Grand!
This book depicts the many hardships and sacrifices of early American western exploration from Stephen Long and his associates during their 1819-1820 expedition to the Rocky Mountains. Although heavily criticized at the time for not completely fullfilling their expectations, the overall information gathered was considerable. From geography, botany, zoology and geology, to Indian customs and cultures, their individual scientific publications speak for themselves. This is not a book about hostile Indian battles, numerous attacks by grizzlies, etc. which are somewhat expected of journals and narratives of this era. Rather, this is how these men described the various landforms, animals, plants and Native Americans that they encountered while suffering from thirst, hunger, fatigue, fever and climate. It is truly an engrossing book and the writing is very descriptive of how the American west was before westward expansion set in.

Creative and a good read!
This book is very entertaining! The dialoge is great and overall it is a wonderful story. The names used for the animals are very descriptive and humorous.

Young Sara is put in a predicament when she realizes she can communicate with the animals (Wollo Bushtail and others) and must be a laison between "human kind" and the "forest dwellers" to help solve a big problem.

I would recommend this book for pre-teens and older. I really, really enjoyed reading this story.

A wonderful resource for any physician & every radiologist
The Cross-sectional Atlas includes radiographic images of every possible cross section as well as a detailed illustrated pen & ink drawing of the same area for cross reference. These two images are together on the same page for easy reference, and the pictures are all of the highest quality-- easy to see. John Wiley & Sons has made a beautiful product. It's not just about a bear!
I have used this book for five or six years as a storyreader in schools all over the east coast. It is a story of freedom and justice, love and compassion and has sparked some marvelous discussions in 4th,5th and 6th grades. A warm story of an angry man who befriends a misused bear and sets him free and in that act frees himself of his own anger and mistrust. I love this book!!

Quick and easy culinary masterpieces!
Mr. Food (also known as Art Ginsburg) is the guru of quick and easy-to-make culinary masterpieces. This sequel to The Best of Mr. Food contains 175(!) recipes that are easy for the cooking novice to make, are quick, and absolutely delicious. There are chapters on 1) appetizers and snacks, 2) dinner items, 3) lunch items (lighter than those in chapter 2, anyway), 4) side dishes, 5) soups and salads, 6) breads, 7) desserts, and 8) cookies. (These are not the real chapter titles, but my interpretations.)

These recipes are great. You don't need to be Paris trained to make these dishes; anyone can make them. Also, they are really wonderful. I made his Triple Chocolate Cake (p.163), which was so delicious that I had to take it to work just to keep from eating the whole thing! I recommend this book very highly indeed.
