Si sabes poco y nada de Linux, este libro te será muy util. Es un excelente manual de consulta por cualquier duda que tengas en la instalación y configuración de Linux. No profundiza mucho, pero lo recomiendo para quien empieza en Linux o para el que no entiende nada sobre este sistema operativo.

Este libro proporciona al lector que quiere comenzar a usar Linux todo lo necesario: desde la version completa del Corel Linux (muy sencillo de usar) hasta cada paso necesario para manejarse en el con la misma facilidad que lo hacia en Windows. Es extremadamente practico en todas sus secciones. No es necesario meterse con complejas configuraciones (mi miedo inicial antes de embrollarme con Linux), en cambio este manual te lleva paso a paso por cada menu necesario para tener el SO funcionando perfectamente.

This book is a great learning tool! It "teaches" you about your own body, how it works and why you should care about what you eat, exercise, etc. The book is very well structured, with an objectives list at the beginning of each chapter and reasoning skills questions at the end, that helps you develop study and observation skills. This is a great book that changed the way I see my body, I learned a lot with this book!!

Excellent college book and I intend to keep this in my library for future reference. This book was well done for the beginner and some advance users. This book covers many step-by-step solutions using excel and the "TI83 calculator."

I'm a former teacher who was given an advance copy of this text to review. This is an excellent intermediate algebra text. It is NOT an introductory algebra book; the authors have published another text for the beginning student (ISBN 0-07-236371-1). However, chapters one and two (which comprise a full 200 pages) provide good review of basic algebraic manipulations and linear functions. It will therefore serve admirably as the text in classes where the students vary in their level of preparation and a certain amount of review is required.

The bulk of the book presents the standard topics one associates with a full semester (i.e. one full high school year) Algebra II course. These include an introduction to functional relationships, the manipulation of polynomial expressions, finding roots of polynomial equations, and good sections on complex numbers and logarithmic and exponential functions.
The book comes with a CD that provides interactive tutorial help linked to the text, a passcode that can be used to gain access to an on-line tutorial site on the web, and a set of videos (sold separately) that show instructors explaining and solving practice problems from the text. These features, together with numerous problem sets based around the use of graphing calculators, provide the "up-to-date" resources that many instructors expect from modern textbooks. However, bells and whistles don't impress me. Don't get me wrong, the CD is well produced and informative and I'll bet that the web site is a good one (I didn't bother to sign-on). Call me old-fashioned but I feel very strongly that a good textbook must stand on its own merit. This one does. Some aspects of the book that deserve special note (in my own, subjective, order of importance)are:
1. The number of practice problems is enormous
2. Each chapter contains thorough mid-chapter and end of chapter reviews. In addition, each chapter has a short cumulative review of all material presented in the text up to that point. This cumulative reinforcement is quite worthwhile.
3. The book has an "Application Index"; lists of problems arranged by subject (ex. business, construction, chemistry, biology, investment, sports...) with links to their locations in the text. This is a great resource for instructors, and it will help to remind students of the utility of mathematics in areas that are of interest to them. A nice touch!

The text itself is very well written. Explanations are superb. I found that my own understanding in several areas improved significantly while scanning through the text and doing practice problems. I didn't notice a single error in the book. Editorial review seems to have been very thorough.

This is a gem of a book; arguably the best on the market in the niche of intermediate algebra. It is certainly the best I've ever seen.

I took this course in college because it was required for my major. I honestly have to say that this book is extremely thorough. It covers all body systems in great detail it's diagrams are extremely helpful.

Yo siempre quise crear una pagina web, pero en la epoca que yo empece a navegar (1996) las herramientas para construirlas eran inexistentes. Habia que editar HTML y aprenderse todos los comandos me parecia muy complicado. Ahora, hay muchas maneras de construir una pagina. Yo, que compre el MS Office 2000 Premium, tuve la oportunidad de obtener el Frontpage 2000. Me las arregle para construir un par de cosas. Luego, descubri el manual aca en Amazon, me parecio muy interesante, y sabia que MP editaba buenos libros de computacion por referencias de amigos. Leyendolo, no solo que mejore sustancialmente en mi estilo para crear webs, sino que logre aprender HTML, despues de tanto tiempo. Las explicaciones son claras y detalladas, y en pocos pasos se puede lograr un estilo profesional como el de sitios importantes de Internet, con marcos y tablas, botones con efectos e incluso Java. La teoria y la practica estan muy bien combinadas, y las evaluaciones incluidas en el CD son excelentes para probar cuanto aprendi realmente. A MP y el autor, muchas gracias por tan excelente libro.

I have chosen to review this book in English for a very good reason. I run a computer training school in Northern California. We have had a flood of interest from a very large community of Spanish speaking clients that have been frustrated with traditional computer schools that only teach in English. The students all report that it is difficult enough learning Microsoft Office 2000 applications, but even more difficult with the language handicap. These books have leveled the playing field. Now our students can focus on the application in Spanish while learning English at another school. Our lectures are still in English, but these books make it very easy to follow along. We are all pleased with the ease and clarity in which the books are written. If you know of anyone that is struggling with both English and Office 2000, I highly recommend this book. The book comes along with a CD that has examples, audio clips, text and lessons, all in Spanish. As an added bonus, there is included, a copy of Windows 98 second edition that converts your installation of Windows 98 from English to Spanish, making the lessons very easy to follow. We advise our students to focus on learning how to use the applications, but most jobs here, at least, require at least a competent level of English comprehension.

Frankly, I always had the idea of setting up my own, personal web server and a LAN at home. Apart from the fact I chose Windows 2000 for it, I needed to know HOW to do it, how to setup the connections, the protocols, etc. This guide helped me a lot, especially with the transition from consumer SOs (like Windows 98) to a professional one like Win 2000. The net setup is really detailed and easy to follow; it describes lots of the utilities included very carefully, and it really shows how to put into use the system as a FTP or web server.
