A Bad, Bad Day
The book A Bad, Bad Day is about a young boy who has a really bad day. First of all he
wakes up late he bumps his head on his shelf then he does bot have time to eat breakfast.
Then he has to chase the bus down and he misses it so he has to get a ride to school. So he
gets to school hungry and with a head ake.
This book teaches that you should slow down a little bit so that you do not hit your head
on any thing and then make sure that you eat breakfast even if you are late breakfast is the
most important meal of the day.
The age level for this book is from four to about eight because after that it will be to easy
for you to read and it will be a very short book.

A Good, Good Book
My 4 year old daughter loves this book about a boy who has a tough time getting ready on time in the morning, just like her! With only 4-5 words/page, she can proudly read it by herself. It has a great message, too, that an awful day can turn around and be great.
The text is followed by a series of activity pages, such as finding rhyming words, that Genevieve also thoroughly enjoys doing with me.
I have two other fine books in the "My First Hello Reader" series, "My Messy Room" and "No Way!". In fact, I'm so pleased with them all that I'm buying any other ones in the series that I can locate. They're the best books I've found for helping Genny learn to read.

Not the real richard scarry
Poor undetailed art based on the poor cartoon, but my 4 year old son loves it!

A bedtime favorite!
My best friend and I loved the Richard Scarry books when we were little. My friend gave this book to my daughter(then 2) for her birthday and it has become a fast favorite over the year. She never tires of Mr Frumble's silly antics, and continues to plead for "just one more!" until we often finish all of the stories in the book. We love to look at all the wonderful details included in the pictures and point out funny things. She is now a big Frumble fan and I'm looking for more of his books for her now.

Enjoyable if you know what to expect
Provided that you don't come in with unbelievably high expectations, this book can be pretty enjoyable. Actually, it is a collection of four different books. The second book in the collection, "Think Fast, Mr. Moto," is the best of the four.
Just a little background: Mr. Moto is a Japanese secret agent (these books were written before Pearl Harbor). Although he is the title character in all of the books, the main character is usually an American travelling abroad who crosses paths with Mr. Moto. The American invariably finds himself tangled in a web of crime and/or espionage, and he always has questions as to the trustworthiness of Mr. Moto. These questions usually cause the American to end up working against Moto for a time. In the end, however, it is always revealed that the mysterious Mr. Moto really is the "good guy" and the American comes around in the end. The stories all follow a definite formula; by the last two books in the collection, you know pretty much what is going to happen several pages in advance. However, if you take it for what it is--light reading from a different era--it is perfectly enjoyable.

Outstanding suspense with an oriental twist.
This is a "must have" book for your library if you like mystery and/or detective stories. Better than Sherlock Holmes!

I only wish that there was a "Complete Mr. Moto" on the market. That way I could be sure that I have every single Mr. Moto story in my library.

Comedy and Mystery with a twist of Lileks
James Lileks has done it again with another excellent novel. Much like its predecessor, "Falling Up the Stairs," this novel is full of suspense and nonsense in order to keep the reader both interested and smiling. The only drawback to this particular book is the anti-climax. The unfortunately abrupt and off-plot ending made this book a 4 star rather than a 5. Still, it is worth a good read and can easily be enjoyed.

Second funniest book I've read in 10 years!
Second installment of on-target witticism by the author of Falling Up The Stairs. Picks up with our unwilling hero, again caught in a web of unlikely (but plausible) circumstance. This time, ingredients include a beautiful bald woman, one irate failing radio persona, and a loaded pistol caught in the elastic cuff of hospital pants (how DO you aim your leg away from yourself..?) Both books are highly prizes personal posessions. Mail me if you like them!

I AM MUSCLE BOUND!
Since owning this book I have found more use for my desk other than just holding my computer. Now I can build my shoulder muscles up to my ears by grabbing the edges of my desk and lifting up. Word to the wise on a few of the exercises though. Be careful who you choose to sit on your back for the donkey riding excercise!
It's doubtful that Mr. Greenbank banked on any green with this book but more Americans could sure use the punch that this book packs. Even though I am now partially blind from the eye exercises at least I can feel my enormously defined muscle ridden body. My only concern is that the book covers excerises for every part of the body imaginable except for one. Darn! I will have to pursue other alternatives for enlarging that.

I laugh at my upcoming prison term.
Before, I was terrified. I was not Mr. tough. Oh no, my friends. I was Mr. weak. And going to prison seemed like doom. but Mr. greenbank has given me not only thousands of skin and fiber toughening excercises, but an outlook of pure toughness. I might be six foot four and 145 pounds, but thanks to Mr. Tough, i will run D block in no time.

surprisingly macabre
Mr. Wolf throws a birthday bash for Baby Bear and Goldilocks crashes the party as the world's rudest guest. Poor ignorant Goldilocks is dealt a surprisingly macabre punishment for a children's story.
This is a fractured fairy tale in the tradition of Grimm's originals: a moral lesson is taught through violence. While older students will appreciate the sly humor, this is story that could scare the daylights out of some preschoolers. Primary colors and cuddly creatures suggest a toddler audience, while the plot and theme are more appropriate for early elementary school students. The tea party recipes are a charming addition, but too cutesy for the startling ending. Teachers may find the story useful for a unit on fractured fairy tales, but this one is so broken, best to proceed with caution.

Mr. Wolf is back!
As a fan of Fearnley's Mr. WOLF'S PANCAKES, I was curious to see what would be cooked up in this sequal. This time it's birthday cake! When Mr. Wolf and his Granny host a birthday party for Baby Bear, they plan for a perfect day. Then that rude and naughty Goldilocks shows up. Granny has obviously handled such beastly children before, so this visit is a piece of cake.

Fearnley fans won't be disappointed at the outcome!

What's a birthday?
If you were like Timmy Rabbit, Sara Squirrel or Wille Muskrat you would think that a birthday is someone to play with, and not to celebrate the day you were born. And that's because when Timmy Rabitt asks his mom what a birthday is, she tells him that she is to busy at the moment to tell him what a birthday is. When the book begins, Timmy Rabbitt comes hin his house and finds something smells good, and his mom tells it is Mr. Bear's birthday and she is baking him a cake, Timmy asks his mom what a birthday is, and she tells that she is too busy at the moment. So Timmy decides to find a birthday. Now he will have a hard time trying to find a birthday, since he doesn't know much about a birthday. This book is written in 1981 by Veva Wilcox and the pitcures was done by Lyn McClure Butrick.

You will save the book's cost over and over and over and ...
Mr. Waldstein is a bargain-hunting angel. This book is well-organized and a fun read, though sometimes directions are sketchy and hours of operation or phone numbers are wrong. It is less like having access to a city's reference librarian than meeting a friendly person who's lived in the city for years and knows all the best places though not always the details.

This was the first book of the Mr. Cheap series and is now in a second edition. Organized into four main sections (shopping, entertainment, restaurants and lodging), reviews are informal and newsy, usually around 100 words. The index is adequate and an appendix lists restaurants (the most comprehensive section of the book) by food type/ethnicity.

Well worth its cost though not the only reference you'll need.

Crammed with interesting stuff....
Cheap internet cafes, public library lectures, poetry readings, kayak trips, jazz music...... Retail sections also form a large part of the book: infomation on second hand musical information is available; if you want to bring in your instruments to trade in. Similary, second hand bookstores offer the same service. A wide range of CDs, books and furnishings and electronic equipment for the bargain hunter with also locations of fabric stores for designing clothes as well as dress patterns. Besides listing the locations of more unusual supplies like where to get portfolios, there are address guides of the chains of larger stores. A good supplement to Mr Cheap's Guide is Romantic Days and Nighs in Boston by Patricia Harris & David Lyon. It gives great ideas for strolls in the parks, cycling, afternoon teas, picnics and brunches for two. Mr Cheap's guide does not provide maps or comprehensive transportation information and is ideally used as a supplement to a travel guide with location guides. Instead of a travel guide, a travel map is also ideal: hightlight the spots of the map of interest and then plan where to go and stay. Most of the information should ideally be used as early as possible; for bookings of hotels as well as current information on talks and free concerts. It is recommended that internet research is done with the book at hand: for the university lectures, performances, concerts and symphony sessions, current information is needed so read the book over and highlight places of interest and check up for more information. Some organizations also require that you write to them so do armchair travelling in advance.

Good story - relevant
A well written story that I've passed on to another person. She read it and has since passed it on. Interesting and relevant. A fun story with a strong underlying theme.

why I like it.
An interesting book that effectively weaves description of people and places with understandable dialogue.Being a fan of Hemingway I personally like the short fiction that uses dialogue to tell a story. This book did a good job of doing that. The subject matter is very relevant and takes a diffferent but believable twist for fighting terroism. D.W.

Charming Mr. Jeffries!
When Raymond Jeffries visits Shelton-on-Sea, he expects to be utterly bored. But his boredom is quickly alleviated when he hears of Caroline Sedgewick, a girl who has jilted three men. Raymond remembers meeting Caroline, but... he distinctly remembers that she was a plain sort of female. Upon meeting her, his interest is piqued by the charming Miss Sedgewick.

Because of her propensity to jilt, Miss Sedgewick's name is surrounded by scandal. Even though she was justified every time, the gossips don't relent. Caroline is definitely attracted to reserved, gentle Mr. Jeffries. He sympathizes with her, and seems to understand her better than anyone else. And the more time Caroline & Raymond spend together, the more they enjoy each other's company.

In fact, Mr. Jeffries falls for Miss Sedgewick rather quickly...

There was enough going on in the book to keep my interest. Caroline's determined ex-fiance was interesting. The dialogue is witty and delightful. Mr. Jeffries' character is so, SO charming. He was a wonderful hero. At times, I thought Caroline Sedgewick was a little too weepy and self-deprecating. Still, it was good to read about a heroine who wasn't necessarily a diamond of the first water.

I enjoyed this novel, and thought it was much better than Joy Reed's last one. I do recommend it.

prose style makes this a truly worthwhile read
All of Shelton-on-Sea is agog when it becomes known that the scandalous Miss Caroline Sedgewick, noted for having heartlessly jilted three gentlemen, has come to the fashionable seaside town for the summer. Even Mr. Raymond Jeffries, a much sought after bachelor, known for his impeccable manners, elegance and wit is curious to meet the notorious young lady. But when he does finally meet Caroline, he is surprised to find that Caroline is charming, intelligent and rather modest. And he begins to suspect that the rumours about Caroline are not true and that she is much maligned young woman.

As the the two young people begin to spend more time together, it doesn't take Raymond very long to realize that he has fallen rather hard for Caroline; but she insists on treating him as a good friend and at keeping him at a distance. What should Raymond do in order to get Caroline to let down her guard and see him as a desirable suitor? And then the gentleman whom Caroline was last engaged to comes to Salton-on-Sea, determined to win back her regard. Will Caroline succumb to that gentleman's pleas? Or will she realize that in Raymond she may have found her perfect match?

Storywise, "Mr. Jeffries and the Jilt" is a rather ordinary one; and in Raymond and Caroline, Joy Reed has provided us with a rather run-of-the-mill (though likable) hero and heroine pairing. What makes "Mr. Jeffries and the Jilt" so very readable and enjoyable though is the authour's prose style. Much of the novel was written in a rather elegant manner (though there were a few typographical/printing mistakes), and I found myself savouring the manner in which Ms Reed told her tale and the nice and sedate pace at which she allowed for the story and romance to unfold. "Mr. Jeffries and the Jilt" may not be to everyone taste in that the pacing is a little slow and that there is a lot of (private) rumination and not a lot of 'action' but I rather enjoyed this elegant little novel, and have no problem recommending it as a worthwhile read.
