This was my Textbook in Massage Therapy school
This book covers the basics of Anatomy and Physiology for a student getting started. It is structured well, and is easy to skim through and find answers if you're looking for a specific question. Also, it's not so dry as some textbooks, so you don't fall asleep so easily while studying!

The best thing about this book is the CD Rom study guide. The study guide has an overview of the book, with pictures and video clips of computer animated sequences of cell function, muscle function, and many other things. It also has activities in which you click and drag answers for study sheets. At the end of each section there is a quiz, with randomly selected questions from the study material, and at the end of a chapter a unit exam. This helped me tremendously in preparing for tests. You can test yourself several times with differing tests(since the questions are random)and so be more prepared for your exams in class.

don't even try it
well, to any of those who already have read any good max book, can realize of the poor kind of information that is in this one. I agree there's no many good books of 3d animation in spanish, and those from anaya multimedia are also very bad books, but, well.. I could tell learn some english and have some good books like the inside series from new riders.

It's a great book!
I already knew enough about 3D Studio as to make my own models. I wanted to know more, and I found this book. I think it's great, even for someone like me that already used 3D Studio a lot. It was also between the cheapest ones, so I didn't doubt when I bought it. Really nice, it does a deep coverage of each command, and I prefer Spanish (my original language) to English any day.

Horrible organization
I bought this book for my Intro to Comparative Politics class and was utterly disappointed. Not only is the language totally dumbed down and completely bias, but the overall organization of the book will give you a headache! Good luck if this is required reading!!

Excellent introduction to comparative politics
Sodaro's textbook is a fine introduction to the field of comparative politics. By combining political science theory with actual case studies, the book imparts specific knowledge of various systems and problems of governance while familiarizing the reader with the "lingo" and major concepts of comparative politics. Sodaro's discussions of democracy and parliamentarianism are especially impressive.

The student of international affairs will find this textbook useful as a reference, even after completion of introductory coursework in comparative politics.

Excellent Reading for the Introductory Student
Here, the emphasis is on the global trend toward democratization. Solid definitions and engaging narratives make this book- however lengthy- an excellent introduction to the widely varying governments of the world. The text considers with sufficient detail the (mostly) democratic systems that have come to prevail recently, and how their variants have developed to accomodate the populations of the world.

Centipede (MP): Prima's Official Strategy Guide
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (January, 2000)
Author: Knight
Amazon base price: $5.99
Used price: $149.50
Average review score:

Disappointing for a guide/strategy book
The authors good intentions fell short in helping one better understand the game strategy and ability to figure out problems encountered in the various missions. Black and white illustrations were hard to decipher and help topics were too brief, often only one sentence, to be of much aid. More text content and color photographs would have made for a much nice guide. Although one will find some help topics of interest, the player will still have to mostly depend upon their own trial and error mistakes to learn how to advance in this game.

A very helpful guide-the only one out there that I know of!
I found this stratedgy guide to be extremely helpful. I have been playing this game for a while but until I read the guide I really could not score as high as I do now. Many pointers as to how to kill the many "Big Bugs" at the end of each level. I liked it and disagree with the writer from Texas. All of the stratedgy guides I have for all other games (which cost much, much more are in black and white as well. I'm happy! Thanks Knights.

Interesting story turned into a bore
Most readers of "The Rebel Who Lost His Cause" will probably conclude that John Beckett led a fascinating life during extraordinary times. Nevertheless, the author lets the story drag throughout much of the work, making a 215-page book feel much longer. The author depends too heavily on Beckett's own writings. Given that the author is the son of the book's subject, I would have liked to see a greater number of sources and more perspectives in this work. An author would have to TRY to make Beckett's life seem dull, but somehow, the author succeeded at doing just that.

A detailed, candid, and honest biography.
The Rebel Who Lost His Cause: The Tragedy of John Beckett, MP is a detailed and honest biography of the British Left Wing Labour MP who became the third ranking Fascist in Britain at the time of World War II. His career was one that was constantly accompanied by controversy and drama. His natural intelligence and wit, allied to his strong stands on contentious issues, marked Beckett for checkered Parliamentary life, but it was his association with Oswald Mosley that set many of his friends against him and brought an unsatisfactory end to a dramatic and traumatic public life. Biographer Francis Beckett provides an accurate, insightful, memorable, highly recommended account of a gifted, controversial man in a time marked by the drama of warring political philosophies, armies, and personalities.

A boring book
As a student trying to come to grips with what Informations Systems are I found this book very hard to get into. The author seems to constantly make a series of statements(which go on for ever) rather than discuss the basic concepts involved.
It is grossly over schematic, and the reader could be forgiven for thinking that O'Brian could write ten chapters on how the corner store should be run !

e-Relevant
James A. O'Brien really did a wonderful job w/Introduction to Information Systems (IIS) Essentials for the e-Business Enterprise 11th edition. The guiding philosophy of the text is very germane, the style/voice is well written & easily approachable, chapter content is thoughtfully laid out, the topics are well-rounded, the jargon introduced & seamlessly integrated w/plain English definitions, & the book is up-to-date in regard to changing technology & trends in e-Business.

Frankly, I've always been of the opinion IT is, well, IT & functions in a vacuum, far removed from the politics of human resources, the spirit bunnies of the sales department, or the prosaic mentality in operations. Yet, I couldn't be further off the mark. IT has come a long way from the couple of underappreciated & oft harangued code slingers in a small, chilled room filled w/tonnes of electronics.

Ok, so some things haven't changed-underappreciated & oft harangued-however, as e-Commerce & e-Business have taken on greater significance to the corporate world, the IT arena has expanded to include a wider range of demands & responsibilities to an organization. Granted, IT crews are still mavericks & like to eschew responsibilities beyond maintaining systems integrity, but, like it or not, they're steadily integrated into corporate structure, & no longer working in a space of their own. Indeed, the days of smirking @ clueless end-users are numbered. This is where IIS, if anything, serves as a gentle & poignant wake-up call that IT is no longer separated from the rest of the organization.

What's particularly telling, the text is an odd paradox; meant for IT & non-IT would-be managers alike. O'Brien pertinently explains how IT has become a vital component of business just as accounting, sales, human resources, etc are necessary elements to the success of an organization, & worthy of study even if not destined to work in IT. For anyone wondering how does this apply to "me", IIS is demystifying a lot of IT for non-IT managers. So, don't be surprised if a non-IT manager calls the bluff on whether or not something can or can't feasibly be done.

The technical aspects from this text aren't going to enlighten those of us who routinely read IS manuals; uber-geeks might get frustrated w/the basics included in the tech sections & decide to nitpick. For instance, when O'Brien explains & compares the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model versus the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). However, as a friendly neighbourhood IT geek, I realise everyone starts somewhere, & this book is meant to impart basic concepts & provide a general working foundation for understanding e-Business as a whole, not a specific technical manual.

In fact, what makes IIS so great is the pedestrian natuare of its content. While we tech-heads know our own little world, we're generally not terribly cognizant of IT/IS issues facing other departments. IIS readily explains a basic groundwork for IT/IS in relation to other areas of an organization. Certainly, I'm of the opinion that "user" is spelled w/a silent "L" when I get questions from people struggling w/a simple application. However, after reading O'Brien, I'm inclined to a greater degree of tolerance for end-users; after all, not everyone gets the basics & logic possessing developers to determine the best ways to incorporate the needs of an application.

I'll take it a step farther & say end-users-even those who aren't interested in management of any sort-should contemplate reading IIS. I believe even vehement technophobes would come away w/a respectful appreciation of how e-Business impacts their company. Further, users @ the management level will gain some insight as to why the IT staff always seem so jaded & dour due to end-users justifying that silent "L".

As I've noted in other reviews; w/any text relating to the technology world, a book would be incomplete w/o jargon-I'd seriously question the validity of any manual free of geek-speak-however, O'Brien skilfully bridged the gap between technophile & technophobe. Though, the ubiquity of tech speak has become commonplace to the degree of confusion, IIS explains terms in end-user friendly language w/o alienating any party.

IIS is structured around the 5 major regions of IT: foundation, information technologies, business applications, development processes, & management challenges. The chapters are built, as O'Brien says, in a modular approach. Content from previous & upcoming chapters is smoothly inserted, &, chapters can stand alone or in any combo w/each other, making skimming an easy process. While it seems a bit much to introduce concepts from upcoming readings, it really works to the reader's advantage as the author only touches upon the subject, weaving in & noting where such material will come later. Therefore, when the reader arrives @ the portion dealing w/this material, its application is understood from making its earlier acquaintance.

Each chapter contains 4 current real world case studies w/relevant questions for contemplation of the studies. These studies are incredibly useful, indeed, for those reading industry standards like C-Net & IT Papers, will immediately appreciate the value of having news stories as case studies.

IIS falls down in one place: illustrations. The amount of illustrations would put a years worth of USA Todays to shame. Worse, most violate a pet peeve of mine. While the responsibility of the layout editors, I despise when a text refers to a chart that's on the next page! Ergo, I have to flip back & forth to get anything from the illustration.

Aside from illustration flaws, IIS introduces readers to basic, & sometimes advanced, ideas surrounding all the functional components of e-Business. From enterprise resource planning (ERP) to supply chain management (SCM), it's all here. Further, the "why" these are important to IT & the rest of the organization are explained so even the most cynical help desk personnel will appreciate their significance. O'Brien's book is incredibly relevant, fantastically current, & led me to a greater appreciation for e-Business beyond what's involved in maintaining a system.

Introduction to information systems
This book is just what it claims to be--an introduction to information systems. There is not a tremendous amount of detail here, but I believe there is enough to give the reader a good idea of the concepts involved. At times, the author does seem to carry on more than is needed, and often you can understand the concept of a chapter very well just by reading the sentences containing the bold words. The best part of the book, in my opinion, is the use of real-world examples, to show how the concepts discussed are being put into use, and how they have benefited real-life companies.

Chances are, if you're buying this book, it's for a college level course. I am a non-business major, and this book was part of a class I took as a general education credit. For this, I think the book is adequate, because it gives a decent introductions into IS without a lot of details. BIS majors, however, will not benefit a great deal from this book, as everything is so basic that it will be of little benefit to someone serious about working with information systems.

Since its cheap I guess you can't lose too much
But the book really was only marginally useful. It was written as a textbook but I don't really think that it gave a good understanding of Systems Analysis and Design, except for small systems design.

Essential Reading
This very important book will earn you course credit and also apply toward a valuable ICCP ACP or CCP certification, the standard for US Armed Forces and Government Agencies. This is not an easy certification to master or achieve, so pay attention to the detail in this book. The book terminology is relevant to the industry today, and the repetitive approach is geared toward an important cognitive technique: that you are more likely to remember something if you hear it or see it more than once. It's a wonder why somebody would bother with education, who is calling such important material 'garbage' or 'hi-tech dribble.' These people should re-examine why they are in school, why they are taking this class, and why they are reading this book? And it shouldn't be because mom or dad or anybody else wants you to. This book is designed to be interactive and therefore layered with repetition to enhance learning. It should be to LEARN as much information and technique as possible before getting a real-world job, where these skills make the difference. I was a software engineer, multi-level trained in the systems analysis and design standards of James Martin and Edward Yourdon, still applicable today.

A "Must Have" tool for Systems Developement
I was introduced to the 1994 version of this book during a Systems Analysis and Design class as part of a Master's Degree program. I was impressed with its thoroughness, and although, not necessarily written at an "entry-level", it is understandable to people possessing some background & experience in the systems development arena. I am a Quality Improvement Manager for a major telecommunications and system/software development company and I use it almost daily. This new version expands and updates information supplied in earlier versions of the book and incorporates a very thorough indoctrination into Object-Oriented (O-O) methodologies. I've seen this book being used as a text book in Mid-West and East coast Universities and colleges--in various areas of educational pursuit!! This is a cornerstone reference book in my library. Anyone serious about learning and maintaining sound methodologies, processess, procedures, and techniques in systems analysis and design should keep an updated version of this book handy--I do!

Warning....
Be forthwarned.... I ordered the 3rd ed. of this book and received the 2nd ed. instead. The seller was misleading under the comments section of the book he sold me..... a new listing shows that he's selling the 2nd ed. and not the 3rd ed. He changed this comment once he received an email from me stating otherwise. He wouldn't offer me a refund for the book and now I'm stuck with this one for a class which begins in a week.

It's the wrong book
There seem to have been a mistake in the shipping of the product I ordered.

I was under the impression that I was ordering Management Information Systems for the Information Age by Stephen Haag, et al 2nd Edition (2000).

However, I recieved the book today (3/11/02) and it is the 1st Edition (1998), and I need the book for class which begins on Thursday, 03/14/02.

Best web support
I wish all my books were from McGraw Hill - the support is awesome! A full glossary online and sample tests and key study points all ready to copy and paste into your own study notes!!! Really wonderful company.
