When I was trying to learn some Visual Basic programming, I did not know which book to get. So my friend recommended this to me, and I LOVE It. Every single step is accompanied by a figure, so you know exactly the interface you get when you select or click an item. There are only 14 chapters, and yet it's comprehensive. From program flow to database accessing to graphics, you name it, you got it. One thing I like the most is the hand-on programming examples at the end of each chapter and the solution is provided. And if you are looking for more chanllenge, there is case study (only hints are provided) that can help you better understand the material. So now I keep one handy and whenever my friend need some introduction to visual basic, this is the one I always recommend.

With "Ms. MacDonald Has a Class," author and illustrator Jan Ormerod has taken the old classic children's tune (complete with "E-I-E-I-O" chorus) and transplanted the entire thing to a preschool or kindergarten class in which the students study animals to get ready for portraying those same animals in the school play.

The rhythm of the text follows the Old MacDonald tune, as you might imagine. What makes the book special is that the illustrations have the same gaiety and bounciness that the tune does, melding them beautifully together. Color and shape and movement abound here, all culminating in a performance before family and friends that perfectly captures the energy of children this age. This book is such fun and a big success for Ms. Ormerod--it is that rare young children's book that is quite bountifully more than the sum of its parts.

I purchased this book 7 years ago in St. Louis on a business trip for my husband. Mary has a way of capturing what everyone needs to say to in her artwork. This book is a great momento or keepsake to share with Newlyweds or for Anniversary gifts!

Pals,by Mary Engelbreit is a great book to just read in the sunshine on a hot day. I have had the book for several years now and love to pull it out and read it peroidically!!

I have chosen to review this book in English for a very good reason. I run a computer training school in Northern California. We have had a flood of interest from a very large community of Spanish speaking clients that have been frustrated with traditional computer schools that only teach in English. The students all report that it is difficult enough learning Microsoft Office 2000 applications, but even more difficult with the language handicap. These books have leveled the playing field. Now our students can focus on the application in Spanish while learning English at another school. Our lectures are still in English, but these books make it very easy to follow along. We are all pleased with the ease and clarity in which the books are written. If you know of anyone that is struggling with both English and Office 2000, I highly recommend this book. The book comes along with a CD that has examples, audio clips, text and lessons, all in Spanish. As an added bonus, there is included, a copy of Windows 98 second edition that converts your installation of Windows 98 from English to Spanish, making the lessons very easy to follow. We advise our students to focus on learning how to use the applications, but most jobs here, at least, require at least a competent level of English comprehension.

The rhymes in this book are so sweet, but also fun to read to my daughter. And, the illustrations included are beautiful.

I'm a fan of many cartoonists, but none make me laugh out loud as often as John McPherson's panels. His humor in this book reminds me of Gary Larson, but connects more closely to everyday life. He sees the humor in reality so that he only occasionally has to twist it.
