College Educator's opinion
I find this book to be an excellent referral however, i'd prefer to see a revised edition. The statistics are outdated but the story is excellent.

A book every woman should read
If you know someone who is going off to college or moving out on her own, recovering from a divorce or anything ~~ or simply because you love her, this is a book I highly recommend for you to give to her. It talks about date rape/acquaintance rape ~~ a subject that isn't talked about very often ~~ and you will find resources in this book to help a survivor recover ~~ or even to prevent a rape from happening. And I recommend young men reading this book too. It shows the other side of rape ~~ a man may think that a woman "teased" him and that she really wanted it ~~ but oftentimes, it leaves lasting scars ~~ not just on the victims but also on the rapists too. Both men and women need to be educated on what date rape is ~~ it is more common than people think.

When a woman says no, a man is trained by society that she really means yes ~~ but that isn't the case. Rape is when a sexual act is committed against a woman's will ~~ even if she knows her attacker. It's downright disturbing and there are many women who have survived date rape. Did you know that "stranger rape" occurs very rarely but "acquaintance rape" occurs more often? Also, did you know that even if a woman stops dating a man, he can still rape her? There are all kinds of stories in this book that the author shares with the reader to warn them of this issue.

This book will share with you how to recognize the danger signals and how to prevent a rape from happening. If it happens, there is advice on what to do next. It explores the statistics of numerous studies performed on this topic and it's downright scary. But there are people fighting it and so can you. Just read this book, and pass it on. I truly believe every woman going off to college or moving out on her own or even entering her teen years should have a copy of this. It shouldn't be a topic to ignore ~~ it should be talked about and shared ~~ it is a serious issue and one that every woman needs to be aware of.

I have a young cousin going off to college and this is one book I would like to send to her. For all you moms, dads, grandmas, aunts, sisters, cousins, friends should think of the young women (and young men) in your family or circle of friends and think of how you should arm them with knowledge on how to prevent acquaintance rape from happening. But not only women need to read this book, men should too. They should sit down with their sons and tell them that "no means no." And that they should resist pressure from other men in raping a woman. Acquaintance rape is very damaging to women and to men as well. It wreaks havoc on the fragile fabric of society itself.

Pick it up ~~ I don't think you'll regret it as one can never have too much information about a topic like this one.

I really was raped!
This book is wonderful!!!! It was because of this book that I realized that what happened to me was indeed rape and as I result I decided to press charges against my rapist and he will be spending years behind bars. I didn't know that coersion was rape!
In June of 2002 I was raped by a boyfriend . . somebody who I thought loved me. While being raped my boyfriend told me that I was a slut, that I teased him, that I got what I wanted and it was his turn to get what he wanted, that if I loved him I would have sex with him. For six hours he tried to convince me to have sex with him!! I kept saying no that I didn't want to do anything beyond kissing. I just got so upset confused about everything and the next thing I no he's on top of me and raping me and I felt so guilty. The rape was mostly through coersion but there was little force. I thought that it was my fault and he was just kinda horney. I mean I thought rapist drugged their victims, used a gun or other weapon, and rape was only through penis/vagina sex. But it isn't I was digitally penetrated(like 10 times) which is rape!!!! I would have not realized this is if weren't for reading this book. I put a sick rapist behind bars and I thank this book for giving me the understanding and courage to do it.
Fellow rape victims lets break the silence: lets speak out agaisnt rape!!! Report the crime to the police if not for yourself but for the next victim...And please read I Never Called It Rape

Can put you to sleep.
I found a lot of valuble information, but this was after I weeded through some A&P 101 review and other things I think were of a very basic knowledge.Could get a little dry.
Good for the graduate or student nurse.

orientation
This is a very good teaching tool for RN's new to a NICU, and also a reference for experienced NICU RN's. The 2002 version includes some added information.

A must have for any neonatal nurse

Excellent Guide to the Command Line
This book was an extremely valuable tool in gaining a complete understanding of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Command Line interface, and various other facets to the Windows operating system. It makes a great handbook for quick answers to quick questions, and is perfect for beginners to the Command Line, with all of the tutorials, and step by step examples. I only wish that these two authors would write a similarly detailed, yet introductory book on the UNIX operating system, seeing as there aren't many excellent books on such a topic for novices.

Good Instructors Write Good Books
I have taken classes from both Harry and Eric. It is true that good instructors write good books. I found this book to be exceedingly thorough. The Table of Contents, Glossary, Index and Task Reference make it easy to look up any subject because they were so complete. I think there were only a couple things I couldn't find in the index (sorry I can't remember what they were). The content of the book is also very complete. The information is presented so that even a computer novice like me can easily learn the subject. The content is presented in a linear, organized manner. The only thing I can say on the negative side is that sometimes the book is so thorough as to be almost tedious but that is what also makes the book good to learn from. Keep up the good work guys.

one step backwards to steps forward
This is the best step-by-step book on the DOS command line that I have ever come across. I have been trying to get a basic understanding of the DOS command line, and this book gave me what I was looking for. It also has a great amount of information about Processors and the differences between the Microsoft operating systems. I have tried to get a handle on DOS using the various quick learning books without much success. This was the first book that gave me what I was looking for. I was very intimidated by the DOS prompt before reading this book. After reading this book I feel very comfortable with the DOS prompt. I learned some of the DOS command line techniques, using the different switches and directories, it gave me a much greater understanding of what's behind the Windows Interface. The last three chapters go much further than I expected. It goes into the heart of networking and TCP\IP protocols. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in understanding the nuts and bolts of the DOS command line prompt.

Very highly recommended
Tidy, precise, inhibited Jane Dobson lived very deliberately, from her seven cashew lunch to her skirts that rode up her thigh so much and no more. While she held the position of ad secretary for Charles Warren, Jane is actually a dreamer, who lives most of her life lost in fantasy. She carefully disguises her inner sensuality until one day a two pound plaster Cupid falls on her head.

In the emergency room, Jane struggles to remember her identity. Rather that her own, she latches onto the first name that comes to mind; that is, Jane Dobson claims to be Holly Baskin. The name comes from a personal ad her boss asked her to place in a magazine. Charles believes it's time to marry and assure an heir to the family business. He doesn't quite recall why he and Holly broke up, but he does recall liking her no nonsense approach to life. So when Jane waltzes into his board room, calling herself Holly and blithely announcing their engagement to everyone present, amidst some very heated kissing, Charles is stunned. But no more stunned than by his best friend's advice to go along with this new "Holly" for a while. The question remains as to whether these two lost souls can heal -- together.

When one woman's fantasy romance becomes an unlikely reality, Jo Leigh's MS. TAKEN provides one of the most improbably, highly delightful romances I have ever read. Leigh combines the outrageous with the humorous to create a wonderfully light heart romance filled with possibilities. Indeed, MS. TAKEN has brilliant characters that come to life in this splendid, sexy romance. I found myself completely swept away, sneaking by book in my pocket during breaks at work because I had to know what happens next. Imagine my very sober office mates as I burst out in uninhibited laughter! Very highly recommended.

MS TAKEN showcases the fertile imagination of Jo Leigh!
Ms. Leigh continues the miniseries "The Personal Touch" with this sassy story of Jane Dobson and her attractive employer, Charles Warren. These protagonists are very vulnerable and it takes a conk on the head by a plaster cupid to bring them together.

Jane Dobson is the youngest of the four Dobson girls, and the only one that isn't famous. Her oldest sister Pru is a world-renowned concert violinist; second sister Felicity is a best selling author; and the next sister, Darra, is one of the world's top models. Darra and three other supermodels also own a chain of very upscale restaurants. Jane, however, is just Jane, a very sensitive, sweet, free spirit and somewhat of a loner. Jane works in the secretarial pool of a firm owned by Charles Warren and spends her time daydreaming about Charley and how much he loves her.

Charles Warren is nearly thirty-two years of age and has decided that he needs to marry and start a family. For the last few years he has given up his life to make a go of the company his father left him. The only woman in his life has been his mother, and she is a hand full. Holly Baskin was the last woman that Charles had a relationship with, but he has lost track of her. Charles decides that running an ad in the trendy Attitudes Magazine for Holly to contact him would be his best way of finding her.

Jane can't believe that her Charley would have to advertise for a woman. Who is this "Holly Baskin, late of Vassar"? Jane dutifully types up the ad and takes it to the magazine office on her lunch hour. On her way back to the office Jane is hit on the head by a falling plaster head of Cupid and ends up in the emergency room. When she regains consciousness, she believes that she is Holly Baskin and against medical advice leaves the hospital to rush to her Charley. Jane/Holly bursts into Charles'/Charley's office in her torn clothes and shredded hose, plants a big kiss on him, and stuns not only the love of her life, but the men gathered there to discuss a multi-million dollar deal. She finally leaves, but not before she grabs Charles'/Charley's credit card and the keys to his apartment.

David Levinson is Charles' best friend and a psychiatrist. Charles frantically gets in touch with David and explains that to the best of his knowledge one of his secretaries has gone crazy and asks the good doctor to go to his apartment and try to find out what is going on. David knows Jane pretty well since he always chats with her when he comes to Charles' office. When he gets the true story of her accident David convinces Charles that it is best to play along with the Holly persona until the amnesia Jane is suffering passes. Charles is appalled at this idea, but considering that the artifice that caused Jane's accident fell off his building thus technically making it his responsibility, he has no choice. David feels that Jane is the free spirit that his friend needs in his life.

The author has a lot of fun with her characters. Charles does need Jane in his life, but it takes a lot to make him aware of this fact. It takes all of his strength and willpower just to keep his hands off this woman who has moved into his apartment and into his heart. MS. TAKEN is a fun read and showcases the fertile imagination and talents of Jo Leigh.

Gardens of New Orleans: Exquisite Excess

Fragrant. Lush. Seductive. Can these words describe any city other than New Orleans? With new plant life bursting from every cranny and ancient cypress trees, the gardens here present many unusual combinations of freshness and decay. Gardens of New Orleans has captured this magnificence in full glory, with page after page of beautifully green photographs.

Authors Lake Douglas and Jeannette Hardy include historical sketches, maps, and photographs that provide an informative introduction to the city. The outdoor French Market photographs show piles of fruit you can almost taste, even if the picture is in sepia tones. The section on public spaces follows, bringing glossy color photos of charming statuary and enormous live oaks that are memorable both for their size and grace. The final chapter is filled with close-up shots of many private gardens in the city, and show off the best New Orleans has to offer: peaceful balconies, bright flowers, antique ornaments, and artfully trimmed hedges. The lovely Ursiline convent is included in this section, with its glowing white statues and peaceful paths for meditation.

In every case, photographer Richard Sexton has captured the remarkable light as it filters through the trees. His close-ups clearly show the vines and sprouts popping up between bricks and under older plants, while his landscapes showcase both the heavy greenery and the well-known cast-iron decorations on houses, fences, and furniture. Whether you're a New Orleans native or simply love impossibly green gardens, this lovely book will bring the rich flavor of this charming city to your living room. --Jill Lightner

excellent resource
I am fortunate enough to have Lake Douglas as an instructor. He has forgotten more about landscape architecture than most people will ever know. I love going to his class because he has a genuine passion for the subject and almost limitless knowledge. Buy this book. You won't be disappointed.

Can't wait to start on my own "New Orleans" garden
I bought this book hoping to get some ideas on how to make my backyard into a New Orleans garden oasis and this book delivered. Not only is it a helpful resource for gardeners (it has a chart of commonly used plants in New Orleans gardens), but it also is nice to just leaf through and look at the pictures. My only gripe is that there weren't enough gardens featured.

For lovers of gardening- it captures the heart & imagination
I was fortunate enough to find this book in a wonderful little garden shop tucked away inside the French Quarter of New Orleans. If you've never visited and seen their charming style and beauty first hand, this book is filled with superb photographs that come to life, with a wealth of great information about the homes and gardens you really will feel like you're there. For any lover of gardening, New Orleans simply transcends conventional time and space, capturing all of the senses and inspiring the heart and the imagination like no place else in the world. . .from the petite cottages to the elaborate plantations, there is garden for every home and every occassion! Tres-magnifique!!!

Great, and Very Complete
Peter Norton has done a great job explaining DOS 6.22. This book is not filled with jokes or stories and does a great job explaining everything in detail. It guides you along allowing you to practice all of the commands and techniques you will learn. It is written so any beginner can understand. For anyone who wants to learn DOS or basic computer management this is a great book.

Excellent Coverage Of Batch Files
I was looking for a book that provided in depth information about batch files and I found exactly what I was looking for. Peter Norton does an excellent job of explaining DOS in a simple to follow format. This is a must read for anyone involved in supporting end users, specially those who have used Windows exclusively and have very limited knowledge of DOS. Many of the concepts explained in this book are used today in different versions of Windows. It will help fill in the gaps when it comes to understanding and utilizing the command line, which is a must for any IT professional.

Worth buying just for the chapters on script writing
I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who wants to learn the basics of computer management and script writing. Even if you never use any of the information about the various DOS commands and functions (although many of them apply to Windows 2000) the book is worth the purchase price for the chapters on writing batch files. Don't be fooled by the chapter titles -- while ostensibly teaching you how to write batch files this book is really providing the best overview of computer scripting I have ever found.

I have owned this book for around 5 years and have never found a better source for the fundamental priciples of script writing. I rarely use batch files now, but the techniques Norton describes here are completely applicable to Windows and UNIX scripting languages like Autoit, WSH, and Bash. I have recommended this book, and others by Norton, to people trying to make the transition from causual user to computer expert.

The best!
Cindy Renfrow has done a wonderful job with this book. It is one of the best references a reenactment cook could have in his or her collection...it was one of the first in mine! It provides actual recipes and then a translation and a redaction. Cindy Renfrow's redactions are well thought out and reasonable. Not only that, lots of the recipes actually taste good and appeal to modern palates!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Medieval cooking and who wants to explore further the wonders of the medieval thought processes concerning food.

A favorite mideval resource
This is a favorite medival resource of mine. The recipes do come with documentation. There is a wide variety of recipes. The recipes are well written, and are easy to follow. There is a great deal of documentation with each recipe along with the recipe in its original form. This is a definate must purchase if you enjoy historical cooking.

Wonderful Books!
These books allowed me to win first prize at the Feast! I was so pleased to have won and I could not have done so without the help of Ms. Renfrow! Clear easy to follow instructions and wonderful results. I highly recommend these books to everyone.

101 Nutrition Tips for People with Diabetes
Found this book to be very basic. This book would only serve someone who had not read and did not know anything about diabetes. It would be good for a teen. Did not feel it was worth the money I paid.

Appealing and informative
From types of fiber which may help blood sugar levels to both new drugs and natural treatments for diabetes,101 Nutrition Tips For People With Diabetes provides question-and-answer format tips for everything from weight control and sugars to fat replacers and exercise. The slim appearance and easy format will appeal to those who need quick bits of information.

Just diagnosed in Seattle
I was just recently diagnosed with diabetes a month ago. One of the first things I did was head to the bookstore and library. This was the first book I purchased. It simply explains EVERYTHING I needed to know about the nutritional needs and concerns of a diabetic. It helped to make what I thought a complicated and scary situation a lot easier to understand. THANK YOU!

I have since purchased the "The Diabetes Carbohydrate and Fat Gram Guide" as well. I carry this book with me wherever I go.
