Mr. Schoenberg Does Mr. Capone Right!
Building and expanding upon the solid foundation previously laid by Pasley and Kobler and correcting old errors, and guided by the likes of top-notch Capone experts Mark Levell and Bill Balsamo, Schoenberg has crafted one of the best Capone biographies to date, far superior to Bergreen's ludicrous fluff. The author puts perhaps too much faith in the questionable testimony of "Born Again" hoodlum George Meyer but that is abbreviated and an almost a minor aside in this comprehensive, well-researched bio of America's all-time greatest gangster.

Outstanding
This is THE definitive biography of the world's most famous gangster. The book is exceptionally well-written, able to satisfy anyone from a casual layman to an organized crime expert. Schoenberg walks us through Capone's life, showing us why he did what he did and avoiding getting caught up in the usual myths surrounding him. The author's notes at the end of the book are extremely helpful. Most of all, Schoenberg gets almost all the dates and facts right when dealing with the events surrouning Capone's life. While I personally disagree with his take on the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, he presents this event and others like it in such a precise manner one cannot help but say positive things. Anybody seeking information about Al Capone should look no further than Mr. Capone. A few other books about him have been published in the last ten years, specifically one by Laurence Bergreen, which is a far worse book and yet has received more publicity the Schoenberg's opus. All others should be ignored. Mr. Capone is the best book ever written about Al Capone.

Brilliant!
Robert Schoenberg really did a masterful job. The way the author describes the Capone-era is breathtaking and I was pleased that he also focusses on Capone's rivals and mentor(s). Besides the enormous amount of research he did I was particularly impressed with his writing skills. His fluent and accurate style, the humour he puts into the text is simply fantastic. That's how the book earns its five stars. You read a story, not a series of facts. Schoenberg is very careful not to add to much superfluous information, something many biographers might learn from. I would say it's hard to put down, but I forced myself occasionally...so that I have something to look really forward to the following day.

Destined to become a classic of American literature
This book achieves the perfect blend of storytelling, historical research, compassion, and artistry. Drawing from the primary documents (the letters are reproduced in the book), Winnick creates a fully believable context for the touching exchange between the President and a little girl we can all relate to. She presents an example of how to use our imagination to travel through time by studying our cultural heritage. The illustrations perfectly match the narrative, rich with detail. Our two year old daughter already loves hearing the story told while seeing the pictures. I can't wait to see her read it for herself. This book will be passed on for generations.

wonderful
Mrs. Winnick brings magic to the Abraham Lincoln legacy. This book is a must for all children. I highly recommend this book for all parents to buy and read to their kids. It will not only provide hours of entertainment, but it will bring parents and their children closer together each time they read it.

Unbelievable Artistry
While Mrs. Winnick's storytelling ability proves to be far beyond what the average children book writer is able to communicate, I found the oil paintings delightful and engrossing. Mrs. Winnick displays a true talent for the arts and really knows how to provide for children interesting and educational tales about our country's history. I highly recommend purchasing this book and sharing Mrs. Winnick's magic with your children.

Mr. Lowe: Cartoons from the Classroom

I couldn't put it down!
I can't stop thinking about it. I wan't sure what to think when a friend got me the book for my birthday. I've read it at least 10 times in the six months since I got it. It's both hilarious and insightful.

Mr. Lowe's a winner!
It's been a long time since I laughed out loud at a comic strip, but Mr. Lowe had me grinning and laughing from beginning to end.

As a current classroom teacher myself, I especially related to the troubles and joys of Mr. Lowe. Even though I teach high school, and Mr. Lowe is a new 4th grade teacher, I found that we have much in common. Mark Pett has done an amazing job of capturing the universal issues of teaching and working with children, and has done so with a keen sense of humor. His cartoons provide much-needed levity in my over-stressed life. After reading a bit of Mr. Lowe, I find that I always feel better.

I think any teacher or school worker would find this book to be a real treasure. I also think anyone who has children will greatly appreciate it. Even if your only relation to school is as a student, Mr. Lowe is sure to make you laugh. Mr. Lowe the teacher and Mr. Lowe the book are both winners!

Hilarious!!
This book can make the most hardened student and burned-out teacher crack up. As someone who has taught elementary school, I can appreciate the trials and tribulations of Mr. Lowe. The poor guy just can't catch a break, but we love watching him try! Every teacher has had to put up with rascals like Quentin and goodie-goodies like Shanika, and we all know folks like Mrs. Stickler.

"Mr. Lowe" captures the spirit of teaching, with all its hilarious hijinks, depressing doldrums, and touching moments. Anyone who has spent time in elementary school -- as a teacher or a student -- should pick up a copy.

Mr.Putter and Tabby Paint the Porch
My three year old daughter Serena loves this book, we've read it and our two other Mr.Putter and Tabby books every night since we got it. she always laughs at mTabby's pink whiskers. This series of books is fun to learn to read from and a frolic for everyone.

We love Mr. Putter and Tabby!
My children, ages three and five, adore Mr. Puuter and Tabby, and I believe this is Ms. Rylant's funniest rendition of their adventures so far. When the box arrived, I read the book alone because I couldn't stand to wait. Ms. Rylant uses a nice collection of short and medium-length words for beginning readers, and the story rollicks along. Mr. Howard's illustrations capture the subjects' expressions beautifully. We checked these books out of the library so often that we finally ordered some to keep.

A laugh-out-loud book ...
My kids, ages 3 and 6, loved this book! We were all laughing out loud not only at the premise of the story, but at the illustrations, too. My 6-year-old giggled all the way through the book looking at the expressions on Tabby's face.

Cynthia Rylant has a unique talent for pulling on our heartstrings and tickling our funny bones.

A wonderful length for light reading
"Making Mr. Right" was the lesser of these two stories in that it went all too easily, and clothes were all there was to making the man. I got the impression at times that surface was all that mattered, when I'm sure the author didn't mean that; she just didn't have enough room to deal with other matters. Also, the misogynist atmosphere of the office: I was rooting for someone, hopefully the heroine, to take those boys to court for sexual discrimination! No one should have to work in those kinds of conditions. So in all, though this book had a good situation and interesting characters and a lot of good chemistry (sometimes that chemistry was too drawn out), it was a little too fluffy and surface for my tastes. But I look forward to more by the author.

"I Waxed My Legs for This?" sounds too much like the country song, but it was the better story with a lot of humor. Nicely-turned characters, great magnetism, and keep your hanky at the ready. Just the right length for this format.

Funny! Heartwarming!
This is a terrific book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm sure you will, too!

Denton and Jacobs are great!
I loved this Duet! Jamie Denton and Holly Jacobs sure know how to make you laugh. Both books were pure delight. Bravo, ladies! I can't wait to read more by both talented authors.

Mr. Bliss

This book is awesome
I love this book. I am a huge Lord of the Rings/Hobbit/Silmarillion fan, and have recently been reading some of Tolkien's non-Middle-Earth books, this being one of them. This book was written for his children and has illustratons by Tolkien. It's creative and funny, and the pictures are great.

A delightful children's tale. . .
. . .by the Master, JRR Tolkien.

Tolkien fans have long known about the existence of Mr. Bliss, but it remained unpublished for decades. Fortunately, this delightful hand printed and self illustrated volume can easily be obtained.

From the moment when Mr. Bliss decides to buy a motor-car, adventures of the most dramatic (and expensive) sort begin to happen. The observant reader will also note names throughout the book which bear resemblance to names in "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings".

This book demonstrates that Tolkien had many gifts -- and that he exercised his creativity outside the realm of Middle-Earth.

A wonderful experience for children aged 4 to 104. I highly recommend it.

Mr. Bliss could be a hobbit. . .
. . .and that can't be said for most of the Big People!

In this wonderful adventure, Mr. Bliss purchases a motorcar (definitely an unhobbitlike device) and proceeds to have all sorts of misadventures with it.

Any hobbit will sympathize with poor Mr. Bliss, living in a world where one is expected to foot the bill for tea for a family as large as the Dorkinses. Any hobbit will sympathize with the terror poor Mr. Bliss experiences driving through Three Bears Wood in the dark. And any hobbit will sympathize with Mr. Bliss's eventually handling of the situation!

Hobbits will also appreciate the fact that many of the Big People in the story have good, sensible hobbit names like Boffin and Gamgee.

A wonderful tale to read to young hobbits in the cool of the evening or before the fireplace.

Storyline from Publisher
Mr. Family by Margot Early- Harlequin Superromance #711 1996- Kal Johnson is a still-grieving widower with a young child. He has no intention of loving -- and perhaps losing-another woman. But it's become increasingly clear that his daughter needs someone besides him. A mother. So Kal places an ad offering a "celibate marriage" -- an ad answered by Erika Blade. He likes her letter and soon discovers that he likes her. More than likes. Which is the one thing that wasn't supposed to happen...

An Exceptional Book!
Mr. Family is by far the best novel I have read. To date I have read it at least 6 times. The story, characters and plot are so moving. Erika, Kal, Hiialo, they make you seem as if you are right there with them. Margot is completely awesome.

Yet another great book, Mr. Family
Mr. Family had me right after I read the summary on the back. We recieved this book through the mail, and there were a few for me to chose one, I picked up Mr. Family, and read it between calls at work, in three days. That's intense reading. The author has a way with her words, so greatly discriptive that I felt like I could be right there in Hawaii with the couple. The way Margot described Mr. Family's young daughter, and the fits she threw, and her every move just made it seem like I was right there watching this georgous little girl, playing in her room, or throwing a fit, or watching her run to the ocean. Margot is very well with descriptive words, and I hope everyone gets a chance to read this book.

Run, Don't Walk...
To pick up what is undoubetdly one of the strongest works in it's genre in a long time! This book is a thoughtful, witty, insightful and most of all, a TRULY MOVING, exploration of modern love and relationships. These writers go beyond trite surveys of a lost love or an unrequited crush. They paint truly vivid portraits of 1.)what it means to have a loved one die, 2.)toying with the idea of dating outside of your race and 3.)how tough love can be when there is a class difference between two partners, among many other topics. These writers are to be truly commended for allowing readers to glimpse some of the most deeply personal moments of their lives.

A Must-Read!
I heard about this book and couldn't wait to pick it up. It really should be required reading for anyone hoping to develop a lasting, loving relationship. For the first time, real life stories of love and loss have been compiled into one, action packed book. This book is so good that you just can't put it down...there really is a story in here for everyone. Ladies, get this book now! The "Talking Back," section features five incredible essays by black men including Kevin Powell and Victor LaValle...the men in this book write openly and honestly and its a great way to find out what Black men are really thinking. I strongly reccommend this book!

It's About Time!
This book is excellent! Finally, a book that speaks on relationships from the African American perspective and experience. I was hooked from the very first page. One of my favorites was the essay written by Kiini Ibura Salaam. It's called, "When Conception Equals Confusion..." This is a wonderful essay that discusses the unfortunate issue of paternity testing and what a single black mother and her child or children must endure from conception to the doctor's office.

Tracy L. Ruffin's essay, "Marriage: The Unfulfilled Prophecy" was so on point, I felt as though someone had broken into my home and read my journals. It was very comforting to know and feel that I am not alone in all my dating experiences and the pressure that is sometimes placed on us women to get married.

But what I think makes this book such a wonderful anthology, is the fact that editor, Taigi Smith included a talking back section for the brothers. This enables us to get the male point of view. I thought Richard Symister's "Wilderness 101" should be mandatory reading for all men.

Overall, this is just a great anthology and an excellent read!
