A Must Have for Meat Eaters
No matter if you agree or disagree with Mr. Cutlets' reviews, this book is a fabulous read. Enjoy it with a steak and a bottle of red wine!

Praise from a vegetarian
Even as a vegetarian, I savored this book; Mr Cutlets' wit-marinated prose is totally entertaining even if you're not into meat. Who else can compare White Castle hamburgers to whippets...

Mr. Cutlets, Super-Genius
This weighty tome is the definitive guide to all things edible and dead in Manhattan, but it is also a great read owing to Mr. Cutlets' inimitable prose style. It should be mandatory reading for all schoolchildren the world over, and is spoken of in hushed tones in the corridors of power from Washington, DC to Burkina Fasso.

Remarkable !!!
Mr. Ape is an eccentric man.His wife has left him and dismissed all his servants.Although most people would be sad that their wife would leave them after 30 years of marriage,Mr. Ape was delighted at the idea that his wife was leaving him as she was very bossy.Apparently,Mr. Ape is very fond of animals and bought 12 hens.Gypsies named Jake and his father Joe are living quite near his place.Jake's donkey was roaming near Mr. Ape's compound so Jake arrived at Mr. Ape's house. That's how they got acquainted.Later,Mr. Ape bought some rabbits and guinea pigs.Wow! That's a lot.I bet he's crazy. Then he gets even more crazy-rearing canaries,a puppy,a foal and lastly a talking parrot who is good at immitating voices.I like the parts that the parrot immitated Mr. Ape's voice as it will trick Jake and Joe.So humourus!! Mr. Ape's pets soon increases as they will breed. So,he decides to have a pet sale.A lot of letters keep pouring into his house.Soon,he has a few pets. But when Mr. Ape's house is accidentally burned, everyone accuses Jake and Joe.Luckily, the animals were saved. Now it's up to Mr. Ape-is he going to follow the gypsies,Jake and Joe or will he stay? Read this book and you'll find out. This is a truly amazing book.It really touched my heart.

A really good book
Mr Ape is a fab book. If you can get your hands on it, I'd read it. I haven't read many of Dick King-Smith's stories, but this is probably one of the best books I've ever read. I love animals. I have a rat of my own, and my sister has a cat. Anyone who loves animals, like me, READ IT!

This book is a really exciting.
This book is realistic fiction. It is about two people who help each other. On a scale from 1 to 10 I would give 10. If you like humoous stories you will like this book.

Mr Bridge

Author: Evan S. Connell

a masterpiece
simply one of the best books I've ever read. India will exasperate you and enlighten you. Through her and the other characters in Connell's masterpiece, you will have a feeling that your own life is unfolding before your eyes, complete with a beginning, a middle, and an end. It is simultaneously a disturbing and reassuring experience. Don't miss it.

A Stunning Work of Realism
Evan S. Connell's "Mr. Bridge" stands, together with its companion novel, "Mrs. Bridge", as one of the outstanding works of Twentieth century American fiction. The two works, taken together, form the brilliantly wrought portrait of an upper middle class marriage in the years preceding and encompassing World War II. Linear in its narrative and meticulously realistic in its style, "Mr. Bridge" tells the story of Walter Bridge, a financially successful, but emotionally stunted, lawyer who lives out his proper married life in the wealthy Mission Hills suburb of Kansas City.

Mr. Bridge recognizes that his life did not begin until he knew his wife, India Bridge. His marriage is, in this sense, important to him. But he cannot articulate his deep feelings for his wife and, ultimately, gives up trying to express any emotion at all. "So the years passed, they had three children and accustomed themselves to a life together, and eventually Mr. Bridge decided that his wife should expect nothing more of him. After all, he was an attorney rather than a poet; he could never pretend to be what he was not."

Cold and emotionally repressed, Mr. Bridge spends all of his time at the office, becoming involved with his family only when necessary to ensure that proper middle class respectability is maintained. He spends his time visiting the bank, scrutinizing his stock certificates and counting his profits. Indeed, he is so focussed on wealth that he surprises his wife and children with stock certificates of Kansas City Power & Light on Christmas morning, only to take the gifts back into his possession so that he can properly manage them.

Manipulative and controlling, Mr. Bridge persuades his reluctant daughter, after she has won a contest, to accept a pony as a prize, even though she would much rather have a bicycle. When the day comes to accept the prize, "Mr. Bridge could not attend the presentation ceremony because he was again spending Saturday at the office." Like his self-centered Christmas present of utility company stock, this prize, too, becomes cheerless for his daughter because of his need to impose his will.

Deeply bigoted, Mr. Bridge cannot tolerate Jews or Blacks very well. When he has an opportunity to take investment advice from an obviously successful Jewish stockbroker, Mr. Bridge, instead, becomes offended by the man's ethnicity and ostensible pretension to be a successful upper middle class man like himself. Reluctantly shaking the man's hand, Mr. Bridge "could hardly restrain a shudder." Resonating with antisemitic feeling, "he withdrew his hand, which came away stickily. He wanted to wash it. His hand felt moist and unhealthy, as if during those few seconds it had become infected." Similarly, when his wife shows him horrifying pictures of a brutal lynching in the South, his only reaction is to ask, "what was this fellow doing that he shouldn't have been doing?"

A fiercely conservative man, with political views as deeply repressive as his stunted emotions, he cannot tolerate President Roosevelt. He even suggests that while Hitler was insane, "some of his ideas were sensible."

Indeed, the repressed feelings of Mr. Bridge find their darkest allusions in his feelings about his daughters, feelings that suggest powerful undercurrents of the sexuality that is absent from his marriage. Seeing his grown daughter, Carolyn, one night posing naked in front of a mirror, he cannot get her out of his mind. "He reminded himself that she was his daughter, but the luminous image returned like the memory of a dream."

"Mr. Bridge", like its companion novel, "Mrs. Bridge", is a stunning work of realism, a crystalline pure narrative of a marriage without feeling, a life without love, a man without the ability to move outside the bounds of middle class probity and respectability.

A great book
I read this right on the heals of Mrs. Bridge. What a pair. I couldn't put this book down, either.

A Steadfast Tale
Mr Bump, quite frankly, is a clod. He can't seem to do anything without injuring himself or others. How can he get by in life with such a predilection for mayhem? Read it and see. Great for both children and adults.

Mr. Bump does it again!
Mr. Bump has a problem. He is always getting into accidents, bumping into anything and everything in his way! Although his bumpingdilemma causes him lots of problems in holding a job, after a not-so-bump-free vacation Mr. Bump realizes the perfect job for him. You'll have to read the book to find out Mr. Bump's job niche. This a clever little book great for all ages to teach the lesson that there's a bright side to every situation.

Mr. Bump
One of the delightful books in the Mr. Men series by Roger Hargreaves. Mr. Bump is one of the best. His trials and tribulations come about from his seemingly innate tendency to get into accidents. Bumping into anything and everything in his way! Although this problem causes him some problems in finding a job, after a not-so-quiet vacation to the beach, Mr. Bump realizes the solution to his job problem. To find out his ideal job you'll just have to read the book yourself. Great for kids and for kids at heart as are all the Mr. Men books!

Best of a Great Series
I enjoyed the Mr. Men books as a child and was pleased to see they had been republished now that I have a 4 year old son of my own. Mr. Noisy is the best of the bunch, in my mind. It's great fun to get loud with Mr. Noisy and SCREAM REAL LOUD THAT I'D LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT. And it is just as much fun to whisper - something Mr. Noisy tries for once in his life to good result. Get in character and have some great fun reading this book with your kids!

GREAT FUN!!!
MY son absolutley loves when we read this book!! He loves to pretend he is Mr. Noisy himself and clomp around the room as I read to him!!

Translation
The person who wrote a review before used lots of fancy words, and I'm sort of worried that people might not understand what he was trying to say, so I'm going to translate: Mr. Noisy is a person who loves to be really loud, and I mean REALLY loud. However, most people don't like being shouted at, so when Mr. Noisy talks to someone, they usually take it the wrong way. Mr. Noisy's loud voice can cause problems, such as this: The butcher and the grocer don't like Mr. Noisy shouting all the time, so they refuse to give him his food until he quiets down. In the end, Mr. Noisy has to learn to be quieter if he's going to get what he wants. However, this is incredibly hard for Mr. Noisy, because it's in his nature to be noisy.

Mr. Bernds Goes to Hollywood
Published in Hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield (Non NBN) (29 April, 1999)
Author: Edward Bernds
Amazon base price: $29.95

Interesting portrait of Hollywood in the early-talkie years
The late writer-director Edward Bernds has become a familiar name to movie comedy fans, through his association with The Three Stooges, The Bowery Boys, the Blondie series, and a host of other comedy stars. But Mr. Bernds made his reputation as a recording engineer during the early-talkie years, and was the number-one sound man at Columbia Pictures until he took on more creative duties.

This book chronicles Bernds's early years, from his first radio jobs through his successful association with director Frank Capra. Bernds was a stickler for accuracy, and drew upon his old diaries to confirm his excellent memory for facts and faces. He was just as careful to spell things out for the reader, explaining a technical process or a business practice to amplify the point he was making. Bernds's attention to detail makes for good, solid reading.

This writer was disappointed that the book stops when the author stopped working as a soundman. But it's understandable because Bernds, in his thoroughness, would have written a mammoth volume if his entire career were to be discussed. Joseph McBride recognizes the "missing" material by appending a more general interview with Bernds, conducted by McBride and Leonard Maltin.

Film buffs and historians will enjoy "Mr. Bernds." For those who want Bernds's observations and recollections of his Three Stooges years, read "The Columbia Comedy Shorts" by Ted Okuda and Edward Watz.

The Golden Age of Hollywood from an Insider
When Hollywood first started to shine golden, Ed Bernds was there. He knew and worked with the stars, the directors and the writers, and contributed no little himself to Hollywood's Golden Age. In "Mr. Bernds Goes To Hollywood," Ed tells -- with near total recall -- of his journey to the movie capital in the earliest days of sound (which was his speciality) and of his career at Columbia Studios, the King of "Poverty Row," with the likes of Frank Capra, Clark Gable and the feared studio head Harry Cohn. In telling his story, Bernds invokes a bygone era of Hollywood glamor with an inside knowledge that few today possess. Necessary books on Hollywood are few and far between, but "Mr. Bernds Goes To Hollywood" fills the bill.

Behind-the-scenes Hollywood talent SHINES!
Edward Bernd's autobiography is a wonderful insight into the life and career of a Hollywood talent whose career lay behind the camera.

The book only covers the first half of his life, from his childhood in Chicago to his career as a top sound engineer at Columbia Studios. Bernds' engineering career encompassed the films of Frank Capra (Capra always requested Ed for his team), the many classics of Moe, Larry and Curly, and many major Columbia feature productions through 1945.

The reader is left wanting more, particularly the details of Bernds' new post-1945 career of writer and director for the Three Stooges, the Blondie series, the Bowery Boys and Elvis Presley. But, that's another book. Right, Ed?

Hilarious!
One of the great comic reads of all time. If you liked Cary Grant and Myrna Loy in the movie, you will love the book even more. Also look for the equally funny sequel, Blanding's Way--sadly out of print, but easily located on rare book websites.

Why I am buying another copy of this book
I am an architect who designs custom home remodeling projects. I lend this book to some of my clients, for fun, and to help them develop the sense of perspecive that is sooo helpful for living with the million decisions and surprises of remodeling your house. Fifty years old or not, it's a hoot. The movie of the same name, also from the '40s, with Myrna Loy and some famous man, Clark Cable? misses most of the fun of the book.

remarkably wry
more than half a century has passed since this little gem appeared, yet it stands the test of time. why? like all great humor--oral or written--this comedy of errors is firmly rooted in reality. its protagonists stand halfway between hope and fear. we understand their desires, their motivations, their anxieties because they are ours. this is the only book not written by jane austen that has prompted me, repeatedly, to laugh aloud. besides its surpassing treatment of the ever-present human need and struggle for security and comfort, this slender volume also serves as a period piece: in the personage of mrs. blandings, the author quite unintentionally paints a picture of the dominant view of women, in the age before liberation, as fanciful, frivolous, and helplessly dependent. if you check your gender at the door, you'll find this delectation well worth the reading.

Mr. Benson

a classic
Another "BDSM" erotica classic! A must read for those who love submissive men or dream of dominant men -- like both then you'll be doubly pleased. The only problem is that the plot tends to drift off from the training to a police drama at the mid-point.

This is one excellent read!
Mr. Benson kept me on my toes the entire time I was reading it. From start to finish, it kept my attention. It was full of mystery as well as physical action, which is a great combination. I've never read a more thrilling book!

Fine Leatherswx & more
There will be no "follow-ups" to Mr. Benson, because John Preston passed away. However, his works include several more excellent volumes of erotic work involving men and their passions for SM and each other. See also "Looking for Mr. Preston", a tribute anthology to the man and his writing

Again, again!
My daughter (almost 3) is obsessed with this book. We got it out of the library and it's now been returned and she keeps asking for it. I'm going to have to purchase it. It spurred us to make cookies ourselves (something we'd never done--although we did not make the dough from scratch), and it is a jumping point for all kinds of conversation about cooking, working, buying and, most importantly, SLEEPING (as Mr. Cookie Baker has to go to bed at the end of the day himself). I would highly recommend it!

Mr. Cookie Baker- our all time favorite!
... "Mr cookie Baker" is a MUST read! the boys love to pretend play as we "roll out the cookie dough" and "add colored sprinkles". They identify the children in mr Cookie Baker's shop with names of their school friends. "Mmmm...what a delicious smell!" is one of their favorite lines. ...
An easy read - but, oh, so much to it!

Mr. Cookie Baker
My nephews loved this book! We read it multiple times each time they came to visit. I often used it in my kindergarten classroom as well. It provides many learning opportunities. The pictures offer a lot of discussion for language development and the book is a great lead in to a cooking activity. Now it is one of my two year old son's favorite books.
