The Fells Point History - Baltimore's Historic Port
Norman G. Rukert, the late and great Baltimore historian and business leader, has revealed a great chapter in Baltimore's and the America's history of commerical and naval exploits. His indepth research opened my eyes to Baltimore's role in creating the young American navy. This book also reveals how Baltimore became to be a flourishing city due to its position as "The Gateway to the South". If one wishes to study the history of Baltimore or the history of seafaring/privateers...I can recommend no other book than this.

This book is even better than Griffith's 5 minute clinical
My endocrine teacher religiously used this book to lecture out of. It has ICD9-CM codes, algorithms, a concise 1 page summary on specific diseases, when to give specific immunizations, explains lab tests, and has some beautiful plates on dermatological lesions. Excellent invaluable resource that every medical or P.A. student should have!!!

A thoroughly delightful new mystery series
Anne Arundel County, Maryland is not a place where one would expect female real estate agents to take a self defense course for their own personal protection. However, someone has threatened many of the woman and one has been found brutally murdered while showing a prospective client an exclusive home.

Eve Elliott works as an agent in her elderly aunt's real estate office. While starting to develop a thriving business, Eve still has doubts that selling houses is what she wants to do for the rest of her life. Even with a handsome lover, Eve wonders if she should quit and return to the Big Apple where she once was a rising advertising guru. However, a second killing occurs of a colleague in which Eve finds the body. Eve knows that if she decides to stay, she needs to uncover the identity of the killer.

FINAL CLOSING is the second entry in the brilliantly written Eve Elliot series. Like the first novel (DEATH IN STILL WATERS), this book is a marvelous murder mystery due to a scintillating who-done-it populated by an intriguing cast, especially Eve. Barbara Lee is rapidly rising to the top of the sub-genre as readers will want more Eve Elliott novels.

If only I had had this from the 1st day of Med School!
There are plenty of Step 1 resources out there, and this book can't replace things like a good old Kaplan review course, BUT...
This was the most useful book I found to help me review for the exam. Upon reading it, I realized that it would have been SOOOO helpful in my courses to just give me a short, clear overview of all the truly important concepts that I needed to understand in each subject (something my courses were unable to clearly outline!)

It is arranged by course, eg Pathology, Biochem, Microbio, Physio, Pharm, etc. It provides plenty of helpful mnemonics. This is not really something that you read cover to cover. If you're looking for something to review by systems, then Step-Up (by Mehta) is a great book. It's arranged by renal, cardiovascular, etc.

First Aid was recommended to me by every last one of my upperclassmen. It has a great collection of high-yield glossy path photos that you should be familiar with, and it ends with reviews of many other useful books you may need for the 1st two years of med school.

If you don't have it yet, you should get it.

An inclusive reference, very well done
This is a quite inclusive book of Chesapeake Bay fish. Many Atlantic species that stray into the mouth of the Bay are also included. Excellent scientific drawings, many color plates, good concise text. It is geared towards reference (not a Sunday read). Very well done.

Forensic Pathology
Published in Hardcover by Arnold (18 April, 1991)
Author: Bernard Knight MD(Wales) MRCP(UK) FRCPath DMJ(Path)
Amazon base price: $

The most practical and comprehensive text in the subject
Knight's "Forensic Pathology" (2nd ed) is now the standard text in the subject in English. Popular in Europe, USA and Australasia, it has now become the "Bible" of forensic medicine elsewhere, especially Japan. Based on forty-three years of hands'on experience, it is notable for its practicality and caution in avoiding over-interpretation, the primary sin of many pathologists.

Give people with mental illness a chance to live
The purpose of the club is that there is no purpose. What? Yes, there are places, 250 clubs throughout the world, where persons with a mental illness can go where "we" can change from professional patients to human beings. Thats a tall order. I want to go somewhere where I do not have to suffer someones good intentions for me. So caretakers should not have good intentions? God forbid. In the clubhouses the members (ex-mental patients) do not need to be tinkered with. We need to be given a chance to experience choice. I work in the club and when I feel ready to work for pay, the club offers the oppurtunity. I can work outside for the same wage as my normal co-workers. These jobs are four hours a day for six months. With several of these I will have a resume and now the chance to work on my own becomes real. I do not attend work readiness classes, nor budgeting classes but I am immersed right on the job. I learn from my experiences. These are different from being on the expensive back wards of a mental institution.
