Mr. Halley and His Comet
Published in Hardcover by Polestar*Nexus Pub (January, 1986)
Authors: Teresa Dahlquist and Raf Dahlquist
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $2.99
Collectible price: $2.70
Average review score:

Filled with Prose and Science
The book is written in a rhyming prose format. It depicts the life work of Mr. Halley, not merely the work on the comet named after him. It is filled with all kinds of science references. It is most appropriate for upper-elementary school children. While the pictures and prose would work well for the younger grades, the science contained in the book is most appropriate for the older kids.

Possibilities!
This book has possibilities! This is a new author, and his mind seems to have alot of ideas. He just needs to expand a little on the details. His ideas are fresh. I read ALOT and I haven't read anything similar to it. The fact that average-Joe-meets-poor-little-rich-LONELY-girl is possibly an old idea, but he approaches it with a little different outlook. I hope to see something more from him in the near future!

Mr. Traven, I Presume?

Mr. Baumann's Frustration, I Presume?
I read Mr. Baumann's slim volume not once, but twice. I don't agree with him at all, and neither does Karl S. Guthke, that someone else wrote all those B. Traven books. Yes, Traven must have had some help (so did Hemingway and Thomas Wolf--as did so many others) --that still does not prove that he was not the original author. The man was clearly highly intelligent as well as obviously quite articulate. All one has to do is go over some of his correspondence with various entities throughout his career. To simply say that a writer can't write in more than one style is ridiculous. Mr. Baumann's theory remains nothing but that--a theory. I get the feeling that "B. Traven" did write his books himself and that Mr. Baumann does not even come close to proving otherwise.
Now, as to who B. Traven actually was--well, that's something else
again, entirely different issue. Yes, we know he was Hal Croves and that he was also Ret Marut (among other aliases that he had in his little I.D. kit)

but no one, nobody has yet been able to figure out who Ret Marut was or where he came from, not Judy Stone, not Karl Guthke or anyone else. Yes, they have tried...and failed. Maybe one day someone will come along and offer up solid proof as to the real and true identity of this talented writer...maybe...or it could be that anyone who may have had the answer has probably by now passed on, etc. Meanwhile, we have the B. Traven books. I have already read THE COTTONPICKERS and liked it (reminded me, to some extent, of DOWN AND OUT IN PARIS AND LONDON by Goerge Orwell, as well FACTOTUM by the
great Charles Bukowski).; read TREASURE (also well done) and am in the process of reading THE DEATH SHIP...
And so, my final verdict RE: MR. TRAVEN, I PRESUME? Close, but no cigar, Mr. Baumann. Keep trying...or rather, accept the fact this is just another one of life's mysteries we'll have to live with.

MURDER, MR. MOSLEY
Published in Paperback by Bantam (01 February, 1986)
Author: John Greenwood
Amazon base price: $3.50
Used price: $0.01
Collectible price: $1.00
Average review score:

3.5 Stars-- A Sweet Little Mystery
Minor vandalism is much more the specialty of Mosley than murder but when the prodigal heiress Brenda Cryer returns home and is murdered, Mosley is assigned to the case.

Mosley is a wonderful example of the seemingly bumbling detective played against the foil of whiz-kid Sergant Beamish. His random clues and wild goose chases lead them to find a killer.

Nothing spectacular, but a nice little book.

The Old Man and Mr. Smith
Published in Audio Cassette by Chivers Audio Books (January, 1994)

If only Ustinov had read this...
Ah, if only, indeed. Sessions approaches this reading as if it were the first time he had seen the material. Any grasp of Ustinov's fabulously wry novel would have led him to understand that god should be, like Ustinov himself, quietly powerful. His rendering of Mr. Smith is, however, appropriately sniveling.

Our Mr. Wrenn
Published in Hardcover by Indypublish.Com (January, 2004)
Author: Sinclair Lewis
Amazon base price: $97.99

OK, if you're a Sinclair Lewis fan....
Clearly no match to his later, more recognized works, but interesting as a study in a writer's development. Key themes of his later work are present, though not as polished. Of particular interest is the writer's fearful depiction of the "ordinary life," considering he was a striving, unrecognized writer at the time it was written. If you're just branching out into Lewis, I wouldn't begin here (try Main Street, first). But if you've read the big ones, you'll probably enjoy this peek at the early writer.

biography/religious also informative re demograpy
3/24/04 This "biography/religious "on the life of "the Drexel family's Katharine(whose maternal side of the family were of German origin/" the Langstroth" of Germantown,PA and were not Catholic(they were "Dunkards/now called the Church of the Brethern" who later started her own order for "Indians and coloureds"(and was canonized 10/01/2000 as "saint") also gives great details regarding "Catholic life" which was encircled by the Catholic Churches and its parishes. The Catholic Church's embracement of the "ethnic" communities was the thorn/rose that spurred Katharine Drexel into founding her "Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament" .

Searching for Sex in the City : How to find your Mr Big

Missing a Big point.
Surprising, funny, and sometimes even useful, this book is. Well researched, it is not. I really only read it to see if the author knew what they were talking about, because anyone who has watched Sex and the City for more than one episode knows that the last person you want to find yourself in any kind of relationship with is Mr. Big.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Other Stories (Everyman's Library)
Published in Paperback by Everymans Library (October, 1992)
Authors: Robert Louis Stevenson, Claire Harman, and Claire Harmon
Amazon base price: $6.95
Used price: $6.00

Mystery, "Who Done It" = Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Dr. Jekyll and My. Hyde - A tale of a scientist (Dr. Jekyll) and the mysterious drug that transforms him into the cryptic Mr. Hyde. Through the book Mr. Hyde gains contol of Dr. Jekyll, ultimately ending the life of Jekyll and sealing the new life of Mr. Hyde. Through the mystery and the " who done it " concept of writing, Stevenson keeps the reader on their toes. Even though written before Frued's naming of the id and ego, Stevenson demonstrates a remarkable "perceptive understanding of the personality's inner war." I would recommed this book to all mystery readers.

This book was an alright story for intelligent reading
I only gave this book an average score because in my eyes it was somewhat hard to understand. I know that a lot of people know about this story even if they haven't read the book, but I would never had known as much as do about this book if I didn't read the whole thing. The parts that I enjoyed were the parts that had the murders and when they were talking about Mr. Hyde. I have read many books in my life time and I can't say that this is one of my favorites because it was pretty slow in most of the parts. It didn't have much action at all and thats mainly what I like, but if your the type of person who likes cluefull storys to where you have to understand everything and try to guess the story then this book is for you. This story is very popular so obviously there are many people out there that like this story, but I guess you will have to read it for yourself.
