One of the great novels of the Second World War, right up there with the Caine Mutiney.

Registered Landscape Architect
A beautiful book evoking imagery of a time past that had been very instrumental in inspiring and providing access to America's love and appeciation of nature. In this book we are shown how these roads led us to our collective love of natural beauty in America - literally and metaphorically - in an historically accurate and academic work by the author whose love of these roads in Acadia and of nature's wonders in general are delightfully evident. Exquisite photographs!

Excellent, excellent, excellent
As a Clinical Psychologist working with children and families, I can give this book my heartfelt recommendation. Rarely are such complex and difficult questions answered so well without using jargon and confusing language. I frequently recommend this book to families, particularly to young parents.

A Nonstop Extravaganza
Mr. Rush has that common problem in the Mr. Men universe, a need for a job. But the problem is, he rushes through things so much that he can't manage to keep them very long. For instance, while working as a waiter, he rushes away the customers plates before they've barely had two bites of their food. Of course that will never do. But fear not, as in the rest of the books in the series, there WILL be a happy ending.

mr ryder's trophy
In addition to a fascinating golf story written with accuracy, humor and imagination, it was a joy to visualize the English landscape through the eye of a portrait artist. I read Mr Ryder's Trophy in one day. I couldn't stop.

Mr. Semolina Semolinus
This is a fantastic book! If you liked Paperbag Princess, you will love this book. The story is very well developed and is a positive book. (Especially for young girls!) This is a role reversal story about a princess who decides to create her own man (since she wasn't happy with any of the men she knew) and has to save him after he has been kidnapped by an evil queen! I give this book a definite 5 stars!

Mr. Sermon

This book proves it is never too late to change your life.
Whenever I smell lilacs, I think of "Mr. Sermon." I have read this book every springtime for the past 20 years. I was 19 when I first tripped across it and liked it so much that three years later I pretended I had lost it, paid the Lake Charles, La., library its purchase price and kept the book. This worn copy is by my bedside, along with the Bible, "Dracula," "Stranger in a Strange Land" and "Sense and Sensibility." Mr. Sermon's journey from a frustrated 50-year-old British schoolmaster to a fully alive 51-year-old master of his destiny has comforted, entertained and inspired me for two decades. The book falls open to my favorite sections. I have been known, on a bad day, to rush upstairs to pick it up and be soothed by certain familiar passages. Definitely not PC, R.F. Delderfield's book somehow doesn't offend even a feminist like myself. And now as I approach my own midlife crisis, I plan to use it as a sort of "Pilgrim's Progress."

Mr. Shints

Fugleberg Review
Sally Harball formerly of Polson, Montana has come up with another excellent book. This time a children's book with the unusual title of "Mr. Shints" - Con Shints, that is. That's how the word "conscience" sounds to the main character in the story, a little girl named Amy.

She discovers her conscience through the fantasy of her pet squirrel whom she names Mr. Shints.

In the introduction, the author writes, "I find a very fine line drawn between morals and the Ten Commandments, between our consciences and our souls - all that busy business stashed between our ears, the stuff of which no other soul is cognizant. It's classified information in our private computer files, having arrived there by way of education, environment, experience, or perhaps all of the above. Whether or not we ever delve into this file is our unrivaled option."

Sally asks, "Hasn't every child from four to 104 had some form of a Mr. Shints in his or her life?"

At the end of each chapter are reflections and/or questions for discussion.

Each chapter deals with one of a person's inevitable experiences encountered on the road of life - including instincts, illness, fairness, racial color, sharing, gratitude, spiritual, silliness, lost in a crowd, and death.

In the conclusion, the author states, "As all the Amys and their peers grow to adulthood, no doubt their Mr. Shints will remain intact, neatly tucked away within their souls to be called upon at their discretion."

"We will never understand all the happenstances we bump up against during our lifetime, but like Amy, with the help of our own Mr. Shints we'll figure them out in our own way and time."

This is Sally Harball's third book. The first two are, "Of Pearls and Pickles" and "Footprints in the Butter."

Mr. Six :

Take a ride in a killer's mind
Yes, it's not the longest or the best book ever written, but author Shawn Kupfer has delved deep into one man's pain and dementia. This is the story of a man who just breaks and starts killing people almost indiscriminately. He hears a rumor that a past love has gone missing, and goes on the prowl, taking down anyone who gets in his way. It's pretty violent -- not for younger readers -- but it manages to be its own quirky, odd love story of a mass murderer. It's definitely different, and even though the prose is relatively simple, Kupfer seems to have a way with words that emotes feelings for the main character, Johnny Six. I felt as if I'd been drugged after I finished this book, and that the world has looked a little different ever since that point. A definite must-read.
