Romantic Times Review
In MR. VALENTINE (4.5), a tough dockworker secretly writing romances under a feminine nom de plume, discovers to both his horror and delight, that he has sold his first submission and must now find a willing female to promote his book. Once again master storyteller Vicki Lewis Thompson dishes up a sizzling romantic romp guaranteed to spice up our reading pleasure.

Exciting glimpse into the world of publishing.
Jack & Krysta are childhood friends who both work for Rainier Paper. She's in the contracts department; he's in shipping. She likes lecturing him on how to improve himself; he likes writing, period. When Jack unexpectedly won in the Valentine Romance Contest by an unpublished author, he panicked! Fearful that his chance of being published would disappear if it was known that a *guy* wrote it (& of what the other guys in shipping would say if they every found out he was writing *romances*), he asks Krysta to masquerade as Ms. Valentine. When Krysta reads Jack's *steamy* novel, she begins to wonder if he's a good a lover for real as he is on paper. Touchingly tender & funny.

Mr. Young Goes to Boston

The best-known defector . . .
from the Christian Science Church details his lengthy career within the Church hierarchy and his eventual disillusionment with it. As a lapsed Scientist myself, I was particularly interested to know just what internecine machinations precipitated the slow downfall of one of the world's great religious institutions. The author, along with me and many others, continues to believe in the efficacy of the message while feeling a deep sadness at the lack of coherent leadership at the helm.

A General Practitioner
William L. Shirer in The Collapse of the Third Republic explains the "Miracle on the Marne": the Hun in 1914 thought he espied an advantage, overthrew his own plan to encircle Paris, and ran to meet a French army isolated on the East; the French saw his blunder and met him there in full force. Four years of trench warfare followed, but the Boches only marched down the Champs-Élysées twenty-six years after their first attempt, when the Third Republic went to Notre-Dame to pray for the miracle their incompetent generals could not repeat.

"Christian Science", Mary Baker Eddy writes, "is not a faith-cure." Alan Young describes his failed attempt to bring suburban horse sense to the edifice of Mother Church as Director of Communications, and diagnoses like the Practitioner he all but is all the Millennial ferment in the Church of Christ, Scientist.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Weir of Hermiston

Two faced man
This is a great book for all sorts of people, It is great how Robert Louis Stevenson describes Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. It is great on how the author uses both sides as a twisted sence of human. Mr Hyde a high hung man, Wants to cause havok every where he goes, Brutal murders etc, Dr Jekyll, Kind of a mad sientist, Wants to create a cure for the mentally ill. This is a great book, I would recommend this to anyone.

Leaves the 'great' Victorians flailing.
The first half of this novella can be counted among the most remarkable writing I have ever read. its sense of unstated terror and crisp, nightmarish atmosphere; its portentous introduction and proliferation of the double theme; its destabilising of its own narrative, where the violence of the language and the force of the metaphors makes the abstract material, and the material abstract; its evocation of London as a menacing organism, a miasma-wheezing labyrinth, with an economy that defeated Dickens, with streets and buildings embodying human flaws; its characterisation of a grim, barren, self-destructive men's world - all this take the novel away from the generic sensationalism or pseudo-scientific philosophy of the horror genre towards the metaphysical anxieties of Chesterton and Borges.

The rest is more familiar, made complex by innovative structure, ambiguous narration and a startling use of imagery. this is not a simple tale of man's good and evil side; in its admission of an ungraspable, shifting, multifarious existence, shown here in character, place and language, where metamorphosis is the only rule, we can see why Nabokov considers Stevenson a master. And yet the book also works as a lean, compelling thriller, even if, like everyone, you already know the twist. Emma Letley's introduction and notes are over a decade old, and need updating.

A cool study on information war...applied
An interesting start into a functional aspect of evolving information-based warfare. Going beyond just having "information dominance," this work explores the application of such knowledge with an explication of "BattleSwarm" doctrine. Returning to the controlled chaos of Mongol hoards, this study sees our capacities for information for integrated attack from all sides and from all dimensions. With a broad, historical outline that helps one's imagination, this study is a good start at the pros and cons this doctrine for the future.

Excellent introduction to a new theory of combat
First off, it should be stated that this is by no means a full book. Rather, it is more of a fleshed out briefing paper. That said, the authors have done a superb job of positing a new theory of combat and have gone to some lengths to establish it in the context of military history, and to consider some of the potential strengths and weaknesses of this nascent doctrine.

Swarming, or "BattleSwarm", as the authors refer to it, might be considered the logical endgame of maneuver warfare theory: small, highly mobile, highly lethal, and most importantly, largely autonomous units that converge on a point (either with force or fire) from all directions, and then disperse until called upon again. This mode of attack has the advantage of maximizing the application of fire when needed, while minimizing the exposure of friendly units to PGM's and massed enemy formations when not. To a degree, this is what we have seen American forces do in Afghanistan, but that was a result of ad hoc planning born of necessity. What the authors propose here, however, is a complete rethinking of the military (primarily the Army) to effectively engage in this new kind of fighting.

As one might expect, of paramount importance to the success of BattleSwarm is the development of networking technologies that can allow widely dispersed units to communicate with each other and command elements in an effective fashion. Moreover, the authors point out the need for a new command doctrine that will limit micromanaging of the battlespace, on the one hand, and insufficient coordination of assets on the other.

Ultimately, this study is just a first step, albeit a critical one. I fully expect that the authors will flesh this work out into a full-fledged book that will seek to overcome some of the difficulties they have outlined. In the meantime, this briefing provides a valuable framework within which to evaluate our successes and failures in Afghanistan (it should be noted, this was published prior to 9/11). It seems that military, out of necessity, is moving in the direction that has been outlined here, and as a result, understanding swarming and its application will be critical for anyone interested in the shape of our armed forces in the years to come.

Everyday hero book
Waiting for Mr. Goose is about a young boy who has realproblems to take things easy/ slowly. He has a hard time sitting stillpaying attention at school. One day at the pond he finds an injured goose. When he tries to catch him the goose just flies away. Over and over again he tries to catch the goose and over and over again the goose just flies away, till the boy finds out the way he have to do it. He makes the goose feel secure with him and that way he manages to catch the goose and help him.

This is a book that shows that sometimes you can do things you didn't think you could, if you just want to bad enough. The book is written in a way that makes the boy a bit of an everyday hero just because he did something that was almost impossible to him- to wait.

I liked this book because it was interesting to read, because the book's main character has Adhd, and makes something positive out of it.

Waiting for Mr. Goose
Realistic pictures reveal the frustration at sitting still and the joy of movement for the the AD/HD child. Stephen energetically swaggers and expessively twists when he walks. He even swings from the irresistible trees. He revels in the freedom of movement in the outdoors and withdraws from the restrictions on movement necessitated by school. Then he discovers a limping goose. It has its foot caught in a trap. The game warden can't catch Mr. Goose to free its foot. Stephen devises a plan to save the goose, but it involves him keeping still for long periods of time. That is torture for Stephen, whose body feels wiggly. But out of love for the goose, he perseveres and is finally able to catch it.

Girl Power
Janet Folger uses humor and real life experience incorporated with God's word to let you know God has more for you than just waiting around to find Mr. Right. Just like girlfriends sitting around a coffee shop, she discusses with the reader if there is a Mr. Right, how to get over Mr. Wrong, and what God wants us to do while waiting.
It's a quick, fun read but the reason I gave it a 4 is because of all the political stories she interjects. It won't bother most readers who are Republican, but some of you may question like me, "How exactly does praying for Bush to win an election relate to dating?" However, since her job is very political and huge part of her life, I'll cut her some slack. I didn't have any life changing revelations after I read the book, but it does remind you that God is in control. If God knows the number of hairs on your head then of course he knows who you are going to marry.

What's A Girl To Do While Waiting For Mr. Right
I found this book to be straight to the point and very enjoyable. I felt like it was my best friend talking to me! I could totally relate to what was being said and the analagies really made me view things differently. Over all this is a great book for all girls to read because it makes you realize you are not the only one going through this!

GREAT - Very Funny and Easy To Read and Understand
I actually only read a glimpse of what the book was about but once I received it found it to be very easy to understand and very funny it tells the story of how a young child would view this bump that Mom has growing and all the things that are going through his/her mind wondering what it could be. In the end it's a beautiful story of how it's a baby sister. The photos and the short story lines are perfect for a classroom - if you wish to explain when someone's Mom is expecting - but I recommend it to all. My husband enjoyed it as well.

A fun and funny way to break the news
When I was due with my second child, I read this book to my son, then two years old. The funny, easy-to-read story shows how a kid would see Mom's pregnant stomach-- as a weird, mysterious bump. By happily solving the mystery in the end, Mr. Henderson helped my son finally "get" it and look forward to the new baby! The pictures are hilarious-- you see something new to laugh at every time. I'm giving this book to every pregnant pal.

A great book on telling time!
My boys love this book ~~ even though they don't understand telling time yet, but this book is very entertaining for them especially with the pictures throughout it! It's great illustration with a great story and a surprise ending! If your child is learning how to tell time, this book is great!

And be warned, this book with its descriptive language will make you hungry! =0) This is just a fun book as well as educational!

Fun drawings throughout a highly entertaining picturebook.
Mr. Wolf is planning a dinner party for his barnyard friends, who question when this delicious meal will be served. His answer is vague and it seems evident the guests of honor at this special meal may be contributing more than they expect to the dinner itself - but the ending provides a real surprise. Fun drawings throughout.

Groovy, Near Groovalicious
This is a fine book. The analogies made are excellent; I like to read it often while drinking fine Earl Grey tea.

Masterful
This book is amazing. It really captures the triumph of the human spirit. This book shows in detail what it means to be an art and humanities teacher, the privileges, the responsibilities in imparting such cogent information to young americans. This book is a polished gem... a winner.

It's perfect except to the dedication to his daughter. All I have to say is Error!
