This book is so well-written it is a joy to read. It's like a visit to the most understanding physician you've ever had an appontment with. I highly recommend it to any person who ha been suffering and han't been able to get help from their doctor.

This is a book that reviews all the essentials about the psychology of living in space. This is particularly important as we are now on a "fast track" to get to Mars with humans, I hope in my lifetime. This adventure will be extremely dangerous not only from the physical hardships but also because of the mental risks.

The authots have reviewed everything that is known about the field, especially what has been learned from Space Station and other experiments in isolated settings. It is readable, especially the last chapter, where the Mars material comes up as the practical problem to solve. Yet, this book is scientific and has all the references needed for more technical research.

All in all I found this a fascinating read.

Dr. Pathak did a wonderful job of explaining the various aspects involved in Spasmodic Torticollis and its clinical course. By using actual clinical experiences the author succeeded both in providing a thorough discussion of the disorder, while also adding interest to a somewhat obscure topic. This book should be mandatory reading for those involved in the care and treatment of those afflicted with Spasmodic Torticollis.

Great precis of the techniques. Not meant to replace a more authoritative tome. Simply a how to manual. A must for all spine surgeon's and all spine wannabes.

Twerski has a very interesting background and training. He was a son of a rabbi, but went to medical school instead and now runs a substance abuse center. This makes him very qualified to talk on the subject of spirituality in recovery, which he does brilliantly in The Spiritual Self. A short book, I consider it a must read for anyone in a 12-step spiritual recovery program (as I am). We always wonder what people mean by saying 'I want to get more spiritual'. Well, the answer is explained eloquently and simply in Twerski's book.

I like the line were they go in the house and the kid said "Will it's up to us." I really like the basset hound that's dead. I woud read it in the dark at night because you can get scared and that's what makes it fun.

Dr. Weisse, a cardiologist and professor of medicine, shares some of his wit and wisdom in this fine little collection of essays on subjects ranging from the Chinese Restaurant Syndrome, the advantages and disadvantages of being short ("vertically challenged"), and advice on getting into medical school, to the silliness of politically-correct language, and some peeks into some odd corners of medical history.
Some of Dr. Weisse's topics may be of more interest to his colleagues and students than to the general reader, but there is plenty of meat for anyone interested in meeting a congenial and original mind, and a writer as skilled and entertaining as any in your daily newspaper.

Dr. Hall's book is an excellent resource for families in crisis and for those just moving through a typical season of family life. Although "Solving Family Conflicts" is part of the subtitle, conflict resolution is just part of the rich information this book shares. It communicates tips, examples, strategies, explanations, and philosophies that any parents-on the brink or experiencing calm-can use.

As the mother of a 7-year-old daughter, I found the book highly practical. It offers much that can be applied today. For example, each chapter-with titles such as "The Need for Friends," "How to Recognize Your Ghosts," and "Expecting Excellence and Appreciating What You Get"-includes a section of suggestions for change. These suggestions are sensible; they're also sensitive to what parents can reasonably accomplish.

As a parent trying to do my best on many fronts, I also found the book inspiring and loving. Unlike many "parenting" books that focus on our children, this book focuses on parents and the complex, important roles they play in their families and in society. On each page, a compassionate, gentle voice comes through. A child psychiatrist, Dr. Hall gives vivid, often amusing examples from both his case files and his own experience as a parent.

Another outstanding aspect of the book is its discussion, in terms that lay readers can understand, of psychiatric problems that may affect families. It includes explanations of mental disorders such as depression and panic disorders, along with guidance on how to seek and evaluate professional help. Appendices offer additional information on mental health resources, ways of coping with abuse, and basic training in parenting skills.

The "Eight Steps to Solving Family Conflicts" of the book's subtitle are steps any family could benefit from taking. They begin with "Accept Responsibility to Lead Your Family's Journey to Health" and end with "Refuse to Give Up." For me, currently experiencing relative calm in my family, the most valuable step was "Create the Family Culture You Want"-with lots of strategies in sections called "Treasuring Your Child" and "Sharing Your Stories, Sharing Yourself." This step is one I can take now to minimize the inevitable storms ahead.

I highly recommend this practical, encouraging book to parents and the family-counseling professionals who serve them.

A unique and much needed resource for physicians at all stages of their careers. This book will also be helpful to anyone contemplating entering the medical profession. Dr. Hirsch succinctly presents for the reader a comprehensive guide to the many career options available to those with a medical degree. She provides a clear, analytical framework from which the reader can explore their own best "career fit" within the medical profession. Despite the crisis in clinical medicine today, Dr. Hirsch presents her message in a positive, constructive style.
