THE fracture care referenceFelt by many to be the Gold standard in orthopedic fracture care. The text is comprehensive, providing in-depth literature reviews and the authors prefered method of treatment. The text formatting style makes it difficult to quickly/easily obtain the "need to know" information regarding a particular topic. Overall, well worth it.

If you don't fit in the mold of mainstream church society...This book tells you how to get back in touch with God. If you aren't sure who God is, read this book and start from scratch! This book will help you if you are trying to find the God who is Love Itself. If you feel judged by the present church community, this book will help you remember what really matters about religion: that God is a fool for love, an insanely generous giver of second chances (and third and fourth, etc.)If you feel you are missing your link to the source of your true self, read this, and you will find yourself on your way home.

The POWER of Humor makes for POWERFUL readingI came to Dr. Kuhn's book with reservations, prepared to read another self-help book where the author tells me how to be a better version of myself (perhaps more like him or her). The reality of the experience of reading this book proved to be unique and powerful. Dr. Kuhn insists that we already hold within us an enormous capacity for joy and healing and his arguement for unleashing this capacity is convincing and timely. He believes that our potential for joy is directly linked to our relationship with our own unique sense of humor. Unleashing the "humor being" within you enables you to more fully, without guilt or worry, experience the joy which constantly surrounds you. Dr. Kuhn not only gives us permission, but insists that we explore the terrain of our own humor history and indulge in the unique coping mechanism of laughter. Everything from a smile to a titter to a belly laugh is fair game, each bringing abundant health benefits. Dr. Kuhn shares personal stories of his own explorations with humor and shares humor's role in his own childhood (his father was instrumental in helping him create and nurture his own sense of humor), his work (working with critically ill patients, their families and with chronic pain patients), and his family (humor was the best and most acceptable way his children dealt with him as an alcoholic father). Dr. Kuhn is brutally honest in passages which brought me to tears and made me laugh out loud. In my work with Alzheimer's patients, humor is a valuable tool for improving the quality of both their lives and mine. This book has become a resource for care providers, family members and friends. If you've ever wondered when it's okay to laugh, Dr. Kuhn can answer that question. In the most dire of circumstances, there is joy to be experienced. Dr. Kuhn not only gives you permission to do so, but provides you with the tools you need to reconnect with your unique "humor being."

Excellent introduction to pediatric radiologyThis is a well-written text that is easily readable during your first pediatric radiology rotation (slightly bigger than Helm's pink book). It's clearly targeted at radiology residents, since the author includes short explanations and tips on performing common fluoro procedures and anticipates questions most residents have when first starting peds. Given its size and cost, some compromises with the book were made (I would like to see more pictures and diagrams), but the ones in the book are generally of excellent quality. Pertinent films are discreetly labelled to illustrate major findings, a major benefit to newer residents. The topics are discussed clearly and succintly, with the most relevant facts of each topic included. Given it's size it's not overly comprehensive, but this is probably a plus for most residents frustrated by larger texts that drone on about one topic or focus on obscure topics that are unlikely to be helpful early in their training. This book is much better than two larger and more expensive texts I have looked at, the Peds Requisites and the Essentials of Peds Radiology.

Growing up PainfullyScott Peck has given us much to think about in terms of self responsibility. This audio tape is a wonderful example of Peck's ability to help us see our humanity and responsibility for our lives. It leans towards a Christian world view, but it still can reach a diverse audience. If you are looking for a glimpse of myths vs fairytales, and how to glean wisdom from traditional spiritual texts, then this is the tape for you. My experience of sharing this audio with several groups has been very successful.

Game GourmetDr. McKell gave my boss this book. I thumbed thru it and kept saying to myself "I have always wanted to know how to cook this". This is the first cookbook that is fun to read. The little tidbits of info by each recipe make this book special. You feel like you're there with Dr. Mckell and his wife Jackie. Everyone that sees my cookbook has to have a copy. You must have one too.

Great!A wonderful, relaxing, feel-good book. Each new page brings a new lesson or surpirse. A must for a gardner!
"The Fountain of Highlandtown" is a wonderful, magical first collection of short stories by long-time Baltimore Sun reporter and feature writer Rafael Alvarez. Most of the stories are set in the Greektown/Highlandtown area of Baltimore, and beautifully evoke the spirit of the diverse immigrant cultures--Greek, Spanish, Ukranian, Polish, Italian, and . . . well, spin the globe--that thrived there in the first half of this century, and still hang on amidst creeping urban decay. As William Faulkner did with Yoknapatawpha County (his fictionalized Oxford, Mississippi), Alvarez is excruciatingly faithful to the earth-bound details and cadences of this strange corner of Baltimore, which he calls his "Holy Land." But, also as in Faulkner, the stories of these characters and their lives transcend mere nostalgia and "local color" and speak to some of the great themes of literature: the amazing grace at work when love and the human heart is found, lost, betrayed, redeemed.
