The Washington Manual of OphthalmologyThe essential guide for the resident ophthalmologist or ophthalmologist who wants all the essential information of ophthalmology in one small paperback. This is like having the entire BCSC series in one small book--but even better because only the essential facts are presented. This book is very well organized and finding information quickly is very easy. All the information is very up-to-date as well. No library is complete without this essential text.

Excellent for primary care providersI got this book by mistake, but on reading over it, I realized it is excellent. Most primary care providers have woefully little training and experience in common musculoskeletal disorders and there is much here that is not only interesting, but very helpful. If nothing else, reading it over and keeping it for a reference greatly increases one's awareness of musculoskeletal problems and how they are handled. Great for talking over cases with orthopedists. I had to learn most of this the hard way. Having had this long ago would have made my practice so much easier.

bones be goodwhen Eva Snead researches a topic she does it thoroughly. this work is a comprehensive examination of BOTH convential/ allopathic and alternative/ natural approaches to prevention and treatment.Unlike many other authors of wholistic bent she gives credit to orthodox physicians and scientists when due and she also challenges some accepted 90's "natural" hype when it isn't backed up by good research or might pose a risk for the consumer. It is a very technical disussion but just when it might get too dry eva provides some witism for which she is famous. And she always makes sure to translate medicalese into laymans language for the reader's benefit. There is a wonderful explanation of chelation therapy, another of cellular electron bond/ionization/free radical theory. She handles diet and other environmental contributors to bone health. 27 pages of references from peer review publications and a terrific glossary of 15 pages. And an encouraging summary that explains that this scourge of osteoporosis is not just treatable but even reversible.

Outlines in Pathology
Published in Paperback by W B Saunders (February, 1996)
Amazon base price: $44.00

The best summary of pathologyThis book is a concise summary of the features of almost all pathologic entities. The first 35 pages deal with clinical pathology and basic science, summarizing in this short space what Robbins takes 600 pages to explain. The remainder of the text is devoted to anatomic pathology (including hematopathology) and is a great reference next to the microscope. The only problem is that there are no pictures.

Ovarian Cancer: Controversies in ManagementAfter having been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 1999, I was anxious to obtain a copy. This book, I believe, is a must read for those newly diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. While I had done a lot of research on my own and of course received advice from my Oncologists, I felt that this book put everything into perspective. It helped me to understand the basis of my Oncologists' recommendations. The contributors to the book are all leading international Gynecologic/Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists - all those whose main interests lie in Ovarian/Gynecologic cancers. As medical technology and new information resulting from clinical trials become available, it would be helpful to have a Second Edition update sometime in the not so distant future.
