An invaluable resource
When I searched for a wildflower guide specific to the central south, I never expected to find such a thorough and helpful book. Whether you hike the hills and actively hunt for wildflowers, or simply want to know what's growing in your backyard, Wildflowers of the Central South is an indispensable field guide. I've recommended this book to garden clubs and wildflower preservation groups all over the south.

Excellent step-by-step instructions on DOS in Win environs.
I was lucky to find this book! It goes through logical step-by-step activities (with disk) that makes DOS understandable and interesting. Lots of experiments, tests and reviews. The concept of teaching the user how to use DOS command line while working in Win95/98 is a welcome and sharp one. Thanks!

windows users guide to dos: windows 2000 professional
This book has the most usefull content that I have ever read during my thirty years of both computer use and teaching computer use. The context brings it all together in a pleasing to read manor. This type of book is usally dry and boring, but the authors have made it a fun and interesting way to learn the subject. If you have to learn about DOS in Windows 2000 Professional this is the book to read. After reading the book I searched for and found other books by Carolyn Z. Gillay. I found them to be just as interesting as this one.

Elegant analysis of timely topic
This is a wonderful book providing a fresh perspective on the history of this all important magazine. Farrell lucidly analyzes the tensions that this publication faced as it became the most recognized publication to emerge out of the feminist movement in the United States over the past 30 years. She coins the term "popular feminism" in this book to describe what Ms. set out to accomplish. She uses this term seriously and addresses its implications with care, neither condemning the magazine or its publishers for seeking a mass audience, nor naively celebrating Ms. as a "true" mouthpiece of women everywhere. On the contrary, her text reveals the complexity of this idea: the difficult, and ultimately impossible, negotiations between commercial and social interests that the magazine attempted to negotiate, the possibilities created by a mass media periodical that addressed its audiences as political subjects, and the claim that readers made to make the magazine their own. Farrell's brilliant account of the history of Ms. comes at an important time as the publication has recently hit hard times. Some have argued that the magazine serves no useful purpose anymore, even that feminism is dead. After reading Farrell's book, it is clear to me that neither is true, and that both Ms. and feminism are involved in complex cultural dialogues and are continually evolving.

absolutley awesome and indepth book on DOS!
To be blunt ive read many books on DOS since ,well since DOS has been around. The author of this book is awesome and clear and precise in the way he explores the world of DOS and the Operating System itself. Thanx amazon.

Immense Value For Windows Users
Many people started using personal computers after Windows had replaced DOS and as such are only familiar with Graphical User Interface and drag and drop features. But when the GUI fails, and command line action is required, they are completely lost. This book is an excellent manual and reference on DOS. It provides a history of DOS and its underlying concepts to the degree of informing and not inundating the user. The explanation of different commands includes the DOS version and the function of the related switches. A chapter is devoted to batch files, which is of interest in writing scripts. Other sections describe DOS components such as command.com and autoexec.bat, 8.3 file naming convention and many other useful topics. Understanding of DOS is crucial to anyone seeking to configure and troubleshoot any version of Windows. A saying goes: "DOS is dead", but when Windows fails, it is DOS (Windows command line) that will save the day!

Still crazy after all these years...
With most new systems shipped with Win2K or ME, some people question whether knowledge of MS-DOS is still a viable, marketable skill. It could very well be, if you're one of these people:

A hot-shot network admin whose first job duties are to compose login scripts and set up a NetWare server;

A power gamer trying to get old favorites to run on a new box;

A beginning programmer wondering why their code works on their machine, but won't run correctly or even install on other PCs;

A clueless new user who has done something horribly wrong, recoiling in terror because there's nothing but a "C" on the screen AND THE MOUSE DOESN'T WORK!

If you're one of these people - that is, if you own a PC - you will eventually have to come to terms with the DOS command line. There is no finer book in print than this one to prepare you for that task - no others are needed, no others come close.

Bible for Single Relationships
One of my goals in life is to continually improve myself as a person. Every once in a while, I find a philosophy, concept, or book that greatly enhances my improvement process. Amy's book does this for me. Unlike many self-help books that belabor a subject, Amy describes her lessons in simple but direct terms. She goes straight to the point and does not over-write the subject.

Having been in quite a few relationships over many years, I have read many books about the single life. Take Heart! is one of the best. Buy the book, read it, use it as a tool for improving your relationships, re-read the book from time to time. I think you will be amazed that Amy's lessons will change your life.

Take Heart! Stories of Encouragement for Singles, PLUS 10 Lessons You'll Need to Find Mr. or Ms. Right by Amy M. Owens has become my bible for relationships.

It Works!
When I opened "Take Heart! Stories of Encouragement," I thought I'd take time to read at least one chapter. A couple hours later, I had finished the book and immediately made a list of words to describe my Mr. Right. Just a few days later, a wonderful man entered my life.

Amy has the innate ability to blend practicality with idealism, which inspired me, (a happily-single-for-over-25-years-Ms.), to prepare myself for participating in romance with enthusiasm and joyfulness. Just a few days after completing my list, a wonderful man entered my life. Thanks, Amy, for sharing your insight and wisdom with us! Way to go, Coach.

Encouraging and practical
This book gives you a great set of guidelines on how to get ready for and start a relationship with potential for the long term. It also helps put in perspective how to view the downsides of dating.

In addition, the example stories help bring home the lessons. It's a great guidebook for dating right.

Stealth Health: How to Sneak Nutrition Painlessly into Your Diet
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (January, 2000)
Author: Evelyn, Ms. Tribole
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $1.55
Collectible price: $12.71
Buy one from zShops for: $1.54
Using the many tricks up her sleeve, nutritionist Evelyn Tribole can get just about anyone to eat healthy. Hate the thought of tofu? Try her Chocolate Marble Cheesecake, with tofu replacing some of the cream cheese. Her daughter did, and now she's a convert. Don't want to add fiber because it sounds so bland? Try her Dark Fudge Brownies, with puréed black beans giving each brownie as much fiber as a slice of whole wheat bread.

With more than 100 recipes that sneak fiber, calcium, and other nutrients into the diet, Stealth Health can turn even the most devoted junk food junkie into a health nut. For "vegetable haters" there's Chicken Chile Verde, which features finely chopped spinach masquerading as green chilis. For "fruit skimpers," try the Purple Cow sMOOthie with mixed berries and nonfat frozen yogurt. And if you're a "milk miser," drink up your calcium in the delicious form of Home Express Coffee Latte. (Tribole came up with these and other labels to describe nutritional problem areas, and you can take her diagnostic quiz to find out which one fits you.)

Each of the book's eight chapters features recipes, nutritional information, and charts showing five ways to "sneak" healthy foods into meals. And if you still need more convincing, Tribole weaves in the scientific evidence for the role of nutritious foods in fighting everything from cancer to osteoporosis to heart disease. Tribole, who has celebrity clients and has appeared on Good Morning America, says the way to get finicky children to eat healthy is to whip up one of her recipes without telling them the ingredients. "This approach works well with adults, too," she writes. "The basis of Stealth Health cooking is tasting is believing."

Average review score:

Healthy, yes; simple, no.
The recipes in this book are healthy but they are not neccessarily easy or quick to prepare. If you are cooking for others they may be fooled by the "sneak" ingredients but after all the shopping, chopping, & measuring entailed in preparing these dishes, the cook sure won't be fooled. Many recipes are very difficult to prepare without a food processor and some ingredients are not to be found in the average grocery store. I was hoping for recipes that required less preparation & simpler ingredients. The book was not a total dissappointment; the recipes were tasty but if you are looking for shortcuts to good nutrition, look elsewhere.

Moms, Nutritionists, Dieters--Everybody Buy This Book
This book is by far the best book on eating healthfully. Why? Because Evelyn teaches you how to sneak "good food" (veggies, fiber, even soy) into "normal food". Yeah, we all know we should eat cruciforous veggies, more fiber, some soy, fruits, etc. But we don't. Evelyn shows you ways to pump up the nutritional value of foods you like--in a way that you won't even notice. Adding black beans to brownies is one solution--and it works (adds fiber, phytochemicals) and the brownies taste good, not healthy. She teaches you to puree cauliflower into your potatoes, so that you get the boost of nutrition. (I HATE cauliflower, but I don't mind eating it this way). All in all, I can't wait for more Stealth Health recipes. If you have kids, doubting husbands, or just plain don't like the taste of healthy food, buy this book. :) If you do like healthy food, this book will amaze you with how good healthy eating can taste.

Yummy and Healthy
I have been wanting to purchase this book for a long time. However, I have been disappointed with other books that promised great tasting recipes for health and didn't want to waste more money. Finally,I decided to purchase Stealth Health through the used section of Amazon.com, which was a very good experience in itself. The good experience did not end there. Every recipe we have tried from this book has been delicious!!! My husband does not eat bran cereal, but did in The Date Nut Bran Muffins and didn't even know it(still doesn't know it). I used dates and nuts in half of the batch for my taste and raisins in the other half for his. I really dislike cauliflower, but couldn't even tell it was in the Twice-Baked Potatoes-and I was the one that prepared the potatoes.Both of us enjoy rice pudding. The Golden Rice Pudding and all of the recipes can be enjoyed without feeling quilty. As for the other Healthy Cook Books purchased in the past-they will be donated to make room for other books written by Evelyn Tribole.

A very introductory set
I agree that Before Your Pregnancy can be helpful, if any experience with nutrition or a healthy lifestyle is limited. It covers the basics, but doesn't help too much with specifics. But the fact that it puts the responsiblity of parenting, before and during pregnancy, in the hands of mother and father is perhaps the best introduction it can provide.

A great resource for anyone who is planning for a pregnancy.
My husband and I strongly recommend the Before Your Pregnancy video and booklet! Everyone is full of advice about what to do while you are pregnant, but this video provides equally valuable information about what to do BEFORE you get pregnant. When future moms and dads consider what a big responsibility and undertaking pregnancy is, they will agree that we all need this pre-pregnancy information. As I sit here writing this review, I look over at my happy, healthy 8 week old, and I am VERY thankful that this video and booklet helped us make good decisions about preparing for pregnancy. My husband appreciated the information on what and how much we should be eating, how much exercise we should be getting, and specific things he could do to help with conception. The information continued to be useful because after I became pregnant I was morning sick and my husband could help make sure I was still eating the right things. Before Your Pregnancy is a valuable resource for anyone who is planning to start a family!!!

I LOVE TO READ BUT........
what I loved most about this was that I didn't have to! I love to read and loved the booklet that came with Amy's video, but I am busy. It was great to just sit down, watch the video, and in a very reasonable amount of time, be full of information and motivation. Best of all, my husband sat down and watched it with me (the second time! ) and he loved it, too. I can be pretty sure I would have read up on this topic but I know that my husband would not -- this way he didn't have to. We were both enlightened by the info regarding the need for men to get "fit for pregnancy" and it made it fun for us to work together. It was almost like having an expert on the subject sitting in our livingroom! Also, I enjoyed the recipes and the common sense ideas for adding "health and nutrition" to food I am already cooking - I really didn't have to alter my whole cooking style to follow Amy's recommendations. What I'd like to say to Amy Ogle is "THANKS! Watching your video was the easiest and most educational hour I (we! ) have had in front of the TV in a long time! It was worth every penny!"
