This is a fine book, and this updated version is well laid out, well written, very readable, and is useful for neurologists, neurosurgeons, other physicians, neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, and rehabilitation specialists.

Sincerely I want to say to all possible buyers of this book, that this is sincerely a book that gives you all there is to know in actual psychiatry, all the residents in the clinic I'm studying at share my oppinion about the book, and we beleive that this is near the most complete book of his kind.

this classic work is a must read for those interested in modern psychoanalysis. an unbelieveably thought provoking work. provides a clear discussion of modern analytic techniques, when to use them, and why they work. this book provides page after page of indispensable wisdom.

In it's second edition, the book divides into two essential overviews that are very "user friendly". The first part profiles a general clinical psychopharmacology which provides a well written and comprehensible neuroanatomy review, which is basic to the understanding of how psychotropic drugs work. The mental disorders are discussed which these drugs are used to treat, along with ECT, abuse dynamics and interventions.

The second section provides a complete drug profile for more than 100 psychotropics. Included in each profile are facts that exceed most common nursing medication books. The drug index is all encompassing and has index resource to furthur promote a handy reference source.

I know three of the medical doctors (All members of the Osler Society) who assembled these choice selections uttered and (mostly) penned by Sir William Osler . . who seems to have felt strongly on only one controversial subject = that men seldom did any worthwhile creative work after age 40 and would do well to be "chloroformed" at age 60. Sir William died at age 70. The term "Internal Medicine" was coined in German-speaking Europe during Sir William's post-graduate training years there and he established the definition of the "specialty" at Johns Hopkins. The "specialty" has now out-lived its usefulness but our reverence for the man who contributed more than any other to the art and science of patient care obviously is being passed along to many young men and women who choose to be REAL PHYSICIANS.

I am a professor of radiation biology at the Westfaelische Wilhelms-University in Muenster, Germany. German Television sent me an advanced copy of this book and asked for my evaluation of it. My opinion is that this book is a new great contribution to the scientific knowledge. The book is didactively very well organized. A must for every radiologist in the world. Gofman's results are in excellent agreement with the latest findings of scientists at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation in Hiroshima. They report in the October issue of Radiation Resaerch that in the exposed population deaths due to stroke and ischemic heart disease are significantly increased and dose related. Thus ionizing radiation is not only inducing cancer and mutations but also non malignant diseases like stroke, heart, digestive and respiratory diseases, just as Gofman's results indicate.

We checked this book out from the library and liked it so much that now we're purchasing it. It is a charming story about an inflatable raft that falls off a truck; children, ducks, and water creatures play with it before it is restored to its rightful owner. The illustrations of Maryland's Eastern Shore are quite delightful.

As a journalist and author, I recently found myself referring to Dr. MacDonald's book for a very complex tale of rape and murder. His grasp of rape issues, their underpinnings and their ultimate effects is eloquently stated and well organized in this text. His experience in forensic psychiatry, supplemented by his advisory work for the Denver Police Department and consultation status for the courts, is a valuable resource.
