but I would recommend buying a book more related to MS-DOS for your studies.

It is definitely complete!
Although this book is old, DOS hasn't changed much and almost everything in here still works. As big as it is you don't have to read every little thing to at last know what to do at the MS-Dos/command prompt on your computer. You're taught the basics and then you can look up anything you need that Dos can do.

Excellent Command Line Reference
Though DOS seems to be next on the endangered species list, Kris Jamsa breaths new life into this sometimes cryptic OS. Unfortunately, this edition only covers versions through DOS 6.0. The definitions and examples are thoroughly explained in plain english. The Command Reference chapter really breaks down the sometimes arcane syntax that you would find in the MS users manuals into easily understandable examples. This is a MUST HAVE reference for anyone who has the urge to jump into the realm of the Command Line.

Read this book if you want to comfortably retire .
This is must reading for all individuals who want to develop sound financial habits. While many of us know where we want to go, this practical book guides us on the journey for financial success and provides us the Biblical basis for that journey. Regardless of your religious preference, this book will serve as a road map to achieve whatever you want if you are willing to be disciplined in your pursuit. If I had to suggest two books on personal financial managment, I would recommend buying Money Came By The House The Other Day and reading it twice! Dr. Neil Baum, M.D. New Orleans, Louisiana

Solid Financial Direction and Sound Biblical Foundations
This book was read through in two sittings. The first read was to get a feel for what the author had to say about financial planning. The second was to see if the Biblical foundations were really there. I couldn't have been more impressed. This book is solid and sound on both fronts. Anyone looking for a nuts-and-bolts approach to getting their financial act together need not look elsewhere. This book has all you need to identify your area(s) of concern and get the information required to get your boat afloat and the wind in your sails. God's message to those willing to listen is ever-present and sound. You cannot come away from reading this book without realizing that the author is truly dedicated to helping his fellow man -- through sound financial direction with an eye focused on God's message Christians everywhere.

Where Did The Money Go
This is an outstanding book, a must read for every Christian and Non-Christian who is serious about getting their finances under control. The earlier in life a person reads this book the better they will understand the statement. "Where Did The Money Go"

The ultimate handbook for occupatonal therapists!
As an OT you are often in doubt of what to do for your cliet. This book helps you to gather your knowledge and focus it on the actual problem. Almost everything is there. A great book to get ideeas! But don't take it for a bible. Remember - You have to add yor own exprinces and, perhaps,a'lot of other sources to solve the problem. Never forget you and your knowledge is the most valuable resource for your client.

This is a wonderful book
This book has been very informative. It has an abundance of information. As a new grad I refer to this book often and I have found it very helpful.

A "must" for OT students!
As a current OT student, this book is wonderful! The pictures and the understandable language is great!! This book helps with the understanding of the OT profession. I only hope that you get out of it what I have!!

Storyline info
The Mysterious Outlaw...

Raw physical power had never appealed to Edwina Moody--until she was mesmerized by the man in black leather known as Diablo! Hired to find the missing heir to a fortune, she'd followed his trail to Blackie's Bar, where she risked facing a fierce biker club in search of her quarry. When the sexy, emerald-eyed outlaw rescued her from an overeager biker, he tantalized and frightened her...then dared her to make a reckless alliance, a bargain with the devil himself!

Diablo needed a lady partner to go undercover with the Warlords, and Edwina would never collect the fee that would save her family's home unless she joined forces with this irresistible rebel who taught her just how seductive freedom could be. His rough, thrilling kises branded her safe from everyone but him--but he knew his forbidden love could destroy her, Edwina longed to possess the untamable, vulnerable Diablo. Could she capture the wolf, then set him free of the past.

Ride or Research?
If Ms. Forster didn't actually ride, she did a great job on research. I do ride and I felt like I was there at every turn. The characters and feelings were vivid and her ending was just as I hoped it would be.

No Fridge Cooking
If you want to live without a fridge, this is the book. Makes living without a fridge easy for anyone. Also cooking with woodstoves covered.

Great use of home storage with or without electricity
This cookbook is good for anyone serious about implementing a home food storage program, as well as anyone enjoying "old fashioned" or outdoor cooking. When starting home storage, I wondered what I would ever do with all that wheat and powdered milk, which are two of the foundation blocks of most storage programs. This cookbook has some very good, diverse recipes, with the added advantage of being usable in the event of power outages, however this type of cooking is tricky and is best learned before it is a necessity. Furthermore, I like this book because some of the recipes remind me of the types of things my grandmother and mother used to cook (steamed puddings, Boston Brown Bread) and that's also fun for the kids, even though time consuming for me. Some recipes are very simplistic (like PB and What? Sandwich), but the point is to list the nutritional values so that one could figure out a complete diet not lacking in anything just from very basic ingredients.

Florida Landscape Plants
This is a worthwhile book for a number of reasons, however, it has one major omission. The positive factors: 1) Excellent plant descriptions including details like salt tolerance level; 2) wonderful (and most appreciated) treatment of botanic names by giving the pronunciation and derivation of the Latin words (Thanks!). The omission concerns color photographs of the plants discussed. The publisher included a few color pages of plant drawings which are mostly useless and confusing. A good garden book needs to have extensive color photographs. I am sure that the author would agree!!

The absolute last word on Florida Landscape Plants!
This is the text book used to teach horticulture classes and plant identification at the University of Florida. All Horticulture graduates and Landscape Architecture graduates at UF have studied from this book. Dr.s Watkins and Sheehan have put more than 5 decades of combined Florida horticultural expertise into this book.

A beast of a book
Reilly has a well-formed beginning and middle, but the end feels rushed and incomplete. So many different characters are introduced that there is little time to see them develop. The illustrations nicely complement the story and may help those with struggling imaginations or who read so slowly that they forget the story. The illustrations are spread through the text very well - it is never more than two or three pages before the next one. This means young readers will be turning pages more often and feel they are making progress. The story deals with some children who are sent out of the classroom for remedial reading. This may encourage readers older than my suggested late first to early third grade level.

Why 3 stars?:
The story is completely plot-driven. Even at this beginning stage of reading children are still capable of meaningful discussion of what they are reading, but this book doesn't provide much material for it. If kids don't associate the higher thinking that comes from reading, it will be viewed as a chore and they will no longer enjoy it. This book does not encourage students to get excited about reading, or share it with others.

The Beast in Ms. Rooney's Room
I thought this book was excellent because in the end Beast did his best! In the beginning, Beast was not paying attention. Beast was a left-back. I really liked when Beast helped his class to win the banner.

Book #1--good basis for the Polk Street Series
Giff set this series off to a good start with this book 1. I read it when I was 9. It came in the mail from Weekly Reader Books (my dad sent away for those for me!) Every month I got books in the mail and this was one of them. At the time I didn't know it was a series, though.

A year after reading this book I could feel for Richard "Beast" when I, too, was left back (it was for circumstances beyond my control, but still!) In this book, Beast struggles to survive and fit in, suffers losing his friends, who advanced to the next grade and reject him. This book is so good!

An excellent refrerence material
This book serves as an excellent reference material for DOS users in addition to being a very good and comprehensive introduction to DOS for beginners. I found this book invaluable when I was trying to recollect arcane DOS terms and usages for instant use. This ranks as one of the best books on DOS that I have come across.

If you need to learn DOS this is the one.
If, for some reason, you need to learn an older version of DOS, this is an excellent book by itself or in conjunction with a course. There is a small exercise book that is available and it complements the book. Each chapter is written in an easy to follow manner and if you have the exercise book, you can test yourself too. DOS by itself doesn't hold the same importance as it once did, but its an important starting point if you seriously want to begin a career in IT.
