Excellent review of otolaryngology, many quick read chapters with tons of facts!

This text offers a great introductory understanding of epi principles and processes. A must have for students or those with academic expectations for future growth. The statistical analysis are well explained and integrated into the patterns of epi.

This book is a fine example of a comprehensive work that gracefully introduces the reader to the basics of clinical allergy. Begining with the immunological background and a description of allergens, and ending with the common atopic disorders of the G-I-tract, skin, eye, nose, lungs, and systemic reactions. Each chapters summarizesthe key points in the following text. The language is strict, and the text is well supported by different types of illustrations (photos, drawings, , diagrams, textboxes etc). I find this book useful in many different contexts: medical students, general practitioners, internal medicine, or other who need a basic introducion to allergology. As a conclusion I can state that these 420 pages gave me more, than 1000 other pages in textbooks and papers did.

Famous and well known book in hematology. discusses important diseases in a comprehensive yet not boring way. can be used as a reference for undergraduates. includes nice chapters on hemoglobinopathies, myeloprolifrative diseases and others. medium size book.

Medical genetics is a difficult discipline in medicine. So many factuals, rules, syndromes and malformations which will make you dizzy. Professor Connor transforms all these difficulties into a concise textbook suitable for both study and reference. Medical graduates can find medical genetics a more approachable science. Strongly recommend for all medical graduates in addition to specialists.

As a residency program director in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, I found this manuscipt a useful instructional tool. This book would be especially valuable for first year physiatry trainees or for other residents who cover rehabilitation services while oncall.

Excellent, comprehensive primer on the intricacies of managed care. Covers all the major topics, including delivery systems, public and private sector forms of managed care, regulatory and legal issues, medical management, information systems, and operational issues. Thoughtfully done by Dr. Peter R. Kongstvedt and contributors.

Concise, accurate information and good supporting bibliography. Plenty of illustrations and informative tables. Appendix on recommended protocols is very helpful. Radiation safety guidelines for pregnant females and breastfeeding mothers is essential.

Most people with experience of surgery textbooks aimed at students would agree that writing such a book seems to be an extremely difficult task. It is appears very hard for the authors to know at what level to pitch the information - should details of practical procedures be included? What about the basic science? What about history taking and clinical examination? None of the books seem to get the formula quite right and students dip into their meagre bank accounts in order to buy slightly inadequate texts. It will come as a surprise, then, to find that there is a book which makes it all look easy. Essentials of Surgery has the formula cracked. It almost exudes authority and relaxes in the knowledge that it is delivering exactly what is required. The first half of the book deals with the basic science behind surgical diseases, from cellular biology right through to transplant immunology. The reader's journey through the book is clearly sign-posted at all times and the copious diagrams and tables ensure that even the most complex arguments are rendered rational and lucid. The second part of the book deals with surgical practice and is divided according to body systems. Each section begins with the anatomy, physiology and embryology of the system in question and follows with diseases of that system. At all times, the reader is introduced to the clinical features, diagnosis, investigations and management of each disease. There are even brief descriptions of the surgical procedures enabling the student to impress their consultant and know what is happening when they see the operation in theatre. Despite the monochrome diagrams, this is not the cheapest of books available to students and certainly would not fit into the beloved white coat pocket but when the "information delivered versus cost" equation is considered, there can be no doubt that Essentials of Surgery comes out very much on top. Admittedly, this book may not be everyone's cup of tea and there are many books that deliver less information in a slightly more edible form. However, I believe that any medical student who is serious about learning surgery would be foolish to buy any other text.
