I use it almost every week!
This is a well used and most appreciated addition to my cookbook library. I use it nearly every week. I can make old standbys for my kids and more 'grown up' pizzas for my husband and myself. Most recipes are fast and easy, and the results are great. Pizza is more that the usual cheese and tomato creations we're used to, and Mr. Food shows us how to enjoy all that variety while still having a life.

Inspirational!
This book has fabulous recipes for all types of pizza doughs and all types of pizza, from main dishes to dessert pizzas. The doughs range from quick and easy to slower and more complicated. I call this book inspirational because it inspired my husband to make pizza, too. That's what I call a great cookbook!

Make great pizza in your own kitchen.
My sons would eat pizza evey day, probably all day if they could get away with it. Delivery pizza, depending upon your area, can be expensive and some aren't very good. Or suppose you'd rather have deep dish pizza? This is the book for you!

Mr Food (Art Ginsburg) has over a hundred recipes for various pizzas - some you don't even have to use yeast for the recipe. And all the recipes have instructions that are clear and concise, making sure you know every step of the way what you are doing.

My all time favorite recipe in this book is the deep dish pizza recipe. I toss the stuff in the bread machine and let the machine do the work up to the baking part. Sometimes I add extra garlic or Parmesan cheese or even Italian sausage. Sometimes I use the recipe to actually make deep dish pizza. Often I use it to make our favorite breadsticks and it is just wonderful to use either way.

And if you're not a deep dish fan? Don't worry, there's lots of other recipes for you to try and enjoy. And it sure is a lot less expensive that calling out for pizza - in the time it takes you to whip up one of these recipes, the pizza guy will just be getting lost on his way to your place. So buy this book to save a few bucks and eat better pizza - it's definitely worth it.

Mr. Jellyroll: The Fortunes of Jellyroll Morton, New Orleans Creole and 'Inventor'
Published in Paperback by University of California Press (December, 1973)
Authors: Alan Lomax and David S. Martin
Amazon base price: $6.95
Used price: $6.99

Lives Up To The Hype; Essential
This is a straight reprint of the original...they actually photographed the pages instead of having it re-typeset, thank god...and all the David Stone Martin illustrations are intact.

This is THE classic on jazz music and writing. Crazy stories, crazy times, with the unbelievable spinner of tales Jelly Roll holding the floor. Lomax could have just printed Jelly's comments verbatim and this would've been great, but he went to the trouble of tracking down a bunch of people who knew Jelly or were otherwise around New Orleans in the early daze, and this added detail spices the pot considerably. Alan Lomax's own commentary and observations are witty, charming, and spot on.

This edition is made definitive by a scholarly afterword bringing the reader fully up-to-date on modern Jelly Roll research. Quite a few pertinent details are now known that weren't when Lomax was writing this.

Up there with Mezz Mezzrow's "Really the Blues" as essential an text in the American music pantheon.

An incredible book!
This is one of the rare books for it can be enjoyed by just about anyone who picks it up. Its the amazing account of the life of Jelly Roll Morton, one of the best jazz pianists of all time. Though a braggart and troubled man, he created some of the very best pieces of jazz. The book goes into his life from his childhood and his time working at Storyville to the very troubled end in the early forties. You learn about his family, his troubled relationships with Anita and Mabel and how he went from being wildly successful to dying virtually forgotten. Voodoo, New Orleans, jazz and Creole culture, its all here.

Written with flair and never boring, Mr. Jelly Roll is a book that you will read more than once. Its a look at a legend and a glimpse into a world we can only know of through books and music. Get this if you want a good read and a look at Mr. Morton's life. A true classic.

You can almost smell the smoke in the back rooms
Alan Lomax interviewed Jelly Roll while doing an extensive set of recordings shortly before Morton's death. He followed up with a number of interviews with people who knew Jelly Roll. Lomax did a fabulous job of keeping himself out of the way while letting the often colorful information from the interviews tell the story of Jelly's part in the birth of jazz, a story with triumphs, massive ego and ultimate decline. I read a library copy and am buying a copy for a present.

Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy: An Affectionate Biography

Laurel & Hardy fans will love this book. I certainly did. The warmth and affection that John McCabe had for both Stan and Ollie comes through on every page. While the focus is more on Laurel, Hardy comes off well in the chapters devoted to him.
I wish there had been more pictures, but the text more than made up for it. Don't be surprised if you find yourself whistling the "cukoo song" while reading this book. The "boys" are gone, but the laughter they created is still with us, unlike the current crop of "comedians".

Sublime
I wish they'd put Stan and Ollie back on TV to show another generation how wonderful these two are. There's no doubt that they remain as funny today as they did back in their prime. I'm a big fan and have many of their DVD's. I wanted to know about the duo and this book informed me greatly.

Mr Laurel and Mr Hardy is a riveting biography of the two men. It took me only a few hours to get through. It concentrates mostly on Stanley who was the creative genius behind the pair, but this only heightens interest in the chapter on Ollie, which is written in interview form. I liked the way the book started with Laurel failing miserably on his first attempt at performing, with his Dad in attendance. His perseverence was incredible as he subbed for Chaplin during the early days before hard work and the luck to be partnered with Mr Hardy, finally garnered him some success.

The book, written after many interviews with Stan, has got a very appealing narrative. We get insights into the making of their films, answering questions about how the pair came together and how most of their routines got started. It's very enlightening.

What I found most surprising was the undercurrent of emotion throughout. Its author obviously had a wonderful adoration for the pair and Stan, while speaking to him is very nostalgic about the past. I love the parts where Stan met Chaplin after many years, after they both had made it. And where, years after their filmic success, when they were touring Europe, the church bells in Cobh played out their theme tune.

If you have any interest in Laurel and Hardy, you must get this book.

A Good Primer
This was the first book about everyone's favourite comedy couple. I recently read it for the fourth or fifth time and felt inspired to recommend it at Amazon. McCabe interviewed both comics and knew Laurel for years. As an overview and appreciation of the Laurel and Hardy career this is still the best book to start with. Those more seriously interested will find a number of excellent books on the subject written in more recent years. I recommend 'Mr Laurel and Mr Hardy' enthusiastically to all fans.

Again, Polacco shows how an educator can change a life
Ironically, it was my daughter who told me about this book. A lab student from the University read it to her 2nd grade class and Ingrid was immediately besotted. I am the one who usually recommends books to this first year teacher! When she began her year of teaching back in August, the first gift I gave her was my beloved THANK YOU, MR. FALKER, my favorite Polacco book. I wanted her to know how important a teacher is in the life of her students. I still think of Eleanor Mills, my sixth grade teacher many, many decades ago!
Anyway, MR. LINCOLN'S WAY is one of six Polacco books that I gave to my daughter for her birthday. It is the touching story of an African American Principal and how he cares so much for his students that he goes out of his way to reach 'the problem child.' "Mean Gene" (who is white) is the school bully; he terrorizes the children, especially those who are different because of their race or nationality. Mr. Lincoln discovers that Gene is passionate about birds and gives him a project--filling the school atrium with birds. Gene ends up having a complete personality change which is even noticed by his teachers. The key to this story is Principal Lincoln who takes the time to discover why Gene acts out--a cruel, racist father. As teachers, we sometimes have students who are 'unlovable' and we never take the time to think why: Did this child have breakfast? Is he even loved? Is he beaten at home? I think if we spent more time learning about our student's backgrounds, we could touch more lives.

Mr. Lincoln's Way
I liked the book because it was showing people that it doesn't matter what color you are or what heritage you came from, everyone is the same.

A powerful lesson for kids, teachers and administrators
In Patricia Polacco's "Mr. Lincoln's Way," she shows the power of teachers and administrators to reach even the most unreachable kids. Typically for Polacco, she weaves magic with her illustrations and makes the story intriguing as well.

"Mean Gene" is the bully of the school, the one who has been taught to hate anyone different from himself. But Gene has also been taught, by his grandfather, to identify and love birds. He knows everything about birds, from the types of trees they like to nest in to the kind of food they need to eat. Mr. Lincoln latches onto this talent and nurtures it, asking Gene to be in charge of figuring out what should go into the school's atrium. As Gene eventually blossoms, so do the ducks who live in the atrium--and as he helps herd the ducklings towards the pond, so is he led by Mr. Lincoln towards greater understanding and tolerance.

This is a lovely book for just about any age. Younger kids can just enjoy the pictures, while older kids may want to discuss the idea of prejudice and consequences for actions. It's a treat to see a black principal with a whole culturally diverse student body, too. Highly recommended.

Inspirational
Great book to read for inspiration in a comfortable style. Pat Williams writes as if he is speaking with you in your living room. The stories he recounts make for easy reading with a message and lessons for all.

True Success
Pat Williams is able to untangle a web of questions that many have been asking for centuries. He defines success with 16 rules that were modeled for him by a man who's life truly counted for something. These secrets unlocked many doors for me as a manager and affirmed what I believe to be our purpose in life. His stories, rational, and honesty are challenging and may cause you to reconsider your philosophy of leadership. It's a must read.

Mr. R. E. was a mentor to many .
Thank you Pat, for taking time through the years to preserve the rich heritage of this wonderfully gifted and dedicated Christian businessman. Mr. R.E. never fully knew what he meant to some many people. He gave great counsel on frequent occasions and help considerably hundreds of others.

Very Cute & Practical!
I was not familiar with the Mr. Lunch products before I bought this stationery, but I took a chance after reading the reviews. The graphics are very cute and there is a lot of writing space on each page. The stationery looks more expensive than it costs. Definitely a great buy!

Mr. Lunch is Stylin'!
If you want stationary with personality, you can't go wrong with this delightful package. There are 6 different full-color designs to choose from. What makes this package stand out from the crowd however, is that the stationary is its own envelope as well! All you do is fold on the scored locations, moisten the two edges, seal, address and, Boom!, you're ready to send it off! Children will love it and all the adults I have sent one to have gotten a kick out of it as well. The place for the return address is a bit small, but that is a very minor quibble. Get this very affordable, inventive and fun stationary for your family and/or friends. You won't regret it.

The best of Mr. Lunch merchandise..
I found the clever all-in-one Fold and Mail stationary to be the coolest of all of the Mr. Lunch merchandise. Makes a great gift and is at a very nice price...

No Surprise!
I have all the titles in the series, and of course, I love this one. My children snuggle up and we have read this one over
and over. A must have for Mr. Putter and Tabby fans. Everyone will love the warmth and consideration from Mr. Putters neighbor and her dog, zeke. We should all care so much.

Best of the Series (So Far)
I've read the Mr. Putter & Tabby books with both of my children. It's a wonderful series for the beginning reader. This title is my favorite of the entire series. Mr. Putter has a cold and remembers what made him feel better when he was a boy. Chicken soup, some hot tea and an adventure book loaned by Mrs. Teaberry's dog, Zeke make this cold worth having. It perfectly captures just how much fun a sick day can be.

A great series built on loveable characters
My daughter who is now 8 and I have been reading the Mr Putter and Tabby stories from the very beginning when Mr Putter and Tabby poured the tea. In fact, she has learned to read thanks to this kind hearted old man and his "fine cat." This latest addition as the two of them deal with a common cold is uncommonly good. Cynthia Rylant has managed to convey the lives of two elderly people - Mr Putter and his neighbor, Mrs Teaberry - with dignity, humor and a sense of adventure in everyday living. My daughter loves this story and all the others because of the humorous situations and the likeability of the characters. I love them because as I approach my "Mr Putter years" -- I'm 56 -- I see him as a delightful example of what being an "old man" can be. Likewise I see my daughter learning compassion, acceptance and respect for older people so often missing in children's stories.

I urge any parent -- and especially grandparents -- to add this book and any of the other Mr Putter and Tabby books to their children's (and grandchildren's)reading repetoire.

Mr. Putter and his fine yellow cat, Tabby, both getting on in years, love going to the tropical fish store. Mr. Putter owned goldfish as a boy, and Tabby loves watching the fish because it makes "her whiskers tingle and her tail twitch." When the pair decides to bring home three fish one day, neither one of them is aware that, well, how shall we put it delicately... Tabby has a "fish problem." Each evening Tabby wants to go to bed, she needs to go to bed, but she can't drag herself away from the fishbowl. Day and night she finds herself batting the bowl, twitchy and dazed, in spite of Mr. Putter's gentle admonitions. After failed attempts to cover the bowl with a pillowcase and a bucket, Mr. Putter finally decides to find a new home for his goldfish and finds a willing beneficiary in his neighbor Mrs. Teaberry and her good dog, Zeke. Will Zeke turn out to have a fish problem too, or is this happily ever after for the goldfish?

Cynthia Rylant and Arthur Howard's series about the lovable Mr. Putter and his skittish cat, Tabby, is a terrific boon for early readers. Howard's detail-rich illustrations of these utterly charming characters perfectly complement Rylant's humorous, entertaining, and very readable stories. Kids will love reading these beginning chapter books, which include Mr. Putter & Tabby Pour the Tea and Mr. Putter & Tabby Toot the Horn. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

Average review score:

A must-read for cat lovers!
It's true, my six-year-old loves this book. The truly great thing about it, though, is that it is thoroughly entertaining for the adults reading along with her. Everyone who has ever loved a cat, regardless of their age, should read this book. It's priceless.

5 Stars for Mr. Putter & Tabby Feed the Fish
My daughter is a beginning reader and loves all of the Mr. Putter and Tabby books, but this one is--by far--her favorite. It is endearing, tender, and funny, too. She reads it over and over, often laughing so hard at the events and characters' expressions, that she can't even read for a moment or two. All of these Rylant series books--and this one in particular--have really been a boost to her enjoyment of reading. I'm sure they would be for any 6-8 year old.

My favorite "Mr. Putter & Tabby" !
This is the best one yet! The story is so funny and original and the illustrations are fantastic. Simply adorable! The love Mr. Putter has for his cat was evident in the tender way he reacted to and coped with her "problem."

Fabulous read
This is one book that is needed on everyones shelf. Truly an entertaining and creative read. Great gift for that hard to buy for person. I was unable to put it down this summer until I realized I was getting a sunburn! Looking forward to a sequel.

Excellent book for classroom use!
This book is an excellent source for classrooms, from English to History to Science. The stories of words is fascinating and a part of our culture. Students find the information interesting and they end up learning along the way. Ms. Lee's presentation style keeps the reader engaged, so they want to keep reading. My students end up talking about what they learned from her book, and look forward to my posting the next story each day. I also enjoy the book on my own as a source of entertainment as well as knowledge. Her writing style is fun and she has obviously done her research. I look forward to her next book.

Great summer reading, couldn't put it down.
I met Laura Lee in Michigan when she was doing radio. I knew then that she was going to do great things. She has a great mind for trivia and facts and of course, music. Love her...loved her book. In fact, later I'm ordering 2 more copies.

Nice early effort from Seibold and Walsh
Having recently discovered the wonderful works of J.otto Seibold and Vivian Walsh I went ahead and bought this title, one of their earlier works. Neither the art nor the writing are as fully developed as their later works, such as the exquisite Gluey, but all of the trademark elements are in place. J.otto's art is still irrestibly charming and full of humorous details to find and enjoy. Walsh's writing is simple enough for youngsters to understand, but subtly includes whimsy and benevolence in her typically unforced manner. All ages will enjoy the dog Mr. Lunch's downstream journey to Venice.

mr. lunch and fantasy
i find the mr. lunch books very inventive and humorous. my 4 year old son loves them. i first bought "mr. lunch takes a plane ride," prior to our family flying to california (from new york). it was a perfect primer to the ride. the canoe story is even funnier than the plane story. of course it is absurd and tongue and cheek, but kids don't know that, so it feeds into the invention of fantasy that kids at this age should foster. the drawings are hip as well...very modern...highly recommended!

Mr. Lunch Borrows a Canoe
Yet another masterpiece by J. Otto! The story (as well as the pictures-which you can see from the cover) is very cute and your child will definitely love it. do NOT hesitate to buy!
