Revealing and Amazing
Four Stars!!!!
A must read, this is quite a chronicle of Dr Katz.
The effect of, and on, the family as well as the revelation of the manifestation of the condition is a labor of Love. Ira Katz himself is also most interesting, (to say the least!).
Highly Reccomened !

unreservedly recommended
So I was getting ready to reread Don Quijote (1605)(Miguel de Cervantes 1547-1616) in the excellent Burton Raffel translation and as I was looking for information about the book and author, saw repeated references to Fielding's Joseph Andrews. I'd read his Tom Jones a couple of years ago and found it kind of tough sledding, but when I stumbled upon this one at a library book sale for a quarter, it seemed a stroke of destiny.

The parallels with Don Quijote are readily apparent. First of all, the book consists of a series of humorous travel adventures; second, the travellers involved seem too innocent to survive in the harsh world that confronts them. When Joseph Andrews, the naive footman of Lady Booby, deflects the amorous advances of both her Ladyship and Slipslop, the Lady's servant, he is sent packing. Upon his dismissal, Joseph, along with his friend and mentor Parson Adams, an idealistic and good-hearted rural clergyman, who essentially takes the physical role of Sancho Panza but the moral role of Quijote, sets out to find his beloved but chaste enamorata, Fanny Goodwill, who had earlier been dismissed from Lady Booby's service as a result of Slipslop's jealousy. In their travels they are set upon repeatedly by robbers, continually run out of funds and Adams gets in numerous arguments, theological and otherwise. Meanwhile, Fanny, whom they meet up with along the way, is nearly raped any number of times and is eventually discovered to be Joseph's sister, or maybe not.. The whole thing concludes with a farcical night of musical beds, mistaken identities and astonishing revelations.

I've seen this referred to as the first modern novel; I'm not sure why, in light of it's obvious debt to Cervantes. But it does combine those quixotic elements with a seemingly accurate portrayal of 18th Century English manners and the central concern with identity and status do place it squarely in the modern tradition.

At any rate, it is very funny and, for whatever reason, seemed a much easier read than Tom Jones. I recommend it unreservedly.

Discussing Death and Dying with Children
I highly recommend this book to all parents and teachers who wish to talk with their young children about death and dying, especially if someone close to the child has a terminal illness. Big Bird goes through the same emotions and questions that we, especially children, may have after someone close to us dies, so it opens up wonderful dialogue for the children to express their feelings. The book's front and back cover also explains how this book can be used to discuss these issues with children of all ages. I read this book to a three-year-old in my preschool and found that it was able to bring memories of my late father to me.

A descriptive masterpiece on a very ingenious Mr.Peale.
At first glance the book appears as no more than another biography of an old man. This coming from a teenager who has read more biographies than she would have cared to, The Ingenious Mr.Peale is more than it seems. It is the story of the life of an aspiring artist and his journey through a time long ago when art, particularly painting, was just getting popular. But Mr.Peale is more than just an artist. You must read on to find all the compelling and dangerous journeys he undertakes. Ms. Wilson draws you in and holds your attention for most of the book. There are dry spots but that is to be expected in any biography. This adventure into the life of Mr.Peale becomes more intriguing with each chapter building upon the last. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Colonial America or needs a good person to do a report on. This guy's life is about as involved as any soap opera.

A great book for the advanced grade-school reader.
I haven't read this book since I was a kid. I remember that it was more advanced than your average grade school book. It has far more substance to it than the Babysitter series. The book is about a young girl learning to cope with her first moral dilemma. She is assigned to work with an older man in a rest home and ends up taking him for a drive across the country (with the aid of one of her friends) A great story and a well written book.

No real moral but a gorgeous little book...
Unlike some of Potter's other books concerning young animals' rash behavior (Peter Rabbit, Tom Kitten) or adult animals' ignorance/trickery (Jemima Puddle Duck, Mr. Tod), this book simply tells the story of Jeremy who is almost eaten by a fish while fishing on a lily pad. No life lesson, but a sweet story and some of her most beautiful illustrations ever. Especially great for budding fishermen/women!
