A Republican Military
Theodore Crackel's " Mr Jefferson's Army" is an excellent study of Thomas Jefferson's reform of the US military. Jefferson " republicanized" the military by downsizing and making it more efficient. He removed hostile Federalist officers who were adverse to republican principles. Jefferson is often critisized by people who like a standing military and bureaucracy. Jefferson saw both as hostile to liberty and the Republic. Crackel details how Jefferson remodeled the military by creating military academies such as West Point, and the Army Corp of Engineers. Jefferson saw the military no different than other aspects of society- to be republicanized. Overall a great read.

Mr. Jefferson's Army
This is an excellent military history book showing how a Republican Predsident stood down a chiefly Federlist Army. When Thomas Jefferson was elected President of the United States after John Adams the army needed political and social reform.

There was a need for a military academy to produce trained officers for all branches of the service. This is when the establishment of West Point came into being. Jefferson and his Secretary of War, Henry Dearborn went to work whipping the army into shape, a respectable force of 9000 men.

Prior to the Jefferson Administration the army consisted of patronage to the Federlist Party... no doubt from the influence of Alexander Hamilton and George Washington. Now, the task at hand, was to reform this military establishment. West Point was to become the training academy for the otherwise poorly prepared sons of the Republican faithful.

What once was paradoxical, Jefferson long viewed antithetical to a standing army, would create a military school. Jefferson is the man of paradox personified. Reading this book we see Jefferson come to terms with his army. Only later in James Madison's administration who became indifferent an inadequate to its maintainance undid much of what Jefferson and Dearborn created.

This is an excellent book with solid research and well documented. We get an idea of what it was like in a day at West Point early on after its inception.

This is an excellent work of military history of the United States.

The best Mr. Men book- my personal favorite.
Mr. Mischief loves to play pranks on the other Mr. Men characters. In this book, he does sneaky things to Mr. Happy, Mr. Greedy, and Mr. Funny. But of course, Mr. Mischief gets a taste of his own medicine! A hilarious story! I had this book as a child and rebought it as an adult. I still laugh when reading it today at age 27. All of the Mr. Men books are superb, and Mr. Mischief is one of Roger Hargreaves' best works.

Engaging
Back in college I got a job as a summer janitor at the local elementary school. One of the things I had to do was clean up in the library. I took this time as an opportunity to catch up on some reading... in the form of the Mr. Men series. Mr. Mischief is about a guy who enjoys causing trouble. It makes him laugh. It will make you laugh. But then something happens to him, and he learns a lesson.

Adorable children's book!
Without a doubt this is one of the best books for very young readers and parents to share. It is so cute! The story is amusing and the pictures are wonderful. I like the drawing of the Borzoi (Russian wolfhound) myself. Totally great and recommended.

Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog
Simple language and a hilarious storyline make this book perfect for the voracious or the reluctant reader. Mr. Putter and his cat tabby are a delightful pair, and their encounter with the neighbor's nightmare pooch will have kids laughing aloud. The accompanying illustrations only add to the text.

Perfect for children to read on their own, or with the help of a parent (because parents will find these stories equally charming).

A laugh-a-minute!
I picked this up at the airport returning from a trip to Ireland and I laughed all the way home. Anna is an extremely funnyy girl who ends up dating one lunatic after another. I've been there, met those men... brought back a lot of memories!

Very very funny!
A huge fan of Irish women writers I got my hands on this book after sampling Marisa's enjoyable story in Irish Girls About Town. Marisa's style is comic - very like Marian Keyes - and the character kind of reminds me when I was looking for a soul mate in all the wrong places. Anna the heroine, was bullied in school and is reluctant to go to the school reunion. Especially since the party (to whom partners are also invited) is being held in Victoria's house. Victoria was the school bully and has married a millionarie. Anna was her victim and although her career is going well she has no man on the horizon. But will she meet Mr Right in time for the party? After all she only needs him for just one night!

The Best Book Ever Read to Children!
This is my all time favorite book! When I was a child, I would get so excited about going back to school. Why? I knew on the first day of school, our Librarian would be reading to our class, "Mr. Wiggles". She would have a special "Mr. Wiggles" voice, and we all loved hearing it. When we reached the fourth grade, the Librarian said she'd no longer be reading "Mr. Wiggles" to us. We were so dissapointed, and asked her to continue. We made sure she knew we would never be too old for "Mr. Wiggles". Now that I am grown, and have a young child of my own, I read it to him. It is my son's favorite book, and our favorite time together. This book, and that Librarian, gave me the love of reading. Hopefully, it will do the same for my children. Read this book to your kids, and you will give them the gift of literacy.

Just what an elementary librarian needs!
Mr. Wiggle's Book is a very useful tool for the elementary school librarian who is trying to make sure that children take care of their library books. The illustrations are wonderful and very realistic. I have used this book in a story time situation and the children really thought that someone had written or torn this book. After using this book, the children really seem to enjoy making sure that their library books don't end up like Mr. Wiggle's.

Great for kids
This book is filled with neat experiments and tricks. I think it would be perfect for children who are not interested in science. Easy instructions, common ingredients, nicely illustrated. Don't you want to know how to get an egg in a bottle?

A life saver!
It was 9:30 pm on a Thursday evening when my sixth grader casually announced that he had a science project due - the next morning! He had to produce a homemade musical instrument. My suggestion of a toilet roll kazoo didn't cut it. Mr. Wizard to the rescue! Using a ruler,a pencil, some dressmaking pins and an empty cigar box I happened to have been saving, just in case, he put together a delicate "piano" which earned an A. The science teacher said he'd never seen one before! Thank you Mr. Wizard for writing a book which uses things that you can readily find about the house and which explains why they work.

A graceful, insightful writer
Kathleen Sharp is a writer of exquisite grace and skill. She's a tenacious researcher and interviewer and fills her works with an energetic blend of facts and fluidity. If the earlier days of Hollywood power interest you, Kathleen should be your guide.

The Real Inside Scoop at Last - Brilliant!
This is an important book. I've been waiting a long time for someone to report the insider details about how the Wassermans impacted U.S. politics as early as John Kennedy's election, how their mafia ties helped them control and skyrocket their entertainment empire, how Lew himself wheeled and dealed alternately like a king and a common criminal. This man had more federal investigations into his business than Enron, but he came out smelling like a rose every single time. Wonder why? The answers are here. Today, all of us - people around the world - have been shaped by the Hollywood-based entertainment media. How did this happen, and what does it mean to you and the future? For answers large and small, this is the one book to read.

a beloved book
My 21 month old loves this book. She begs for it by name. She loves investigating with Mr. Bear. As a byproduct of our many readings has learned many words from the book. We highly recommend it!

A wonderful first picture book for toddlers
One of our all time favorites. Mr. Bear has fallen asleep reading the newspaper and now he can't find his baby! This is a simple, sweet story with charming illustrations. It also has very durable lift flaps. We've been reading it with our daughter since she was just months old and now it is one of her favorites to sit and "read" through by herself. I notice it is one of the first books visiting toddlers and preschoolers go for when come to our house. Highly recommended.

Mr. Bell's Fixit Shop
This is a beautiful story of a friendship between a child and an old man. It teaches kindness and compassion. It has earned a place in our "favorite stack", a place for my children's most cherished books. My daughter continues to pull it out from time to time and read this lovely story...she's nineteen years old! I know this book will be one that she'll enjoy reading to her own children one day.

This is a fantastic Book, every kid should read it.
This book has great pictures and tells a great story. It gives every child hope that if something bed were to happen there will always be someone there to help fix things. This was my favorite book when I was really little and I still think it is a adorable book. The moral that this book teaches children is a great one. But you will have to read it to find that out.
