State of the Practice
The volume contains a timely and well balanced overview of the state of the practice in understanding and managing agricultural phosphorous. Particularly relevant are contributions addressing the saturation of soil sorbed phosphorous, and its implications for "threshold" behavior in P fate and transport for land application of animal waste. A current and useful over view and reference for current applied research.

Probably most meaningful book written on AIDS in 20 years
Is AIDS really caused by a virus such as HIV? This book cuts to the heart of why after 20 years we still have no cure or vaccine for AIDS. It is a brilllantly witten expose of what is really behind AIDS. It's well-documented and riviting. I recommend it highly. In a historical context Dr. Broxmeyer makes his argument and then some.

Heart Warming
This is a beautifully written book about the relationship between pediatrician and the families he sucours. It is written with an eye to entertaining the reader. Tsesis was able to capture the interesting stories touching on familial love, the importance of moral support and the joy of doing kindness to others. The language is flowing throughout, and it is clearly a work of lover on the part of the author.

I recomend this book to those persons who enjoyed James Harriot or Oliver Sacks. It is written with a similar humour and story telling.

A Great Recommendation
A friend recommended All Love Flows to the Self... Eternal Stories from the Upanishads. She and her teenage son were sharing some quality time reading one of the twelve stories every night, and they were enjoying both the story content and the feeling of settledness that resulted from reading uplifting, classic-style literature. The book jacket comments, "The timeless and universal wisdom expressed in these twelve stories reminds us of the natural flow of life towards its supreme goal." And a reviewer goes on to say, "The Upanishads are perhaps the greatest works of wisdom known to man." I was further enticed and purchased the book. Now, I read and reread a story and stop to savor a descriptive phrase, such as "...stars, scattered across the sky like a thousand sugar crystals." And I pause now and then and realize that these stories reflect some greater, spiritual truth in my own life. All Love Flows to the Self takes the reader to a deeper, refreshing level. I also appreciate the color photos that accompany the stories, the Sanskrit phrases, and the glossary that really make this book complete.

Worth the Wait, Worth the Price
Whenever residents and fellows would ask me which single hand surgery book to buy, I always told them to get Beasley's Hand Injuries even though it was published in 1981. Now, after more than two decades, Beasley has not only updated Hand Injuries, but also has written the most comprehensive single author volume currently available. It was well worth the wait.
Besides trauma, Beasley has added useful knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of other hand disorders. The book is a jewel box with many chapters being gems. The new chapter on tendon transfers clarifies, simplifies, and elegantly presents what is all too often a murky or boring subject for students of surgery. The chapter on surgical anatomy and color plates by Leon Dorn are worth the price of the book by themselves. Each chapter stands by itself so one can browse through the book picking and choosing that topic that the reader wishes to study.
In this era of homogenized multi-authored multi-volume surgical tomes it is refreshing to read this single authored text that gives the reader the benefit of Beasley's sound philosophy of treating hand patients as well as the wisdom that he has accumulated from his more than 40 years of teaching and clinical experience.

A great quick reference in Anesthesiology
This a great quick review, suitable for medical students interested in Anesthesiology, as well as Residents and House-officers. It offers clear, concise information and guidlines in an easy to use format. It will be most helpful for those in need of a quick reference of anesthesia protocols and procedures. It is not detailed enough to serve as a primary text, but is more than adequate for a quick review, or as a pocket refernce. I have found it to be the best pocket reference currently available and recommend it strongly. Its only weakness is that the section on pediatric Anesthesia could use an update, but it is valuable none the less.

Anesthesia: A Comprehensive Review
If you thought Faust's book made anesthesiology interesting, this one brings it to life. Between Faust's book and Hall's who needs anything else to pass the board exams. The Merck manual might be all you need to put all of medical knowledge in your briefcase.

Outstanding Non-fiction Memoir
I read this collection of interrelating stories straight through with fascination -- couldn't put it down! The author's stories, starting with Pearl Harbor, then weaving through his varied medical career both in and out of the military, on through and beyond Vietnam, are each a gem of objective journaling.

Being a military retiree, I thoroughly enjoyed re-living experiences recounted by the author, which in many ways parallel my own as a retired military officer. This is a book I highly recommend, both for its historical content over a critical 50 year period, the insight it offers regarding a physician's life, and, especially, for the entertainig style in which it is written.
