Logical Ghost Hunting
Maurice Schwalm is famous in the midwest for his approach to investigating hauntings, crop circles and psychic phenomena. His research methods are intense and get into areas where other researchers and authors do not tread. His extensive collection of psychic photography includes his own photographs and those of other photographers who realized they had "unknowns" in their pictures. Most people have had experiences they can not explain, and this book is a good reference guide to variations in manifestations. And should you dare to investigate, the locations are given.

Step-by-step garden guide with lots of great information
Book contains about 370 pages divided into 11 major sections. Sections are Annuals (29 pages), Bulbs (29 pages), Fruits (34 pages), Herbs and Vegetables (30 pages), Houseplants (30 pages), Lawns (26 pages), Perennials (30 pages), Roses (28 pages), Shrubs (32 pages), Trees (30 pages), and Vines & Groundcovers (30 pages).

What makes the book unique is that each section discusses the material for every month (hence the title, "month by month"). Each month contains about 2 pages of instructions for planning, planting, care, watering, fertilizer, pests, and pruning. Each section starts with several pages introducing the topic.

Example of Melinda Myers advice: Tree section (April), "Do not prune Oaks and Honeylocust once growth begins. Wait until the dormant season to avoid disease problems".

Oops, I wish I would have had this book earlier. I did prune my Oak in April a few years back, and I now have a disease problem.

Besides the great plant instructions, the books contains amazing maps of Wisconsin (page size maps with county names). Maps contain USDA Cold Hardiness, Annual Precipation, Average First Frost, and Average Last Frost. Also includes lists of crop dates, UW Extension Service addresses, dry tolerate perennials, and much much more.

This is an excellent wealth of plant tips for anyone gardening in Wisconsin. It's a must have book!

The Offer: A Novel of Suspense (Five Star Mystery)
Published in Hardcover by Five Star (February, 2003)
Author: Robert J. Randisi
Amazon base price: $25.95
Used price: $19.32

taut suspense chiller
Assistant Curator at the St. Louis Art Museum Robin Lobianco meets gorgeous Vince and Amy Wheaton at a museum event. The trio hit it off and start to socialize, which is good for the curator who is separated from her husband Frank. Following one particular event, a somewhat intoxicated Robin joins the Wheatons in a ménage a trios.

What she did mortifies Robin, who wants to move on and forget the sexual encounter. They ask Robin to move in with them as they love her, but she is horrified by the suggestion and rejects it. They begin harassing her through greeting cards until Robin turns to the police for help. Detective Jack Jones, on clerical duty with the death of his third partner in the last two years is assigned to help Robin because the mayor declared the museum a key part of the city. As the Wheatons' campaign of terror increases, only Jack stands between them and their destruction of Robin, who, they insist, they love.

Fans of taut suspense chillers will be unable to refuse to read THE OFFER. The story line works because the key players seem human. The Wheatons are a Fatal Attraction duet whose obsession seems frighteningly real. Robin is a powerful victim filled with remorse while Jack is a cop struggling with being a death magnet that only his wife the stripper helps his esteem. Robert J. Randisi turns up the tension leaving the audience to think twice about whom they accompany home.

Excellent reference and design tool
I purchased this book a couple of months ago thinking of it as an aditional reference book. It contains the practical approach that we use in the day to day construction process for oil and gas pipelines at Boscan Field in Venezuela. It's amazing how the authors reflects sharply and easily every step of the pipeline design and construction. The section dedicated to transient analysis is fully documented with a real word example and the parallel piping is covered within the teory discussed.

Excellent Book.

Good Commentary
In this work Yangsi Rinpoche, a tulku with the training of a Tibetan scholar, brings the power of Tsongkhapa's masterwork alive for all of us. The Lamrim Chenmo is a Tibetan Mahayana teaching for a fortunate being to go to enlightenment. It is well expounded by Nagarjuna and Asanga. Originally, it had been composed by Lama Atisha. The lamrim is the essence of Lama Atisha's enlightenment. It's also the essence of Tsongkhapa's realizations, who had written extensive commentary on Atisha's masterwork, "Lamp on the Path to Enlightenment." This particular lamrim, according to Yangsi Rinpoche, contains everything one needs to know about Mahayana Buddhism. What's more, as what lies within is attainable by each and every one of us with the correct sincerity and effort employed toward our Buddhist practice. Here is a brief segment from the book:

"Even when you practice a complete path, that path must not be chaotic and random. If it is complete but chaotic and random you cannot achieve enlightenment, which means you cannot do perfect work for sentient beings. Therefore, you have to practice the whole path towards enlightenment and you must do so in the correct order."

At this point, he introduces the lamrim as that path. You know, I must admit this book is at times a little stuck in doctrine, but it's forgivable. All around it's a fascinating text and quite alive in concern to the often perplexing reads you find while approaching Tibetan Buddhism. If you are looking to learn more about the Tibetan way, this is a really good book to start with. I personally don't practice Tibetan Buddhism, but I respect the tradition and like what many of it's teachers have got to say. So get the book, it's beyond doubt worth the read.

A superb book incorporating a great deal of practical tips
This is a superb book which focuses on a much neglected area of primary and secondary prevention. Nonetheless, the book contains a great deal of practical tips for couple therapists irrispective of their theoretical approaches in the area. It is the first book which clearly assembled the most innovative contributors, not only in the area of prevention but also in the field of couple therapy from John Gottman and David Olson to Lori Gordon and Harville Hendrix. It is particularly refershing that the editors have chosen some of the most creative theoriticians, researchers and clinicians in the field. However, their contibution is particularly imporatant as they have also provided a brilliant compartive analysis between the different approaches as well as an interesting and challanging clinical case for which all contributors applied their strategies. Thus, the contributors have cleverly given us a "one-way mirror" in which to observe these prominent clinicians. Furthermore, they have supplied the most up-to-date research summary in the field. I find this book to be extermely helpful for me as a clinicain as well as for my graduate students and highly recommend it to all couple & family therapists.
