The BEST WLS Book!!
I have read this book several times and it is the only book on this subject that you will need. I have read the others but this book has EVERYTHING you will need to know INCLUDING how to select a surgeon, and even how to get approval for your surgery. A MUST HAVE ITEM IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING WLS.

The Dr. Spock of Weight Loss Surgery
I depended on Dr. Flancbaum before and after my weight loss surgery in the same way that I depended upon Dr. Spock when my children were small. His book became a dog earred companion on my nightstand--well read and well loved. I would recommend it to anyone considering this surgery!

Comprehensive guide that covers a lot of ground
If you are considering WLS and need to compare operations and get a basic overview, then this is the book for you. It covers pre-surgery questions as well as post-op concerns. I would recommend giving this book to your surgeon or primary care physician to inform them of the surgery. I work as a library assistant and recommend this book to my patrons. It has been the only book I have found that gives good basic coverage of the subject.

Wow!!! Must-Read for Achieving Happiness!!!
My mentor/life coach recommended this book, and I could not put this book down once I started reading. Dr. Baer explains in plain language, with no b.s., what we are doing wrong and what has to be done to give and receive REAL LOVE so we could be truly happy. With the work I have been doing with my life coach (you can find her on amazon.com - catherine diane - and learn more about her if you are interested in having an amazing, VERY EFFECTIVE, very loving life coach yourself), I am truly getting the benefits out of this book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Should be the handbook for life.
I can only think of one way of describing this book and it may not be the most eloquent. Reading it felt like having a very satisfying bowel movement after being severely constipated for years. Freud would, no doubt, conclude that I've been stuck at the anal stage, but this book is a miracle in print. It is beautifully written, straight forward, and a precious gift for any sagging soul. If I had only one book to read for the rest of my life, this one would be it.

Allowing in the light
This book ends up better than it starts out and it starts out well. I have seen it change the lives of people I know and I am buying them and giving them away as fast as I can afford to. The principles explained are easy to understand, but more difficult to apply. However the rewards of application are worth every effort. Telling the truth about ourselves as Dr. Baer teachers allows the light to come into our hearts freeing us from darkness and self deceit.

A Doctor's Best Friend
Dr. Silver's book is considered the bible for patients with heart failure, just ask anyone who has it. And "Success With Heart Failure" should be on the bookshelf of every heart failure patient. What people don't realize is that this book is a doctor's best ally because it teaches patients exactly what they need to know - otherwise impossible to squeeze into an office visit. As a cardiologist, I recommend this book to all my patients so that I can be sure they understand how to make sure their life is as enjoyable as it always has been.

The Best Purchase of My Life
I was recently diagnosed with CHF & someone online recommended this book. I got it yesterday and I have read it. This book will become my companion. There is so much info here. If you feel like there is no hope buy this book and I am sure the quality of your life will encrease. Dr Silver is very knowledgeable on CHF. If all Drs. talked to their patients like Dr Silver does in this book we would all live healthier lives.

A Must-Have For CHF Patients & Their Families
My husband was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure recently. Although we haven't had the book for very long, it has already made an impact! In addition to the great writing, it also has plenty of specific tips, treatments (even experimental ones), and even questions to ask your doctor. We'll probably even bring the book with us to his next appointment. While physical health is a focus, Dr. Silver also addresses the mental health of a patient and his/her family by discussing issues with anger and depression that sometimes follow a diagnosis of CHF.

the definitive book on doo wop
The authors of this book both turned out to be Ph.D's, so that pretty much dispels the notion that rock n' roll was supposed to rot your brain. They share a love for old rythem and blues group harmony, and it shows. The book explains the origins and influences of doo wop (odd that the term 'doo wop' wasn't invented when this music was current). It goes into styles and typologies of doo wop, with critical appraisals. Excellent, hard-to-find photos too. The last third of the book lists exhaustive overall and group discographies. I've searched for years for books on doo wop and this one's the best.

Great doo wop resource!!
This guide is a godsend for anyone interetsed in doo wop,
info on the groups, a lot of history, and lists of the records we love. It's informative, and will bring back many memories
as you read. There are many key sections, and you can read
about the teenage groups like Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers
to the Flamingoes and others. The book answers questions like "how did it happen" and takes you across the country,
to DJs, and trends. You will keep going back for new discovies.
I recommend this book highly.

The Doo Wop Bible
Get it. Very well done book. It just about have anythimg you want to know except for the kitchen sink, but who cares for the kitchen sink this is Doo Wop.

THE BEST!!!
This is by far the best book on respiratory care. No other book comes even close even though there is a major mistake in this new 8th edition: in the disease section, Tuberculosis is missing (editors/publisher mistake?) even though it is placed as one of the chapters in the contents sections. Huge mistake, but still the best book. There is also quite a few mistakes in referencing as the Respiratory Care journal and Clinics in Respiratory Care have been mixed up often, but that is the least of my concernes as I hardly ever follow references. This book is In full color, has great section on ventilatory support, respiratory anatomy and physiology is superb, blood gases also, sleep studies, basically everything. Could have made bronchoscopy more detailed, but I gueass the book will be too big. I personally would like to see next 9th ed. this to be expanded even more and for the Mosby respiratory care equipment book by Cairo to be encoorporated into Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. This book can be of use for all that need to learn or be familiar with respiratory care.

newer edition
A new 8th edition has been published. But this is definately the Bible of Respiratory Care.

Excellent
This is the "Bible of Respiratory Therapy" as once said by my professor. It's a great learning tool that should be used at all colleges offering the respiratory program. I'll always keep this book around no matter what.

Empowering and Respectful
This book offers the reader a factual, non-biased compilation of available complementary therapies. As a cancer survivor, she teaches us that when facing a cancer diagnosis and standard allopathic therapies, we can, no we must, be an active participant in assessing all the possible treatment paths as we make our decisions and choices in our path to healing. Not only do we hope to understand what is happening to us, we must take an active role in regaining our good health.

Ms. O'Toole teaches us that we must trust our selves and our abilities in this process. For when we do, we make the best possible decisions for our lives. This book is a wonderful guide for those facing treatment as well as their loved ones.

a gift
This book is such a gift, written with authority, clarity, and empathy. For anyone who wonders what to expect from different complementary therapies, this book is invaluable. For those facing decisions about maintaining health while fighting cancer, this book is a blessing. The author transforms her struggle to stay alive and maintain well-being into a resource for the rest of us.

Solid, well researched, and from the heart--indispensible!
As a bodywork practitioner presented with the dilemma of offering help and services to clients confronted with the trial of their lives, I had high expectations of this book. I wasn't disappointed. This book is solid, well researched, and substantive. I will recommend it without reservation to my clients. Not just clients facing cancer, but any client troubled by a chronic or acute physical condition or discomfort who seeks resources to improve their health and well-being. This takes effort, education, information, and resources. What this book offers is a structure and framework to evaluate "what's out there", and help a person to decide "Is this for me?" "Is this for me now, or later?"

What I especially appreciate is the author's emphasis on trusting your own intuition---and backing that up with succinct, well-organized information to facilitate rational decision-making in support of one's intuition. This book isn't just another nice book about a cancer experience; it's a well thought out resource to think through and make decisions on developing your complementary health care. Thank you, Carole O'Toole!

The Shaman's Bulldog
If you love English Bulldogs and believe that they are superiorly intellegent along with being emotionally in touch with their owners, then this book is a must read for you. I laughed at the funny capers of Faccia Bello that reminded me of my own bulldog. It also made myself and my bulldog's "daddy" cry at the emotionally compelling story of love and the reality of the loss of a dear companion and friend.

My entire perspective on dogs has been altered.
I cannot look into my dog's face the same way anymore-I can't watch her sleep the same way-my entire perspective on dogs has been altered. I cried from Chapter 3 to the last page.

Carlos Castaneda meets Lassie.
This book in in the genre of Carlos Castaneda meets Lassie. Which is a catagory of books not yet written. Wonderful.

Facing Your Fears
_Fear is sometimes a positive force. In moderation, it can motivate people. Realistic fear of complications can strengthen your resolve to take the best possible care of yourself...The key to making your fears work for you..is to keep reminding yourself of the positive. The power to control blood sugars...improves everyday_. (p217)

Two months ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes. Since then, THE JOHNS HOPKINS GUIDE TO DIABETES has been my handbook and I feel fortunate that Christopher D. Saudek, M.D. and his staff have developed such a valuable tool. It is extremely easy to use, yet covers completely the topics associated with successful living with diabetes.

The Preface states, _This book grew out of our experiences in caring for people with diabetes, particularly at the self-managment program of the Johns Hopkins Diabetes Center. Much that we discuss in this book is drawn from the material used in our teaching sessions -- and indeed, from the material taught by diabetes educators throughout the country_.

I appreciate the self-management program promoted in this text. _A central theme of this book is that [I] can live a long and healthy life with diabetes, but it is a dangerous disease to ignore_. (p4) I learned that the diagnosis of diabetes is objective and ammoral, based solely on the level of glucose in the blood. Knowing that it really does not matter how my blood glucose levels got to be the way they were helped me to accept that something needed to be done to control them. I was able to adjust to daily life with diabetes, learning that I can in fact cope with it.

Understanding Diabetes is the first part of this book and the first part of successfully controlling this disease. The bulk of this book is in the next part, Controlling Diabetes. Their approach to goal setting is representative of this book's healthy attitude:

_We are talking about redefining the quality of life. We admit to looking through rose-colored glasses, downplaying the things you can't do or eat that you used to love. There's no denying that some things ought to be avoided some of life's patterns ought to be adjusted. But none of this has to impair your quality of life. You have the choice. You define quality. You set the goals._ (p36)

If you are interested in controlling your blood glucose levels, this text can show you how.

There is a strong spiritual component that comes into play when changing behaviors. The task of accepting the realities of diabetes; turning from destructive behaviours and turning to life-affirming behaviours is at the crux of repentance. Moving from denial to acceptance requires an element of faith. Faith in the diagnosis, faith in the cure, and faith in ourselves that we are able to take up the task day after day with a fresh re-commitment. My experience with diabetes has strenghtened my own spiritual confidence. The hard won changes to my glucose levels has given me confidence that I will be able to control other parts of my life.

PEACE

Important information - helpfully organized
If diabetes has entered your life because of your own health or the health of a loved one you need to get a lot of information in order to control the disease as best as you can. This book is a GREAT place to start.

The book provides a good overview of what diabetes really is and why it is so destructive. But MUCH MORE important is the help it gives us in understanding how the disease impacts the way one lives. If the diabetes is responded to constructively the situation can be improved. Depending on the severity of the condition it can be improved a little bit to, in a mild case, something like normality. Most are somewhere in the middle.

The danger is to ignore the condition. This book can help make clear all the good things that can come from responding positively to the condition and gives helpful information on how to do that. And you can find specific information very quickly because the book is so thoughtfully organized.

All eye disorders and health issues are covered here
An excellent basic reference and a recommended pick for both public and school libraries, the large print edition of Dr. Christopher Saudek, et.al.'s Guide To Diabetes assures that audiences who need it will be able to read it. From handling psychological problems to dealing with daily maintenance routines, this is packed with practical information. The large print edition of Dr. Cassel's will reach a wide audience and will prove a listing contribution to libraries. All eye disorders and health issues are covered here, with treatment options and symptoms thoroughly surveyed in an easy-to-understand manner. Highly recommended.

The Trials of Angela (Wheeler Large Print Softcover Sreies)
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (September, 2002)
Author: Millie Criswell
Amazon base price: $23.95
Used price: $6.00
Average review score:

The Best Yet!
I have read other Millie Criswell novels (such as The Trouble with Mary and What to Do About Annie) but The Trials of Angela is by far my favorite! It has just enough of everything in it! The book is all about Angela DeNero, a lawyer who is working on a child custody case. John Franco is, you guessed it, another lawyer on the opposing side of this legal issue. This book is humorous, sensual, and a really fun book!

Great book!
I love this series, especially the fact that many of the unique characters carry forward into each book!

Angela is not having a good time! Her cheating ex-fiance left her to move to London with his new girlfriend, her strange parents have just moved back to town and she has to argue a case against annoying (but gorgeous) John Franco. John isn't having a swell time either. His grandmother keeps getting arrested, his family is mad at him for representing clients who are fighting against his own family and he has to argue a case against annoying (but gorgeous) Angela DeNero.

Needless to say, sparks fly, in all kind of ways! Don't know how many times I've woken my husband when laughing out loud through these books! I lend all the books of this series to friends and we pass them around. They always come back dog-eared and this won't be any exception! Millie Criswell has done it again!

What a treat
This was the best Millie Criswell novel I've ever read and I had a wonderful savoring each and every page. The characters are just so easy to love and Angela captured my heart from page one. She's definitely more than just a pretty face. Angela has it all but discovers a little surprise left from her previous relationship which ended on a pretty sour note and through it all it Angela perseveres one-step at a time. Her first encounter with fellow attorney John Franco sizzles from the moment they meet again. Little does Angela know but John has had a thing for her since their high school days and nothing -- and I mean nothing is gonna stand in his way to get her.
I believe you'll enjoy this novel as it's filled with romance and on top of several emotional upheavals along the way, Angela and John overcome it all. Having the characters back from the previous "Mary" and "Annie" stories is an additional pleasure. Anyway this is one novel deemed to knock your socks off cause once you pick it -- you won't be able to put it down. Enjoy!

Cum grano salis, a Valuable Compendium
Dr. Gerber comes across as an enthusiastic, articulate, knowledgeable, perceptive, open-minded, and well-intentioned guide to a host of subtle-energy therapies ranging from flower essences to radionics. This reviewer found of special value his discussions of Electroacupuncture According to Voll, experiments with healing hands and magnets, and the neurophysiology of kundalini. His characterization of homeopathy as an energy therapy certainly seems on target. He also sprinkles intriguing insights into the psychology of healing throughout his general exposition of the commonly argued theoretical framework of energy medicine.

So this book offers very readable, rich fare to scientists, medical practitioners, and ordinary people who want to learn about the entire field of energy medicine, including the underlying scientific and psychological theory and the interconnections among the various modalities.

However, four deviations from perfection must be noted. First, this is a monoglot and provincial book. Even though the author refers to healing practices around the world, he exhibits a strong tendency to favor the North American versions. The narrative shortchanges the major contributions of the Russians, although ironically Kirlian is termed a Russian instead of an Armenian.

Second, the science of biophotonics (chemiluminescence) and the well-documented practice of Biophotonic Therapy (Photoluminescence), the treatment of the blood by light, are central to an understanding of energy medicine. Yet the book simply doesn't discuss the findings in the extensive biophotonics and BT literatures.

Third, aside from an inadequate concluding chapter, the book is rather dated. Most of the references are to the literature of the 1970s and early 1980s, but plenty of interesting research has been done since then.

Fourth, the reader will want to take with an appropriately sized grain of salt Dr. Gerber's assertions regarding the proclivities of the healer caste of Atlantis, the validity of "channeled information" from psychics (a key source), reincarnation as a source of physical ailments, and the reality of various astral and higher spiritual life forms. Nonetheless, he deserves great credit for the effort and intelligence with which he has assembled and explained the therapies and theories of this fascinating and vitally important field.

LANDMARK WORK ON HEALING THERAPIES
Gerber provides a new scientific paradigm that strongly supports what spiritual healers have known for millennia. It explains this knowledge of the energy body in scientific terms that permits us to make a graceful transition from the Newtonian concept of health to the wholeness of the Einsteinian quantum worldview. As such it is a serious investigation of the etheric and a development of an etheric material science to balance the current physical material science. Based on the fact that the body consists of electrical vibrations, Gerber's theories act as a conceptual bridge between allopathic and subtle-energy medicine. It includes an exhaustive treatment of homeopathy, Bach Flower Remedies, acupuncture, crystal healing, electrotherapy, radiology, radionics and psychic healing. Chapters include: The Einsteinian View of Living Systems; X-Rays and the Beginning of Vibrational Medicine; Frequency and Subtle Planes of Matter; Subtle Energy Systems and their Relevance to Ancient Approaches to Healing; Modern Investigations into Psychic Healing; Healing Qualities of Gems and Stones; The Chakras; Holistic Healing and Paradigm Shifts; Recent Developments in Vibrational Medicine, including Healing with Sound, and Electromagnetic Healing Devices. Not only is this book a welcome new approach to modern healthcare, but at the same time a wonderful reference work on energy healing. It concludes with a glossary, recommended reading list, resource guide, list of diagrammes and an index.

The first good try to explain Esoteric Medicine
Dr Gerber, in a very easy and plain language, slowly introduces us to the fantastic world of vibrations, base structure of all matter. His book is a must for anyone dealing with vibration medicine, be it hand healing, dousing or any kind of acupuncture or Homeopathic medicine. He doesn't try to fool you, he tries with enormous patience and knowledge to explain the up to know unexplainable by way of the most recent knowledge of Quanta Theory and recent experiences. A big bravo for Dr. Gerber effort to try to take up to the front light and analyze based on the most recent science data, those up to know so bad named medicines.
