Healing, Intention and Energy Medicine
Jonas et al.'s Healing, Intention and Energy Medicine is a compendium of research from a conference on Science and Spirituality held in 2000 at which I was a presenter. As the author of chapter 14 (I do not receive royalties), I am as impressed with the final form of the conference presentations as I was with the researchers and conference in general. The public at large is generally unaware that healing and intentionality has been the subject of laboratory investigations for over three decades. From the initial forays of Dr. Bernard Grad and (healer) Oskar Estabany in examining the influence of human consciousness/energy on animals and plants to the sophisticated experimentation of mental intention on equipment by Radin, Jahn & Dunne and others, Healing, ntention and Energy Medicine is a fascinating odyssey into the study of nonordinary healing and untapped human potentials well worth the exploration.
Jonas et al. have done justice to this body of work, presenting it in a clear, readable and entrancing form.

An excellent, straightforward reference
Compiled and written by Senior Aviation Medical Examiner Paul M. Gahlinger, Health For Pilots is a complete and practical 265-page guide to FAA medical certification and self-care for those seeking to become (or remain) aviation pilots. Individual chapters address the physical requirements of the FAA medical exam, offers an extensive listing of potentially disqualifying conditions, instructions for getting a SODA (statement of demonstrated ability) to counter a disqualification, describes the ins and outs of drug testing programs, and much, much more. Health For Pilots is an excellent, straightforward reference and resource which should be a core part of any personal, professional, or academic Aviation Studies reference collection or reading list.

A Roadmap to Healthcare in the 21st Century
Healthcare in the United States has become schizophrenic: there is a disconnect between consumers (who want the best possible care, right away) and those paying for insurance coverage (faced with staggering increases in cost). Because of his background in both medicine and business (he has both MD and MBA degrees), Doctor David Friend understands healthcare from both of these perspectives. "Healthcare.com" describes, in nontechnical terms, how we've gotten into the current untenable situation, why it must change, and how technology and the internet may "save the day."

In the 1960's, when costs were relatively low and insurance paid for everything, the laws of supply and demand resulted in what Doctor Friend terms "Wastecare," using a "sledgehammer when a flyswatter would do." In the late 80's and early 90's, as costs began to skyrocket, payers began to cut back. Insisting on getting more for their money, they pressured hospitals and doctors to provide "Hollowcare" which was the "driving force that sent patients home from hospitals before they were ready." Ultimately, Doctor Friend believes we need to achieve "Efficientcare" where costs are minimized not by reducing services but rather by increasing productivity. This can be achieved, by streamlining the processes of data acquisition, and implementation of treatments, giving physicians more time to synthesize information and deal with patients. It is here that the internet plays a key role by decreasing the constraints of time and space: Rather than being constrained to a paper chart, patient data become readily available from any computer on the planet, while X-rays taken in Atlanta can now be interpreted instantaneously in Anchorage or Antwerp.

This book is an excellent roadmap and should be required reading for corporate benefits officers and public officials who are involved in making health care policy decisions (for their companies or for recipients of medicare / medicaid). It is also a must-read for health care consumers and providers who will ultimately be affected by the inevitable changes in healthcare delivery.

A genuine book that speaks to the everyday person...
I found this book to be not only knowledgeable about the possible y2k problems, but more importantly, about how mine and my families health may be impacted. The Authur writes as if he is speaking to any average person with compassion and medical expertise.

I also loved the section about prayer and how faith will be involved, and its meaning and relationship to y2k.

This is a genuinely written book which provides not only the spiritual perpectives of coping with y2k, but with specific preparations for our everyday health needs in an easy to use "work book".

Thanks for making this wonderful and practical book available!!!

Not just for people who have heart disease
This book provides an easy-to-understand explanation about how the heart works, what problems can arise, and how to keep your heart healthy. The information on diet and exercise was the best I've seen ... good preventative information.

Perfect for the young cardiac physiologist
This book is perfect for the young cardiac physiologist. My interests are concentrated on the metabolism of the heart and while the Author has spent many years of research on glucose metabolism this book gives an excellent broad based understanding on heart physiology. It is considered the "bible" in the lab I work in. Well recommended to undergraduate as well as postgraduate students looking for clear explanations on different concepts and theories regarding the heart.

Little Bill wants to play second base on the baseball team
Little Bill has no problems with boys and girls playing together on a baseball team until a new girl shows up and wants to play HIS position (which would be second base). Of course, it is not just that Simone wants to play second base or that she is taller than Little Bill, but more that she hits the ball into the next state, runs as fast as a superhero about to take off flying, and can also catch and throw the ball. Little Bill goes home and complains to his parents. His father says that he never lost a position to a girl in any sport, but his mother points out that boys would never let girls play way back then. However, it is Alice the Great who points out that Little Bill is thinking more about himself than about his team.

The team also has another problem, in that they have not decided on a name for their team. The girls want to be called the Dandelions (just try to get rid of them) but the boys want a tough name like the Warriors. Of course, the title of Bill Cosby's "Hooray for the Dandelion Warriors!" sort of gives away how that one gets resolved, but that it not as big of a concern as Little Bill's problem with his competition with Simone, although both speak go a "gender gap" among the friends. In his letter to parents at the start of the book, child psychiatry specialist Dr. Alvin F. Poussaint explains why traditionally boys are encouraged to be active in sports, which explains why they might assume that they would naturally be better than girls at games like baseball. He also explains why what happens in this story is a good lesson for Little Bill and other boys to learn.

In addition to Little Bill's great-grandmother, Alice the Great, the other person who shows they know waht the right thing is in this situation happens to be the coach of Little Bill's baseball team. When it comes to what position everybody will be playing and what the name of the team will be, the coach shows that he knows what is important. If Little Bill and his teammates do not understand that yet, then their coach will teach them so that they understand how a team plays like a team. These Little Bill Books for Beginning Readers by the beloved comedian Bill Cosby and illustrator Varnette P. Honeywood all focus on not only the value of friendships and family relationships but also encourage young children to solve their problems in creative and fair ways.

Great book for the clueless
Karlis Ullis, M.D. is one of a few number of doctors who really understand this subject. I can say this as a patient who has had problems with other doctors who were not up on hormone replacement. This new book is ideal for someone who wants to know how to get started and wants factual information, not BS. The book is written in simple, understandable language, doesn't make a bunch of ridiculous promises and puts the onus of progress on to the individual where it belongs. However it also provides the information on how to do it. Highly recommended!
