This manual dispels the stigma about mental health and explains the different problems and disorders in a friendly and cheerful way. It is interesting to see that substance abuse (alcohol and drugs) can lead to a variety of psychiatric disorders that can equally be cured once abstinence occurs. I think this is a very relevant read for any college student who is subjected to rites of passage and other unhealthy pressure from peers to drink and take drugs excessively. The other topics discussed are exceptionally well handled and provide clear instructions and advice for those seeking to help themselves and others.

This is a valuable guide to psychiatric diagnosis and treatment that is immensely helpful for patients and their families. It also provides a fascinating view of human nature for the general reader. The authors illustrate how each of the mental disorders is an exaggeration of normal tendencies that have gotten out of hand. This helps a person suffering from a mental illness to feel less strange, alone, and helpless. An uplifting book that changed the way I see the world and the people in it, including myself.

I ordered this along with the "Week by Week" selection by the same authors when we first found out we were pregnant. After about a few days of myhusband and I reading our seperate books, I found that he had more information than I did!

As an expecting dad (our baby should be with us within the next few weeks) I have been trying to learn as much as I can and shared readings with my wife on all things about the baby, but the truth is that, as men, we need some literature that will relate a bit more to us, and give us "tips" on how to better cope with this whole thing that's going on around us, for which most likely we've never been prepared. This is where this book comes in handy! From the same authors of the reputed book "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" (now in its fourth edition), came this one, meant to help expectant fathers "understand what a woman goes through during pregnancy and how [they] can help her deal with the things that are happening to her."

Opening up is a very useful table that breaks down topics (with page #s) into "The Good Part," "You May Want to Help Your Partner Deal With" and "Pay Attention to" by trimester, around labor and delivery, and finally at home with the baby (in a "What to expect when you're expecting" fashion, if you may). Also VERY useful are the abundance of DOs (Brownie Points) and DON'Ts (In The Doghouse) spread throughout the book, nicely going hand in hand with the topics covered in the pages where they pop up.

There is also a sort of glossary of terms for expecting couples, and then the book goes into topics that deal with the emotional, physical and financial aspects of pregnancy in enough detail to serve as a very good primer for most matters and purposes. Definitely not meant as an in-depth book on pregnancy, childbirth or raising your newborn child, this book does fulfill a purpose by providing expecting dads with an easy-to-read book that they can relate to, in order to get them up to speed with the basics about pregnancy, and -most importantly- to ensure that they are able to cope with their wives' needs as best as possible during pregnancy and thereafter.

Richard Rubin, et.al.'s 101 Tips For Coping With Diabetes covers everything from stress management and coping with vacations to handling emotional issues and illness. A question/answer format makes it easy to understand the basic issues of daily diabetes management, while the questions tackle many common obstacles which thwart diabetics.

This home medical guide is a complete rendition which
names diseases, disease processes, diagnostic approaches
and treatment options for practically every conceivable
ailment. The volume is easy to read and it is devoid
of too much medical jargon. There are many pictures depicting
the human anatomy, or portions thereof, in full color.
The approaches to describing the various disease processes
are modern. In addition, the work distinguishes between related
diseases and conditions. A beauty of the work is that it
describes how patients function given the most debilitating
medical conditions presented. For instance,
ankylosing spondylitis causes permanent disability in 1 in 20
patients wherein they lose the ability to do routine
tasks/functions. Basic medical terms are defined exhaustively.
The book is a worthy purchase as a desk reference for
a wide constituency of medical providers and the general
public. This is a worthy addition to your existing medicinal health library. It contains brand new protocols. As such,
I recommend purchasing this volume because it will help you
to formulate the various disease processes encountered into
precise medical language and diagnostic terminology.
Clearly, the volume has been researched thoroughly and it is
ready for general public use. Another feature of the work is
that the authors describe comparative costs for complex
surgeries so that consumers have a basis to compare prices.

There are few books that truly rank a 5 Star rating, and there are few books which come close to this one's significance in the history of modern psychological thought. Freud and Jung have been overrated and over-idolized, but as their contemporary RA deserves a much wider following -- and his work as the father of Pschyosynthesis has a much more integrative view of the deeper human psyche's recesses. This is both a treatise of fundamental ideas and a practical book for practioners of psychotherapy and psychiatry, as well as social work, education, and human sciences (sociology, history, anthropology, etc.). RA had none of the fears that many others had of seeming to be a kook - because he wasn't. This was a man whose personal life story (blind, etc.) stands as testimony to what he was capable of, and this book only reinforces the gorwing (buut still largely unheard view) that he will become on the most important dead-but-still-important psychological thinkers/doers in the coming decades.

This is by far the most used map for the entire Washington DC metro area. You won't need to bother with any others. You'll find exactly what you need from this map series.

This book is inspirational! The stories of how some children have overcome devastating circumstances are very well written and moving. The commentary offers insightful analysis, providing a good balance of dramatic stories and intelligent critique. I highly recommend this book for the general public, as well as mental health and youth workers. In these uncertain times, I found these stories particularly salient.

Struggling with my own aging, I found the book helpful in integrating my personal faith into the changes that are occuring while I grow older. I particularly enjoyed the many scripture references which he uses to back up his statements.
