Mr. murder was an awesome book
Mr. Murder, by Dean Koontz, was an amazing book that captured my attention from beginning to end. This book is packed full of terror and thrill that will had me on the edge of my seat. The characters were unique, in that you felt like you got to know them from the book. The book has so much detail it actually made me feel like I was a part of this world.

it was so exciting that I read the book in less than a week.
Ilove the way Mr. Murder was characterized to look like his victim. It was like i could picture every scene on a movie screen. I also admired the way Dean K. captured every nuiance of the characters as well as the scenes.

A Sleeper with Style
My older sister turned me onto this book - and she was right, as older sisters often are. It is a real gem. She discovered it when she was Downunder on holiday last month and brought it back with her. The author is an Australian journalist who writes insightful and human stories. Half the book features Australian writers, half features American, English and Canadian authors. Each chapter takes a different approach and you end it wanting more. I liked the humor, I liked the sharp observations, I liked the way he made me feel as if I had met the subjects. I just wish American journalists wrote like this - read it, you will enjoy the experience.

Mr Lunch dishes up a literary feast
It's fascinating when writers are put in the spotlight - some flourish and some flounder. This collection became compulsive bedside reading for me - it's not heavy on literary theory but it sure revealed the people behind the author's cloak in a personal, perceptive and frequently funny way. I really got the feeling that I was meeting the people interviewed - warts and all. Yet it was done so as to leave dignity intact. Vanities, secrets and courage were all revealed. It made me want to rush out and buy many of the subjects' books. I guess the best comment is that I was sorry to finish. I also liked the way the authors were such an international range - and I recommend the chapters on Antonella Gambotto, Kinky Friedman, Morris West and Brian Keenan in particular. More please.

Entertaining Mr Sloane

OH, DADDA!
When the film of Joe Orton's ENTERTAINING MR SLOANE opened in Manhattan (at what is now the Chapel of Faith, Hope & Charity) Andy Warhol went & declared it the most decadent thing he had ever seen. Poor Andy. He was more familiar with cookie jars than he was with the written word. Orton's take on middle-class morality isn't that much different from that of Shaw's Alfred Doolittle's except Doolittle talks about it & Orton gives us the experience. The way the Pope & Cardinals are handling the current sex scandal within the Roman Catholic Church would be right at home here. Orton's rude, funny lines often come at you from angles you didn't know were there. Kath, a middle-aged woman is showing Mr Sloane a room he can rent in the house she shares with her father (the Dadda) which is in the middle of a garbage dump. (In the movie this was changed to a cemetery which is, I think, a mistake.) Within a few minutes she's got the young man's trousers off & prone on a sofa. Enter her brother Ed who first wants the young man out but after giving him the once over offers him a job. The fourth member of the cast is the father who seems to remember something about the young man which isn't so nice. What Orton does with this central situation is always hilarious but also grounded in the experiences of his middle-class upbringing. His dialogue is at its best when the characters' words have nothing to do with the subject at hand. The advantage of reading scripts like this is that as you are unlikely to see a really satisfactory production of the play, in reading it you are only as limited as your imagination. Orton's work has the WILDE EFFECT. You never know when a line will suddenly pop into your mind & leave you helpless from laughter.

Joe Orton Strikes again...
Although it is now advised that you buy this book as part of Joe's collection of plays, this in it's self is still a wonderful addition to anyone's collection. From the hilarious old man Kemp who knows more than he is given credit for, to the perverse yet strangely intriguing Kath, Mr Sloane's "Mama" and lover. As is expected with any Joe Orton play this breaks all conventional boudaries yet still manages to be riveting entertainment. Like I say, get the collection to truly appreciate this under-rated genius, but you will not be dissappointed when you have bought, read, re-read and read again this truly unique play.

Go Gomez!
Both Jack Smith and Mr. Gomez have passed on from this life. Thanks to Jack's gifted writing ability, you can experience the culture, beauty and patience pace still to be found in Baja California. I have been there and seen the house, the road, the federalli check point, the cliffs and the fishing village. I have had the good fortune to have stayed in a home near Jack's and met others who followed Jack's column in the LA Times during those years of construction of his "mansion". I have searched used book stores and bought on-line used copies while new books have not been published since 1997. I am so glad it is back in print so I can recommend it to my friends. Great reading and funny too!

a wonderful, easy, entertaining read.
"God and Mr. Gomez", while not a recent book by a long shot is a timeless read. It is written in the hilareous style that only Jack Smith can pen. You blend in with the characters and it being a true story makes it all the more interesting and satisfying. A great read for summer, or anytime

Enjoyable Fare
These two radio shows expose us not only to the great Sherlock Holmes but to English culture.

Masterful, timeless work by Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce
This radio series, which aired in the 1940's, is still as fresh as the day Boucher and Green borrowed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's pen and decided to write some "further" adventures of the great man. Their stories are based on incidents suggested in the original Doyle tales and are brought to life in splendid fashion by the consumate radio and screen duet of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. The sound effects are superior, the mood is at times dark, often humourous and always mysterious and entertaining.

A wealth of new informations about Irish traditions
In a fascinating series of short essays, a real treasure of informations otherwise almost impossible to access about many aspects of Irish history, Irish traditions, social structure, nobility, legal system, heraldry etc. A must for history lovers and particularly for anyone interest in genealogy or heraldry in Ireland.

A fascinating overview of Irish history, nobility, heraldry!
This composition is a truly fascinating overview of Irish history, nobility and heraldry. The work contains valuable insights concerning the impact of the English control of Ireland, as well as a strong and clear picture of the feudal society that existed prior to the English invasion. The material primarily covers the territory that constituted the old Kingdom of Munster, but the reader will find references and similarities to the conditions found throughout Ireland. There is truly something for every student of Irish history.

The mr. men and little miss books are great!
These books are great! They used to be very popular when I was a child and now some of them are out of print. I'm glad to see most of the books still available, they are great for young kids, and a laugh for adults!

This is a very funny book!
Little Miss Naughty tries to be very naughty and do naughty things to other people. Some of the Mr. Men got tired of her naughty tricks. She was going to paint Mr. Nosey's nose red, but someone tweaked her nose. Everytime she wanted to do something naughty, a surprise person tweaked her nose. She got a very sore nose, and learned not to do so many naughty things. This is a very funny book.
